“Small place in the old Sun Plaza shopping mall. Lots of bottles and a few taps. Interesting music being played. Prices are slightly high, but where else in Hirakata can you get this kind of selection?“

“Small joint in the fairly old "Food Street," under the tracks near Kuzuha Station (Keihan Line). Pretty sure that this section of restaurants was here before they built the mall next door. Despite the name, this is not really a beer bar. It is a restaurant featuring pork ribs cooked in several ways. The main beers featured are five Minoh mainstay bottled beers at Y780 a pop (Y880 for the W-IPA). A few taps with Bass Pale Ale, Guinness, and the like. Seats for 12 at tables and 12 at the counter. Fairly loud pop music on the sound system. Good service. Had a pretty good lunch here, and I might come back sometime to see what it's like at night. As KansaiBeerLvrs says below, there are few other options in this immediate area.“

“Small bar on the north side of Hirakata Station, it's the pricier, flashier and slightly more refined sister of Beer House Hobbit. A little bit hard to find, with only a small sign on the ground at the entrance. On the 4th floor, up a narrow circular staircase, Seats for about ten people. Six taps, with a decent variety of higher-end beer, including very recent releases (e.g., very fresh Saison Dupont Cuvée Dry Hopping). Somewhat pricey and small sizes, so you might choose to drink just a couple and move on -- but in Hirakata there really isn't much to move on to, except for Beer House Hobbitt (same owner) on the other side of the station. Staff knows the Japanese beer scene pretty well.“

“Heading 3 minutes north of the station you’ll find this bar specializing in imported craft beers on the 4F of a typical Japanese bar building. It boasts 10 taps but at the moment just has 6 beers on weekdays and 7 on weekends. Built it possibility or growth. This is probably one of the smallest craft bars in Kansai as you come in and it’s a long narrow space with a dozen or so seats at the bar. It kind of reminds me of hole in the wall places in Kiyamachi or Golden Gai. Prices are 700-900 for 300ml and 1100-1300 yen for 480ml. A decent tap list with American and European craft: Old Rasputin, Lagunitas IPA, De Ranke Saison De Dottignies & Caldera Mother Pucker Raspberry Sour were some of the beers on when I went so they should have a beer to suit any taste. Really friendly staff who honestly love beer and are up for a chat. If you’re Japanese isn’t that great they also have an English menu on hand.“

“Small, narrow place on the 4th floor. Fits about 15 at the counter. 8 taps of imports were quite interesting aside from Belleview Kriek and Hoegaarden. They had 1 Aussie saison, 1 Kiwi IPA, a Belgian pils, and a few American ales. Interestingly chosen. Prices are a bit high, though: ¥700-900 for about 250ml, and ¥1100-1350 for about 400 ml. Crowd was Japanese men and couples 35-55 mainly. they were friendly. Staff is quite knowledgeable. Good new place in Hirakata. Worth a stop in conjunction with Hobbit, their sister bar.“

“Small place. 6 taps are all Japanese craft. Usually 600 1/2 and 950 a pint. Also various bottles. I went during an anniversary party. They had some special beers, and some of the real special ones were quite pricy. Lots of young locals hanging out, quite friendly. Most of the people here went to the local international uni and thus speak English or Spanish and want to practice. A nice place in what has long been a beer desert.“

“A cool looking bar with a bit of a Mediterranean island bar shack vibe with all the white painted furniture. Got there after opening and they were really friendly and excited to chat about beer. I believe 6 taps all domestics this time around but also a good 30 bottles in two fridges running roughly 1000 yen. Draft was 600 yen for a half and 950 for a pint. They sometimes have events and imported beers on tap. The best bar in the area.“

“Popped in just after they had opened, about 5 taps but only two were on(Minoh W-IPA & Pilsner) but the guy said others were on their way. The guy spoke English and also kindly pointed me towards Beer House Hobbit for Craft Beer. Friendly welcoming staff in a simple fairly bright bar with a bit of an orange island theme. It reminded me of places I went to in Roppongi in that it is basically a giant bar taking up the whole room in a big square layout. The vibe was stylish yet casual. A decent local in Hirakata but for more variety head to Beer House Hobbit.“

“Small bar next to Hirakata Station. Seating for around 20-25 around a U-shaped bar. Somewhat crudely handmade square bar stools which are uncomfortably high and too large. Loud house music on the system. Four taps, all Minoh regulars. 700yen for a 350-400ml glass. Pours aren’t really up to the top. Cocktails 500yen. Very limited food menu, just small plates. Friendly staff, for sure. Crowd was mixed, mostly youngish, college students, and many seemed to be regular visitors. Okay for a quick one if you are near the station.“

“Small pub near Hirakata Station (Keihan line). Seats for 10 at the bar and 10 or so at two tables. Four taps, three Japanese craft beer and Bass Pale Ale. Half pint for 600yen; pint for 950 yen. Decent, though most uninspiring, selection of bottles from Europe (mostly Belgium), Asia, and North America. Cocktails for 500yen. Beer snack menu, with a slight emphasis on Spanish food. Friendly owner, who seems to know his beer. Dimly lit, with slightly irritating pop music on the sound system, sort of a lived in atmosphere. Not a bad place if you are in the area.“

“4 Minoh taps... Can’t really call it a craft beer bar, just a Minoh beer bar. Only one serving size, around 350ml, 700 yen. Well managed space, all counter seating... custom made massive bar stools that could work as tables at any other bar in Japan. Tiny food menu of moriawase plates only. Lots of college kids drinking cheap cocktails. Fun enough place for the area, but if you want beer, there’s better.“

“4 taps added in the last year, a good 40 bottles or so. Prices are decent for the taps (600 half pint, 950 pint), high for the bottles (1200~). Small cozy place but can get crowded and smokey. Small kitchen but good small portion dishes. Very adequate for the area... this isn’t where you look for serious beer, but if you’re in the area and would like a drink, this place is not bad.“

“I am adding this place as the area around Kuzuha & around is a virtual good beer desert. This place has 4 taps (Lowenbrau, Guiness, Asahi Super Dry * Bass Pale Ale) at ok prices. They also have a bunch of Japanese craft beers at very high prices(780 yen for Minoh, 1300 yen for Fujizakura!) but like I said there aren’t many places with any craft beer around here. The staff were friendly and seemed to know a bit about beer. They were trying to educate people about styles beyond lager but just had very basic beer knowledge. The atmosphere was great, very cool looking little bar with around a dozen stools around the bar and a few tables too. It is pricey and has nothing special on tap(probably ever) and just some pretty standard Japanese craft beer in bottles. If you live around here it may be a good place to go but otherwise don’t bother. Pluses: atmosphere & service Minuses: selection (though better than anywhere else in the area) & prices“
