“NIce interior English pub across the street from Kennington (which is being renovated and is a disaster.... but should be done by late September 2018). A good selection of local taps and decent service. Nice beer garden out back, popular with locals. Charming place to hang out on a summer afternoon.“

“Large and empty (on our visit) modernised restaurant next to the Old Red Lion. It has a clinical, sterile feel, obviously set up for dining rather than drinking. An imposing atmosphere. Few of the advertised beers were on unfortunately. We didn’t really enjoy our visit.“

“This is a friendly, quite homely pub, despite the Goth like entrance and sometimes music. It seems fairly original in places, low beams, low doorways, wooden floors. The lighting is subdued, apart from in the conservatory. We had visited the Imperial War Museum before coming here and it is fairly handy for this. Well priced and cooked Sunday lunches. Well worth the visit.“

“Situated pretty much opposite Kennington tube station this is a large venue with bar area on right of entrance and restaurant featuring Thai food on the left. Decent range of Oakham beers in good nick and a few bottles as well. Do rotate the range and have the new beers too. If you’re an Oakham fan and live in London it’s worth a look. Food was pretty good too.“

“One of my favourite pubs in London and, happily, quite local to me. feels like a country pub once you’re through the door, a world away from the busy road outside. Beer selection seems to get better every time I go in. Some interesting bottles available and there is always something good on cask. Beers from the likes of Dark Star, Long Man and more recently By The Horns and Five Points. Not a huge bottle range but they always seem to have something interesting. Food is a hit too.“

“I was once lucky enough to sit in here with cricketer Dominic Cork and discuss the merits of Michael Atherton’s England captaincy with him over a pint. Despite being close to the Oval cricket ground it is hidden by the large housing estate overlooking it and it takes some meandering through the backs to find it either on foot or by car. It’s worth the trip though as it’s a fine place to drink or dine in the midst of inner-city urban London. The pub has a traditional appearance occupying a purpose built building identical to the attractive terrace houses in this area. It’s a modern take on the traditional English pub with a plusher more expensive design but suitable for all. It clearly wants to attract people in for food and its design with a light and airy atmosphere is conducive for this. There’s also a small attractive beer garden to its side. Importantly it serves a range of real ales.“

“The first time I came across this pub I was helping a friend move into one of the rooms being rented above the bar area. It’s located on one of the major routes in and out of central London and it’s hard not to notice the tudor style facade of its front in this self-standing establishment. Inside there’s a mix of old world charm and the clutter of being in someones busy living room. The seating area extends to the rear of the building where a small beer garden exists. The bar stocks a range of real ales and they’re not the usual London range.“

“Nicely appointed restaurant that also has a pretty decent selection of Oakham beers. On my visit there were 8 Oakham ales to choose from. The condition of my Citra wasn’t perfect, but the other beers were fine. Kernel was available in the fridges too. The food’s pretty excellent pan-Asian fare. Prices for the food’s a bit steep, but the quality’s solid. The service was attentive, but I’d expect nothing less considering I was one of only three people in the establishment. Overall, this is a good place that would do well in a location that actually gets foot traffic. If Oaka fails, it’ll be entirely down to its questionable location.“

“Oaka is a cross between a restaurant serving pan-Asian food and bar with nine or ten Oakham Ales on draught. It had been open less than a week when we visited and still had a very new feel to it. It’s a stylish place, nicely fitted out, with a brass plate from the bottom of a mash tun on the floor as you enter. I asked about the taps high on one wall. They were trickling water into a silver trough and, for some reason, reminded me of the Burton Union system but apparently they’re something to do with feng shui. I hope this place does well. The beers were tasty and in good condition and the staff were very friendly (although, as Colin says below, they didn’t have much to do as the place was more or less empty when we visited). “Visited early on Tuesday evening on the 19/03/13 a few weeks after opening. Apart from Chris, Ruth and myself there was one other punter in the 30 or 40 minutes we spent here, despite the time approaching 6pm when we left! The place is about 70% restaurant (pan asian cuisine) and 30% bar. We stood by the bar while we drank. Nice decor, modern, smart in appearance, mixture of soft and hard chairs/stools. There is a flattened out mash tun on the floor as you enter. The only natural light comes from the frontage. The girl serving us didn’t seem to know too much about the beers. 10 cask lines dispensing Oakham beers (9 different ones on this visit). There are also a couple of keg taps not offering Oakham beers, I didn’t take too much notice but did make a note that Camden Hells was on tap to keep the lager crowd happy. I had 2 Oakham beers from cask, both fine but the condition of the Atilla was perhaps not the best. As we left at 6ish, the other punter who we’d been chatting to had also gone thus leaving zero customers! I do worry about them being able to maintain 10 different cask lines and on this showing I’d expect a reduction in choice in due course, ballsy effort to go in with 10 though - all sticks a blazing! Overall - nice venue, didn’t see any food as there was no one there, hopefully it will pick up. I’ll certainly head back here but fully expect to see less beers on offer - but I’d like to be proved wrong!“
