“500 m off the main old town road in corner of old warehouse. Inside despite bad weather was busy and full of smiling guests. Behind on side you have 2 mini fridges with cans to go. Service was polite when paying but did not bother to thank for tip and patronage or was much interested in me as guest. Still beer was excellent and will be back when around.“

“What a pleasant surprise. Suburban location with good parking, very nice atmosphere with wooden bar, semi industrial look, great service and most important, excellent beers, veering on ipas and sours. They have caterers once in a while, but they do not have food. Worth the détour.“

“Medium size place, short hours, did not try very limited food offering; quite decent beer, worth cultivating. Beware of nights they have live music, volume makes conversation or even enjoying your beer impossible.“

“A lovely addition to this part of Southern Ontario - my hope is that this is the first of many to show up in the landscape in this region. Some nice communal tables, a bar area and merch area, friendly staff, and a glimpse at the brewing equipment behind.“

“2017-02-11. Not much to it yet, it is a very new brewery in a strip mall type unit and they are still in the early stages so it’s mostly just a bottleshop with the option to sample things. Guy behind the bar was super friendly and seemed to know a fair bit about the beers. Beers are all at least decent, with a few being real standouts. Feels like they are experimenting right now. Their dry hopped sour makes me hope they continue with those! We shall see how things progress once they have settled in more. Worth a visit.“

“Visited a few years ago but I basically grew up down the street so have heard many, many stories about this bar... Frankly, I’m a little surprised to find it listed here. It offers a bunch of macro brews and British imports, but where are the craft beers? Maybe that’s slowly changing? Ambiance is lovely, like an old English pub complete with Tudor decor, and it’s been there for what seems like eons. I wouldn’t recommend it as a Destination as you’ll find dozens of pubs with better offerings in Toronto, but if you’re in Markham, I expect you won’t find a pub that’s more interesting.“

“Best fries in Markham Village! by far! hand cut and cooked to perfection. Thursday night is burger night. Great burgers for $10. T hey have a daily specials board that offer unique dishes and is reasonably priced. the food is great! Good atmosphere and is nestled on the south side of Hwy 7. As for the beer it is generic at best BUT they do have Mill St. Tankhouse, Mill St. Organic and a seasonal offering. This is the best place to go in Markham for craft beer, which is sad but it is true!“

“The Douche of Markham as I like to call it. Terrible place. Beers are generic macros and British imports. Although they do carry Moosehead Boundary ale. Sad to say that this is the only craft beer at the place. There is a very nice patio there that gets afternoon sun but most of the beers on the patio come in plastic cups. The food is terrible and is frozen food heated up. If it werent for the patio there is no reason to stop here.“

“Best pub in Markham. Not that there is much competition.“

“We’ve been together now for forty years / And it don’t seem a day too much! Well, my old Duchess has been around a bit over 30 years now, and I felt it was high time that I added my local pub to the Ratebeer family, as well as adding Markham, Ontario. It’s a super little pub with a nice selection of taps. The usual Molson suspects plus Moosehead, Miller, Carlsberg etc, but also Tennent’s, Harp, Kilkenny, Guiness, Tetley’s and my fave of the bunch, Fuller’s London Pride. They also carry Sam Adams as well as (on date of review, October 9/11) a seasonal Samuel Adams Octoberfest. A proper UK style pub with lots of wood, a few TVs carrying the NFL, and occasional evening music. In the back there is a very large and pleasant outdoor patio, so plenty of room. Not a destination to drive many miles to, but a fine local for us Markham folk. Good chicken wings! UPDATE from February 12, 2012 - The Duchess now boasts 22 taps according to staff. Still my local!“
