Gordon and MacPhail (Beer Store)

“Visited looking for wiskeys and local beers and found a couple BA stouts and a barleywine along with a couple interesting other beers to purchase. Food was great in the deli. Absolutely amazing for Scotch wiskeys.“

“Open plan and bright hotel bar, aimed at providing food to a more mature clientele. Beer range tends to be safe and traditional, but can offer the occasional local cask option.“

“It’s a small Spoons, much the same as every other one of similar size. Best thing is the toilets are at ground level so you don’t need to undertake the usual mountain climbing exercise to get to them for a change.“

“Not the best place for beer, but if you like whisky you would be in your element! Mostly local beers but a few from the rest of the UK. A bit on the pricey side and an awesome deli attached. (If I was rating this as a whisky shop this would get almost double points!)“

“Small hotel with a nice bar/restaurant. Cosy with a few hand pumps and excellent range of whiskies. Food is expensive for fairly decent pub grub.“

“Standard Wetherspoon pub, service abysmal. Cheap though.“

“Two years old, but clearly best pub in Elgin. Three real ales plus all local breweries in bottles. Outside drinking and a small beer garden. Upstairs venue. Can’t be faulted other than quite noisy when busy and slightly high prices. Sets the standards high.“

“Gordon & Macphail Is a truly spectacular whisky shop from one of the best (perhaps the best) independent whisky bottlers around. The store is located in the centre of Elgin and has pretty extended opening hours until late. Shop is spilt up into 4 rooms - whisky, wine/spirits, butchers/deli and grocery/beer. Beer is located in the first room you enter on the left handside. Must be around 50 beers from local breweries - Cairngorm, Black Isle, Spey Valley etc. decent if you haven’t had much Scottish beer, but there were actually no new beers for me. I came for the whisky anyway and was blown away. A must for any whisky fan.“

“High street Wetherspoon in an attractive building in the middle of Elgin’s commercial centre. What it lacks in width it makes up for in depth and is a suitable size for the size of the historic town. It’s well planned out and very comfortable and cosy inside with a relaxed atmosphere and a large number of rotating ales in a traditional environment..“

“It’s a Spoons, quite small but fairly decent. One of the few without a 7 story climb to the toilets.“

“I added this as they sell the core range of Cairngorm beers in amongst the many bottles of fine whisky.“

“This shop is an oasis in Moray. Scottish local beers for some reason are so hard to come by in this area. Anyway this is a large shop which is prmarily for whisky and wine but which has a large selection of Scottish beer.“

“One of the few places in the Moray area which is promoting cask beer. When I visited, they seemed to mostly be supporting Sinclair brewery beer. Good food, decent ambience considering it’s a hotel.“

“Another of the huge chain of WEtherspoons pubs. Very well done inside nice and open yet retainning old Scottish charm. Nice quick service in both food and drink. 14 taps about 8 of them cask ales and one cask cider. Good choice of rarer Scottish ales. Food was good and cheap. Overall a nice place for a few cask ales and some grub if you are in Elgin.“
