54 /100 Seahorse (Greene King) (Bar) UNIT 9 WALLASEY WATERFRONT RETAIL & LEISURE, In the new commercial area in front of the Marine Lake just before the River Mersey estuary reaches the Irish Sea, this Greene King operation looks like a pub once your'e on the inside, although if the weather is good its outside tables and chairs are a very appealing place to sit as well, although the view is of restaurant units just a few yards away on the other side of the pedestrian walkway. Food is the main reason it is here, especially as it's under a Travelodge hotel so any guests from there don't have very far to walk. The cask beers are therefore second-fiddle with just 3 on my visit, all of which are regularly seen throughout the country. |

58 /100 Master Mariner (JDW) (Bar) 3-5 UNION TERRACE, MARINE PROMENADE On the promenade of the regenerated seafront area of New Brighton where the River Mersey meets the Irish Sea, it’s possible to watch the ferries and other large commercial shipping head in and out of Liverpool’s various docks from here. In terms of seaside activities the entertainment has been homogenised to a very familiar looking brand new built complex of restaurants and bars that have become a staple draw in most towns and cities. Wetherspoon have clearly done their homework here and are now taking a slice of the action, although it’s a less than average sized pub for the chain and as it’s a fairly new addition it has more of a restaurant friendly atmosphere to it than a public house and is clearly aiming to draw in diners throughout the day that come to visit the northern tip of The Wirral. The decor, fixture and fittings follows that of a ship given the name of the place which is also apt for the nautical region it’s located in. There’s two rows of ale pumps on either side of the small ’L’ shaped bar but both carried the same choices. |
