60 /100 Midtown Oyster Bar (Restaurant) 345 THAMES ST Visited in May 2023. Very central and touristy place for seafood and drinks. The food is really good. They had 14 beers on tap though only a few craft choices. Nice place to put away some oysters with beer. Expensive as expected though. |
76 /100 2320 OSU DRIVE Rogue's big harborfront operation is still a brewery/distillery first, but there are noteworthy bells and whistles that make it a good stop. You can get a tap beer while shopping the swag and carryout beer and liquor, have a meal on the backside of the brewery in their restaurant or enjoy a beverage overlooking Yaquinta Bay. I was in just the brewery side of the operation, but there appeared to be a good sized crowd at the other building housing the distillery. |
86 /100 748 SW BAY BLVD Located near the west end of a touristy street, on a Tuesday night in October we could park right in front. There were about 20 ale offerings on tap plus a wide lineup of Rogue's distilled products including three whiskys. Flights were available for both beer and whisky, with the beer flights being a near-ridiculous four 4-oz glasses for $8. There were main courses and reasonably priced appetizers to help cushion the many little beers. A small swag shop with clothes and beverages was there, too. A great stop. |
86 /100 150 MAIN ST. I think there are two entries for this place. It's connected to a bar on the left side as you enter; on the right is Eden's taproom and small shop. Husband and wife team Riley & Pete put on a tasting that I will never forget, thanks for that! You reserve in advance, and then get a flight of four - which turned into five, then six, then...well, who's counting? They spend their time on their ice ciders, which are outstanding and have lots of variations. Any leftover apples go into their ciders, which are equally world class. No food or snax, but there is a bakery in back, and you are surrounded by restaurants. It's street parking but there are several large lots around, plus a beautiful walking trail on the nearby lake - a key for sobering up after all the ice ciders. Such an easy stop, and worth every minute. |
52 /100 629 YORK STREET Just across the bridge from Cincy, this place has a tight parking lot in front. It's a BBQ joint, so it smells like meat in side -- no so great for veggie types. They had about 20 taps, with many ambitious BA styles at this point. I tried 6 beers, including many BA beers. Unfortunately -- and I'll be blunt -- they don't know what they're doing. They don't know how to use the barrels, as all the BA beers were boozy, hot, and full of perfumey notes without any beer body depth. They need to learn how to brew. Service was a bit impatient; comfortable spot, but not a beer destination. |
44 /100 Derby Short Stop (Grocery Store) 4486 US-5 Gas station with a really small but solid selection of craft beers. |
84 /100 Norey’s Bar and Grille (Bar) 156 BROADWAY Good restaurant with a really good selection of international beers (mostly European ones).
Excellent shellfish. |
74 /100 748 SW BAY BLVD Where the Rogue nation started, so a cool piece of beer history. That being said, it is not that impressive to be honest, an old wood building in a fish market on the bay front. A decent amount of space, but the bar front and center when you walk in is flooded with locals that give you a weird eye on a Wednesday night. Food was decent, beer was decent...cool to see some Rogue beer you can't find in the public. Considering the history, it is worth a stop, but I think the other brewery is town is likely where they spend their money. |
36 /100 Pour Judgement (Bar) 32 BROADWAY ST Local dive bar with great service and some great pub type food. The taps aren't as good as they used to be and are smaller more expensive pours of the higher ABVs. Better food and taps up the street. |
100 /100 Norey’s Bar and Grille (Bar) 156 BROADWAY World-class beer: 20 taps, 1 cask, & 100 plus bottles. Voted Best Beer Bar in RI 2016-2019 by Craftbeer.com, rated 100 Beer Advocate Magazine, and Best Craft Beer Selection 2017 by Newport Life Magazine readers. Norey's features tap takeovers of world-class beer, mostly by style.

100 /100 Norey’s Bar and Grille (Bar) 156 BROADWAY This is the best beer bar in Southern New England. Not only does it showcase World Class Beer in 20 taps, 1 cask, & 100 plus bottles, it's also a 5-star neighborhood bistro with a menu which changes daily. If I'm going a drink a beer on tap that is only found in Europe, I don't want to eat a burger or nachos. I want a great meal to go along with it. Norey's has the best chef on Broadway and everything is made in-house including the house smoked chicken wings. The house-made pasta is fantastic. It rivals every Italian restaurant in Newport. Bolognese, Goat Cheese Tortellini with house-made sausage, Lobster Scampi, Chicken Pesto, Bourbon Bacon Pappardelle, & more.
The entire staff able to help you choose a beer based on your past experience or lead you to experiencing something new. Anyone can buy beer in a liquor store or a brewery. Drinking quality beer in a restaurant is an experience.
Norey's offers free live music Wed. Americana, Blues, Bluegrass & Thurs. World Class Jazz. There are also World Class Tap Takeovers- a brewery or a style including ciders, sours, holiday beers from around the world. Takeover range from 8 taps to the full 20 taps and stay up until they are gone- usually about 2 weeks.
|
84 /100 Rex Liquors (Beer Store) 126 BROADWAY Great family business for locals. You are going to find the top RI beers here, but nothing rare. Great prices on bourbon. I love supporting this local business and this great family. |
68 /100 Pour Judgement (Bar) 32 BROADWAY ST Patty and I stopped in for lunch Friday after the 'Newport walk'. We were very thirsty. I found 2 beers I have not had before. We had fast service from the ladies working there. The food was the usual bar offerings. |
90 /100 Pour Judgement (Bar) 32 BROADWAY ST Small spot right in downtown. Bar on the left with a limited amount of tables on the right. I didn't count all of the beers on tap but there's a lot. Rotating stock. There's always a beer for somebody. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Food is outstanding! Prices are a little steep, but it's tourist season in Newport. I'll have to some back sometime during the off season. Definitely work going!!! |
54 /100 405 EAST MARSH LANE, SUITE #7 Cute little family-run place in an industrial complex. They had 8 beers on tap. Flights of 4 available for $5. Hoppy beers were unpalatably bitter, but the stout was solid. Friendly, chipper service. Not a highlight, if you’re bumming around the Wilmington area or passing through from Philly to Baltimore, or vice versa, it’s a decent stop. |
80 /100 150 MAIN ST. This place replaced Ciderhouse Bar & Grill, and is pretty far north in VT, close to the Canadian border. It's a massive place that doesn't seem to have made full use of the space. You can do a flight of 4 regular draft ciders for $7, and a ice cider flight of 5 of them for $15 or so. They also have a few beers on tap, including a Hill Farmstead. Super friendly young lady helped explain the products to us. With the new Burlington taproom about to open up soon, this place may be redundant if you're spending time in Burlington, but for now, this was a kickass stop. |
68 /100 Norey’s Bar and Grille (Bar) 156 BROADWAY Nice upscale little bar right on the strip in downtown. The selection here tends to lean towards the Belgians. But it's always rotating so there's usually a little something for everyone. Staff seemed knowledgeable but not really all too friendly. They may have been getting ready for the Friday evening crowd, I've been a server before so I understand how it is. Prices were a little steep, but it's Newport. That, and the quality is a little higher than what is seen normally in the area. I didn't get the food, but it looked absolutely amazing. To be honest, this place kind of reminded me of Deep Ellum outside of Boston. |
44 /100 Norey’s Bar and Grille (Bar) 156 BROADWAY Nice place in downtown Newport, minutes from Pour Judgment. Small tap selection and no flights or small pours or even free samples offered, so this was a total dealbreaker for me. Rather cold service, who didn’t seem to care much. Pricey. Not recommended. |
58 /100 Pour Judgement (Bar) 32 BROADWAY ST Nice long bar in downtown Newport. Reasonably big taplist with a few nice RI beers. No flights or small pours though, which is really a deal breaker for me at this point. Friendly service. Worth a stop if you’re spending the night or a bunch of hours in Newport. |
74 /100 1800 LOWER BAILEY ROAD We came to this unique place, in the middle of nowhere, on 29.7.2018. A small hop field, a barn accommodating the brewhouse and the restaurant and a nice patio. Beers, roughly 10 on tap, were quite good. We tasted the Pale Ale, Stout and the IPA. Limited food menu. Chicken sandwich was good. Service was a bit slow, but very friendly. Highlight is the patio. Sitting outside with a view to the hop farm and the green forests and mountains is very relaxing. |
52 /100 Weis Markets (Newport) (Grocery Store) 316 WALNUT STREET Nice spot in the center of town, with a park nearby where you can walk your dog. |
62 /100 Buskers Authentic Irish Pub and Restaurant (Restaurant) 178 THAMES STREET Stopped in for lunch. Nice Irish bar, longer than it is wide. Lots of wood throughout the bar. Plenty of seating at the bar or tables. Good Irish food and a few guest taps from Down the Road. Got a sampler and all were good. Neat place to try. |
74 /100 Fresh Thyme Farmers Market (Grocery Store) 82 CAROTHERS ROAD Build your own 6 pack at $9.99 with 120 singles from which to choose. Easy parking. Beer is on the left as you walk in. Typical beer selection from health food stores with emphasis on local and craft beer. Limited bomber selection. Sells antelope meat.
Update on 12/22/17 - they have expanded their beer selection and have a bunch of FFF as well as lots of local beers (tri-state). |
80 /100 1800 LOWER BAILEY ROAD "Nestled among the hills just outside of historic Newport, Pennsylvania, River Bend Hop Farm and Brewery is housed in a century-old barn located at the bend of the Juniata River.Surrounded by wildlife and their very own hop field".
Located 3 miles, less than ten minutes from the Newport Square.
Open only a few months now, this place is already on a roll. They are newly opened, but their beer tastes seasoned and finished. The owners knew what they were doing, then they brought in an even more experienced brew-master. It shows in the quality of the beer. I tried five different beers hear in my initial visit, and all five of them were of high quality and tasted good. ( I have sampled over 400 beers in the past 12 years on Rate.beer), I am not new at this.
They serve snacks and there is a rally nice food truck set up outside, it looks- for the long run.
The folks here are very friendly and a band was setting up to play on the late Saturday afternoon when we came to visit. |
74 /100 Newport Beverage (Beer Store) NEWPORT PLAZA (NEXT TO GIANT) OFFNEWPORT EXIT OF 322 As a long time resident of Central Pennsylvania, I believe that this shop is as good as any in a 50 mile radius of Harrisburg. The staff is great, the selection wonderful, and never forget to check on the specials in the front row across from the sales counter. |
56 /100 Norey’s Bar and Grille (Bar) 156 BROADWAY Located on what looks like the main drag of Newport. Parking was available on the street though I had to walk a few blocks. Definitely has kind of a rich moneyed vibe about the place. They had 18-20 taps with half filled with mediocre Belgian and Scandinavian offerings and the other half regional craft. There wasn't a lot on the tap list that I hadn't seen before. The food was tasty. Unfortunately the bartender was rude and condescending. Clearly if you read through the reviews for this place, many of them feel like plants. Maybe if the bartender wasn't such an asshole I might go back, but it doesn't strike me as any type of destination place. |
70 /100 Crazy Fox Saloon (Bar) 901 WASHINGTON AVE Came here on the Monday of Cincinnati Beerweek 2017. Great atmosphere = has a functioning pinball machine. street parking. |
78 /100 629 YORK STREET designated parking. does flights. beers are getting better. been here three times now, including opening week. Great decor but seems to always be empty. When you walk in, all the way to the left in the back corner, there is a fridge with bottles for sale. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. nasty glare if you sit at the bar as the Sun sets.
Has 18 taps and all house beers. |
76 /100 Buzzy’s Beverage and Redemption Center (Beer Store) 100 EAST MAIN STREET Typical shady small town beerstore with a lot of high class VT beers in the fridges. Okay, you are in Vermont, that´s not unusual for residents but impressing for a tourist like me. Helpfull stuff. What did I need more on a friday evening? |
82 /100 Wellington Square Liquors (Beer Store) 580 THAMES ST Worker said they have new management, all I know is the craft selection was huge for the size of the place. |
76 /100 Brick Alley Pub (Bar) THAMES STREET Decent food and beer. |
52 /100 Rex Liquors (Beer Store) 126 BROADWAY The good stuff is on the side. |
86 /100 Norey’s Bar and Grille (Bar) 156 BROADWAY Great food and beer. Kind of a local hang out, to get away from the touristy garbage. |
74 /100 629 YORK STREET Visited on a Sunday afternoon with the wife and phaleslu. It was a bit of a slow afternoon with a party outside on their patio, and then just a few folks inside. The parking lot is weird, as the direction of the spaces was backward from what I would expect. Maybe we came in from the wrong direction? Inside is pretty large. You could fit a lot of people in there. There are several tables set up, a decent sized bar, and a living room style area with couches and a coffee table. There was a television on the wall in front of where we sat with a hockey game on at our request. Food was not available to order, but they had a popcorn machine with various flavoring shakers at no cost. That was a nice snack during the visit. Flights of 4 5 ounce pours are $7. They had 11 beers and a cider on tap for this visit. All the beers were at least decent with a couple I really enjoyed. As Peter mentioned in his review, they are going for the more traditional, low key styles. So nothing crazy, but all good. I would visit this place again. I liked that is wasn’t super busy, but if word gets out they can make good beer, that won’t last long. |
78 /100 629 YORK STREET I visited here for the first time with JStax and his wife on a slow Sunday afternoon. The place is in the first floor of an old brick warehouse building in downtown Newport, just off the main drag (Monmouth Street - it faces York). There’s a parking lot with odd striping just to the north, and plenty of street parking. There’s a patio, and the door is on the side of the building facing the lot, not the street. The long main bar greets you as you walk in, with a clear menu of today’s offerings. The space is a really nice renovation of the old building, basically the whole first floor. There are a couple TVs and a popcorn machine, with some coolers way off in the left corner with bottles to go. There are some barrels along the back wall between the coolers and the bar. Plenty of tables of different varieties, and even some board games. There were 12 beers when I visited, all house taps. The quality was solid but nothing stood out. They’re doing more low-key styles, which is fine with me. Flights of four are $7. The pours seemed pretty good, too; maybe 5 oz. glasses? All in all, a good, worthwhile stop while you’re in Newport, and worth the trek across the river from Cincinnati. |
86 /100 629 YORK STREET The owners have put in a lot of work making this into a first-class space, including plenty of lot parking. Presently they only serve their own brews, but there were 11 available when I visited. Flights of 4-5oz samples are $7.50. A good place for anyone who is in the area. |
98 /100 Norey’s Bar and Grille (Bar) 156 BROADWAY Overall very impressed with Norey’s and their management. Huge fan our sour beers and really have never found a place with this strong of a beer selection. OEC was on tap and don’t think that quality of sour beers can be found in many places. Management was incredibly friendly and would highly recommend this bar...especially for beer geeks! |
82 /100 629 YORK STREET Visited after dinner on a Tuesday. Shiny new place located a few seedy blocks off the river in Newport. Ample parking in the lot out front. Big tasting room, tables and bar seat up front, additional seating to the right, and a ton of space to stand to the left. Looks like it is built for a crowd. The help was crazy friendly and knowledgeable. I visit a bunch of places, and I would say this was one of the top 5 bartenders I have ever been served by. One of the brewers stopped by to chat as well, which was very cool. 10 house beers on and 1 guest cider (Ciderboys). 4 beer flight is $7, full pours also available. Fun stop, very impressed by both the level of investment and the quality of beer right out of the gate. 82 = ★★★½ (Solid place, near the top of the list for locals and visitors) I only use the total score, not the component parts. |
70 /100 200 E 3RD ST Visited after dinner on a Tuesday. Located one block off the river on the Kentucky side of Cincinnati. Decent sized parking lot out front, nothing unique about the exterior - looks like an event hall. The interior however, is authentic German beer hall all the way. Nice wood picnic tables through the middle, plenty of seating at the bar. Solo accordion player playing all the Oktoberfest favorites. Bier garten out back looked inviting, though it was February. 5 house beers on draft available as half or full liter, as well as growlers to go. The brewery is behind the bar, and the industrial kitchen is somewhat open and overly bright to the right. Good vibe, friendly service. Traditional German food menu. Fun place, authentically done. 70 = ★★½ (Locals should check it out, visitors with extended time) I only use the total score, not the component parts. |
86 /100 629 YORK STREET A nice new brewery here in Newport, Ky and a good selection of beers. The day that I was there, we also had a food truck which was definitely helpful. |
78 /100 293 JT CONNELL RD Visited on a Saturday early afternoon. Kind of hard to find as it’s signage is small and it’s tucked away from the road a bit. Once found, the parking situation is good. Plenty of spots. They make rum and beer here and you can do a flight of each if you like. The beer flight was $8 and it included 4 beers and a Newport Storm Snifter. Pretty good deal. The beers here were all decent and the service was friendly. With each sample (you got one at a time since you taste with your snifter) they give you a bit of a background and some of their own tasting notes for it. Other than the tasting area, there is a merchandise area as well. Normal merch, plus they have each of their current beers available for purchase either in packs or individually. That was a nice touch. I would definitely recommend stopping in here if you find yourself in Rhode Island. |
74 /100 Brick Alley Pub (Bar) THAMES STREET Stopped by while on a cruise stop. Very rainy day and didn’t venture too far from ship on my own. Nice bar (and restaurant). Very busy, but bartenders did their best. Was only place in Newport I had a chance to visit because of weather. Glad to visit this bar. |
76 /100 Pour Judgement (Bar) 32 BROADWAY ST A very good bar overall. The tap selection is solid, but certainly not outstanding. They have a small selection of local/regional breweries, some national craft stuff and then some (I seem to recall) macro as well. The food, though, is outstanding and really good value. I had the hot pastrami sandwich and I also tried my wife’s grilled cheese; both were superb - classic pub grub, and really well made. The prices on beers were fair as well. Friendly and pretty efficient service. Has kind of an ’upscale dive bar’ feel to it, if you catch my drift. Newport doesn’t have a lot in the way of beer destinations, so if you find yourself in town this is a very good option - especially for a meal with your beer. |
94 /100 Norey’s Bar and Grille (Bar) 156 BROADWAY Very premium bar in Rhode Island. It’s a high rent area so it has to be expensive but look over that and the staff you get on keg wow. Great bottle range. Attentive staff who really know their stuff. Killer blues band. Awesome place. Really perfect microamtic keg system and one of the best places for well looked-after beer which I’ve been to. Take a lot of money and spend it and be happy. I was. |
74 /100 Brick Alley Pub (Bar) THAMES STREET Nice place to have a beer if you role in a cruise. Not a huge selection. Solid local picks. Wifi. Food smells good. Lunch buffet available. Servers friendly and helpful. Small bar area but plenty of table. Pretty nice bottle and can selection as well. |
84 /100 748 SW BAY BLVD Nice Bar.
Very good Restaurant.
Great selection of Rogue Beers.
Excellent Service.
We (as travelling Family) liked it a lot here. |
96 /100 Bridge Liquors (Beer Store) 23 CONNELL HWY Incredible selection of hard to find brews. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. My first stop when I’m looking for something new to try. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for Android |
62 /100 2320 OSU DRIVE So many beers but no character at all. This place has nothing to do with a charming craft brewery. It is a beer factory with too much merchandising around. Disappointing. |
64 /100 Beer Sellar (Bar) 301 RIVERBOAT ROW Cool in the fact that it’s a docked boat and has a good amount o beers on tap. Food ordered was just a pizza, oven baked at the house was probably better, but oh well. View of the river, good selection on tap. Bartender wasn’t very knowledgeable about beer on tap either. |
