60 /100 221 ROCHDALE ROAD
“Sam Smiths pub on the road north to Rochdale just beyond its small centre. It’s a locals bar but friendly enough with a large best room and a small bar side that’s looks out onto the road junction that this pub is presumably named after. There’s no cask ale here but it does have plenty of keg options as well as plenty of bottle options from the brewer so it’s a great place to pick up a few Samuel Smith ticks if you need them, but there’s no other reason to visit. Has a large car park at its rear which is obscured by a hedge from the main road. It’s extremely cheap here.“

56 /100 499 ROCHDALE ROAD,
“Family friendly pub on the north side of Royton on the main road to Rochdale. It looks like a locals pub from the exterior, but inside it’s got an appealing open plan interior with decent furniture and fittings, with several defined areas to sit in where you can find your own space. The bar is in the centre of the room with three hand pumps that carry JW Lees ales as well as their Golden Lager on keg, so if you’re looking for a tick from this brewer its not the worst option. The other reason to come here is for the wonderful beer garden at the rear with many tables available. Food is served, parking spaces are not abundant but you can park on the main road or the side street opposite the detached pub building.“

56 /100 230 SHAW ROAD
“Midway along the very long and straight Shaw road, this is not a bad option if you want to sample JW Lees ales, although it’s very much a local pub. It’s a large open plan single room affair with a very cosy lounge area set against the wall to the right of the central bar serving area that sports a mediocre selection of cask and keg from the brewer. Has a large car park to its side with some outdoor seating available.“
