56 /100 Rising Sun (Bar) HIGH WYCH ROAD Heavily renovated, yet still atmospheric, country pub about a mile or so outside of Sawbridgeworth. It has a nice ’feel’ although I can’t place it: part country boozer, part micropub, part (in the nicest way) council estate pub, which is weird as the average salary in here is likely ten times the UK average. A handful of ales (up to 5, but on my Monday afternoon visit only 3) available on gravity behind the bar; nothing earth-shattering - Oakham, Woodfordes and Tring on my visit - but the condition is good and the choices are decent. Worth mentioning that they’re ’Oakhademy’ members, plus various CAMRA accolades have been salt and peppered over the last decade. A few unexciting but dependable bottles (Leffe Blonde would be my first choice among the lot). No ticks for me but what the hell, I’m enjoying myself. Surprisingly well attended for a Monday in a country village, this is a worthwhile stop if you’re in the area. |
