“Visited on 10th June 2017. Large venue near to a tram stop, it’s a huge venue, plenty of rooms, decor is OK, a little worn and tired but OK. Place was fairly quiet on a Saturday afternoon. A decent range of local cask ales, well kept, picked up a couple of new beers. prices and service decent. Nice place and not too far out of the city centre.“

“Upscale, club-like feel to what is basically a hidden uni mensa for staff and PhD students. Locals like Kelham Island and Thornbridge on cask and keg. Good value and tasty food: Yorkshire pudding done well - this Belgian never expected thick British fries could be so tasty in their koninginnenhapje/vol-au-vent crispy cake. Merci Miles.“

“Close to the major roundabout that the tram drops below where the University of Sheffield buildings start. This is a traditional pub it’s own fine historic building. The rooms at its front are not used, so the bar and seating areas face the rear garden which is accessible through the glass conservative area which is used for both drinking or dining. The ’L’ shaped bar includes a lengthy row of real ales, with Acorn probably represented here as they supply a rebadged permanent ale to the pub. There were students in here on either side of the bar, but it wasn’t exclusively academic persons.“

“In the commercial area of Broomhill beyond the University and hospitals that divorce this part of the city from its centre. It’s a slow walk or drive that’s always uphill from the aforementioned. The Fox is a traditional looking pub in both its exterior and interior with the bar agains the back wall, with plenty of space and seating on three sides of it. There’s a considerable row of real ales pumps, all of which were full, all of which were regular and seasonal or special ales from the local ’Little Critters’ Brewery, which suggests to me this is their tap.“

“Small shop unit micropub with a healthy cask ale selection alongside a couple of keg options. The bar itself is in the rear righthand side of the small rectangular room with small seats and tables on most sides. Warm and friendly, it’s a very worthwile stop if you’re in this part of town. It’s very close to the Fox & Duck.“

“New Micropub at the top of Glossop Road in Broomhill. Friendly and very welcoming. Broomhill is starting to take shape as another very nice Sheffield crawl with the York and the Fox & Duck both round the corner.“

“In its own brick building in its own grounds, just below the main road that passes through the University area. Lots of the surrounding buildings are used by the University for residences or as offices and rooms for the various departments. I was here at a lunchtime, so didn’t really see too many students, but I imagine they are a regular fixture here, however it’s got a decent sized car park around it so it can cater for all types who have their own transport. It’s a fairly tight maze inside, with the bar central in the building leaving the window areas all free for seating, it has outdoor areas too. Cosy with a decent enough rotating ale range it’s just about close enough to walk from the city centre, but does feel a world away from it.“

“A nice atmosphere especially mid afternoon when it’s not too overcrowded! The good thing is to see so many youngsters (including women) drinking and talking about the ale! Staff very quick to replace a line when it ran out.“

“Student pub, also frequented by locals. Great atmosphere, about 6 ales on draught and several botlles. Cheap prices. “

“Nice pub, in the summer the patio and garden can be a great place to relax with a pint. Reasonable and regularly changing selection of cask ales.“

“It’s a Wetherspoon’s, that should tell you all you need to know. You can’t argue with the value or the food (for the price)!“

“Nice pub with a good quality range of real ales. These are mainly sourced from the excellent Thornbridge brewery. It does feel like it good do with a bit of neatening up but it is a good place to grab a few pints. A nice big conservatory at the back adds much needed space and light. Pop in if passing.“

“A typical Wetherspoon. Good beer range and decent pub grub all at a very good price. Yet, typically of a JDW, the atmosphere is not great and people seem to be there for the food, not the drink. Despite the good range of real ale on offer nothing particularly makes me want to stay past a couple of pints and a bite to eat.“

“Great local, always plenty of real-ales on selection. It’s a Wetherspoons so food served all day and good value if not exciting. Staff are friendly and helpful, manager is great. Mixed crowd usually of pensioners, students and everything in between.“

“The pub had a private club feel to it. I dont mean a seedy place, more like a private university club. The pub is hard to find. The bar had a selection of Thornbridge ales from Derbyshire. The bar staff seemed a bit cold at first but warmed up and gave some information about the beer after a while. Nice place, mix of people, freindly.“

“Large pub with a good range of cask ales, with the emphasis on Thornbridge. I was sorry to hear that they didn’t have Thornbridge bottles, but had a good time. Mixed crowd. Studenty but not posh.“

“Was right next door to our hotel. Quite large with both an indoor area, a conservatory and a garden. Lots of seating. Very friendly staff. At least one Thornbridge beer on cask, but often more than that. The crowd was a good mixed bunch of regulars and students from around the world, so I didn’t feel totally out of place. Very nice. Cheap.“

“This bar was close to our hotel. Visited during RBESG 09. Brightly lit and fairly large, but cozy bar. Lots of wood and carpet, large wooden tables to sit on. Popular with a mixed crowd. Good Thornbridge beers on tap and some micros. Enjoyed some Epic Halcyon here and Magicdave6 sleeping. Definitely worth a visit.“

“It’s the wood and the plush and the mirrors and the hush and the just-off-the-circuit and the away-from-the-meatrack and the gentlemans club feel of the place that makes the University Arms the finest place to prop myself up in at the end of a long beery day up and down the Valley. And... Thornbridge. Job done.“

“The Uni Arms is totally unexpected - you’re walking down an ugly and noisy ring road with ugly modern buildings, when you bump into this large, sedate and charming Edwardian building. A little faded to be sure, and that adds to the rather splendid old British Empire / Oxbridge atmosphere which is totally at odds with the industrial heritage of Sheffield. Five casks, two of them Thornbridge. The beer garden is an oasis of green, peace and charm in the wasteland of broken brick, concrete and weeds that makes up the forgotten battlefield of Sheffield. Unexpected and all the more delightful for that.“

“another new addition to the circuit, this was formerly a university bar, now open to everyone, popular with university lecturers. a large room with smaller side room and conservatory. four handpumps serving micros, always including at least one from Thornbridge Hall. Reasonably priced and filling food.“
