68 /100 21 MARKETPLACE 2023-09-08. 6 taps listed but only four on today. Flights of four are available. Beers were decent. Long skinny room with tanks along one wall. Small patio out front. Building has character but the space feels a bit spartan. Friendly service. We had just eaten so didn't look too closely at the food menu. Worth a visit if you are in town.

74 /100 Mercer Hall (Restaurant) 108 ONTARIO ST. 2023-09-08. Nice bar / restaurant. A few seats up front by the window, then a lot of tables down the longer back section. Decent selection of Ontario Craft breweries in a mix of styles. Food was good but messy - we shared the pulled pork bao and a falafel sandwich, both were very tasty, but neither was structurally sound and eating them was a bit of a challenge. Friendly servers. Friday lunch crowd skews older today, likely reflecting the theatre crowds. We made a reservation for lunch since I waited too long and missed booking the time I wanted for dinner so it would seem to get busy. Worth a visit if you are in town.

68 /100 PEI Liquor - Stratford (Beer Store) 9 KINLOCK RD Fairly big PEIL in the suburbs, don’t try to find imports. Mainly locals or mainstream. |
68 /100 45 CAMBRIA STREET 2018-08-18. Decent amount of seating at tables, large pizza often looked promising but we just grabbed a couple of bottles to go. Service was fine. Decor is a bit spartan. Huge amount of space in the back by the brewing area. |
68 /100 34 BRUNSWICK ST 2018-08-18. The restaurant area feels a little more forma, we sat on the very nice shady but warm patio. Three of their own beers available today plus a beer from Black Swan up the road. We had eaten so we opted for dessert. The banana bread pudding was superlative, and makes me wish we were hungrier to try the rest of the menu. Reservations apparently required at peak times! Service was very friendly. Beers were okay but perhaps not worth a visit on their own if you aren't planning to eat. Will try to come back for a meal next time we are in town.

64 /100 144 DOWNIE ST 2018-08-18. Friendly server. 5 taps of their own beers and apparently a cask sometimes. There is pretty limited seating with a couple of tables and stools at the bar and tables across the windows. Awesome giant giant black swan painting on the wall. Beers were okay but did not particularly impress today. |
70 /100 The Hub Pub & Patio (Bar) 27 MARKETPLACE 2018-08-18. We sat upstairs at The Hub. They had 50+ taps with a mix of Ontario craft and imports. Not a ton of things that would excite a beer geek but plenty of good options for a quaff. We came specifically to try something from Herald Haus. Friendly servers. Big space with patios outside. Lots of TVs give it a sports bar feel, the tables and brick make it feel slightly more posh than that. |
70 /100 144 DOWNIE ST Called in during a brief stopover and had a 5 sample flight for $10. Situated near the centre of town, there is a small cafe-like space directly adjacent to the brewing area. Busy when I was there, it appeared a wedding party had all arrived at once. Beers were solid rather than spectacular, but I particularly enjoyed the IPA and porter, both good examples of their style. Worth a call, and the town is worth a visit. |
66 /100 144 DOWNIE ST Worth a stop if you are in the area
Competent brews. Nice area. Friendly touristy stop.

74 /100 LCBO #60 - Wellington, Stratford (Beer Store) 91 WELLINGTON ST Well, as an American, I find it archaic that one has to buy beer at a store run by the government. The selection is decent enough, but I’m guessing if it had real competition there would be more to choose from. |
64 /100 Mercer Hall (Restaurant) 108 ONTARIO ST. Nice restaurant in an old building in beautiful downtown Stratford. Selection of 5 Ontario craft brews on tap, which seem to rotate. Muskoka, Lake of Bays, Beau’s, Block Three, Silversmith, Stone Hammer. Tasty food, good value at lunch. Would come back! |
76 /100 the Boar’s Head (Bar) 161 ONTARIO STREET Nice place, could use a few more craft beers though |
48 /100 the Boar’s Head (Bar) 161 ONTARIO STREET Typical hinterland pub – the type of place we sought out and called a “tar pit” in my college days. Greasy pub food, rustic surroundings and a tap handle array that, among the Keith’s, Moosehead and Old Vienna tap handles you may find Granville Pale, Steam Whistle or Big Rock Grasshopper on the beer menu slate under a heading of “craft beer”. Nothing bad about the place except this type of mediocrity is all too common in small town pubs. |
