48 /100 Londis Woolacombe (Grocery Store) WEST ROAD Facing the seafront and catering mainly for the hoardes of tourists descending here in the summer months. I guess if you're staying here at least it gives you some craft options. Visited pre-pandemic so not sure about the current selections. |
38 /100 Londis Woolacombe (Grocery Store) WEST ROAD Not sure if this is under new management or just a change of policy but although there were beers available in here, there was very little to go at. I couldn't find a single new beer for me and I would suggest even newbies would struggle to find much of interest on the day of my visit. The prices were steep too. Shame. |
44 /100 Captain Jack's (Bar) BARTON ROAD Woolacombe is quite a beer desert for the beer lover, so I struggled to locate the best available for our day in this beach resort. Just up a back street off the main bucket and spade selling area is Captain Jacks. It's a holiday makers pub but with a pleasant garden area where you could relax, unless probably it's kids holiday time. It's a bit of a barn inside with a pool table and all the usual accoutrements of the sea side pub. The beer range is limited, no new beers for me but I did have a pretty decent pint of Dartmoor Jail Ale, with which I celebrated Boris' downfall, otherwise it is part of the St. Austell domination of the area. Probably the best in town but the bar is low. |
66 /100 Londis Woolacombe (Grocery Store) WEST ROAD Never thought I would add a Londis to RateBeer, but it does seem to have the best range from independent breweries and cider producers in town. A fair amount of regional cider, and plenty of real ale and 'almost-craft' pale ales, some in the fridge. It's well-situated in the centre of town, and is almost always busy with holiday-makers / surfers getting groceries. We grabbed a couple of chilled ciders and some picnic items and sat on the golf course in the shade. |
