“Visited 5/12/2015. Country pub about 4 miles from Wells which, as Boudicca notes, from the outside looks rather functional. However, inside it’s multi-roomed with a 1960s look and inviting wood fires in winter. The pub has been in the same family for decades and has real character. Beers are served straight from the barrel and in good condition. Food was cheap and pleasant. Well worth making the effort to visit. Just about possible to get to by public transport if you catch Bristol to Wells bus 376 and then walk along the road for 20 minutes or so.“

“The Hunters Lodge is a classic throwback – it doesn’t look as if it’s changed for years. From the outside it’s grey, pebble dashed and quite unimposing whilst inside it’s rough and ready but homely. There’s a flagstone floor and a tiled fireplace dating from, I’d say, the 1930s or 40s. There are five barrels and the beer and cider is served directly from the cask. They were doing a roaring local trade on a cold and wet Sunday lunchtime. (Visited 23 September 2012).“
