64 /100 MARKET STREET Newly reopened Black Country Ales pub in the heart of the village. From the station follow the road down to the main Stafford – Wolverhampton road. You will come out opposite a small “square”. Cross the road and walk down the right hand side of the square, and the Horse & Jockey is on the corner.
Entrance from the street is a bit inconspicuous, and you seem to emerge in the middle of a room. I suspect there is a larger entrance from the beer garden at the rear, but I’ve ont explored that far yet. From the entrance the bar is a few steps ahead round a corner to the left. The whole place seems to be a mass of interconnecting areas separated by large pillars. Much of the place is in BCA house style (white and dark blue painted walls featuring old local photos, dark red upholstered bench seats around the perimeter), but there are also areas with patterned wallpaper and carpets.
The bar has 2 handpumps, the three BCA “core” beers, teo ciders and seven guest beers. These are shown on a large TV screen, but it has been known for that list to bear little relation to what is actually available. Best to check on the bar.
Food is the usual BCA selection of cobs.
A typical BCA pub with a decent enough selection and a welcoming atmosphere.

80 /100 Littleton Arms (Bar) ST MICHAELS SQUARE Good range of cask beers and a mini craft beer bar where you can purchase cans/or bottles for drinking in or out ( different prices for each ) Although the selection is limited you can buy 6 for £20 and they provide a cardboard container for you to take them home. The food is excellent as is the service. Highly recommended. |
70 /100 Littleton Arms (Bar) ST MICHAELS SQUARE Rather a smart hotel on the main road through Penkridge, but popular with drinkers and diners alike. There were 6 Real Ales on when we visited, all in very good condition and well served. Possibly not easy to find a table if just drinking, but we just moved the dining paraphenalia. When we did eat it was very decent too. Well worth a look. |
