60 /100 Flying Horse (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL Visited February 2023.
Large place with lot of seating. Nothing too fancy but good for a pint before the flight.
Next one please! |
66 /100 Red Lion (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, NORTH TERMINAL Reasonable selection of cask beers, thankfully wasn't too busy on a Sunday lunchtime |
50 /100 Red Lion (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, NORTH TERMINAL Ultima pinta en el aeropuerto. |
62 /100 Nicholas Culpeper (Bar) LANDSIDE, NORTH TERMINAL So this is just a stand, not even a joint, but they have their own cool cellar under the airport from which to draw from the cask (Greene King.)
I have to admit that after your flight hours tiredness, getting to the not so fancy North Terminal and getting some pumped cask marque real ale is a nice treat from London (well, Gatwick) to welcome you. Keep it up. |
60 /100 Flying Horse (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL Pub dentro del aeropuerto terminal soth, bien para tomarse las ultimas del viaje. |
36 /100 Red Lion (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, NORTH TERMINAL Came here on 7.2.2020. Only positive here is that they have Punk IPA, but too many negatives: internet does not work, no table service, loud, .... disappointing how Wetherspoon developed over the last 10 years. |
64 /100 Flying Horse (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL Visited in November 2019 for a pint and a quick meal. Airside bar, and as most airport bars not really that cosy with people coming and going in an endless flow. Large place with a long bar and lots of seating. Selection was a bit basic with mostly industrial Lager and a few nice cask options. Service was prompt and the greasy food came fast. Mandatory for your flight to and from Gatwick. |
50 /100 Red Lion (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, NORTH TERMINAL Visited 26/6/2019. Incredibly busy. Poor beer selection. Hard to get served (though not because staff weren’t trying). Better options upstairs unless you’re with the stag perhaps. |
54 /100 Beehive (JDW) (Bar) LANDSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL With a late arrival from Tromsø it was perfect to find this one on the first floor just outside the custom exit. It is always a pleasure to start a trip to the UK with a few real ales. We got what we wanted, a few halves cask ales before closing time at 23:00. This is a rather is rather small sized JDW with six cask ales, four of them rotating. Airport prices. Polite service. (Visited with Leif, Per and Magne 09.01.2019). |
52 /100 Flying Horse (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL Visisted 11.01.19 with EE after tour to 22 southern counties. Five ale on cask, all served with sparklers. A spandard spoon airport pub. Still a miles better than the aiport bars only serving eurolagers. |
56 /100 Beehive (JDW) (Bar) LANDSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL Visited 21.10.18 and with TT 23.08.19. Six beer engines, of which two were «available soon». Several kegs of shitty, industrial lager and three kegs of drinkable beer. Free of background music, making a relaxed atmosphere. Quick service. They also do food. One of the better JDW airport pubs. |
58 /100 Red Lion (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, NORTH TERMINAL Very crowded, ques everywhere. I had a keg pint, Trumans Roller IPA. They also have cask ales, but nothing interesting on when I was there. |
50 /100 Nicholas Culpeper (Bar) LANDSIDE, NORTH TERMINAL Most interesting about them being the only micro gin distillery in the world located in an airport, but they also have a couple cask ales and some kegs. I had the Greene King Back of the Net, which was "off" at 08:00 a.m., despite the Cask Marque sign. The other handpump was not in use that morning. Their gin was good though. |
66 /100 Beehive (JDW) (Bar) LANDSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL Let's begin at the beggining: this is an airport pub. So my rating includes that and what it means: it's going to be crowded, there are going to be EDT screens, waiters are going to be having hell from costumers that will never come back again, etc. All that included, this is the best Gatwick joint I've been to: wide and comfy, dim-lit, nice-smelling food, good selection of beers (including some international ones), and a nice view over the south terminal concourse. All in all, a nice venue to have a last cold one before you fly -or to grab the first right after you've arrived. You know, just to rehydrate yourself. |
60 /100 Beehive (JDW) (Bar) LANDSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL Strangely my rating disappeared for this one... so second time lucky. To be fair it seems to have been refurbished and has a much more pleasant feel to it than the last time I was here (2014?), although it's the same old airport JDW formula: 30% of the choice at 160% of the usual price. However, service is extremely friendly, and the guest beer I'm drinking - Brewster's Hop-a-Doodle-Doo - is in very good condition. Not bad at all. |
60 /100 Flying Horse (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL Located upstairs inside the Security in South Termial. Std JDW, nice place, good selection, 45 Tap and about 30 bottles. Good service and nice food. Visited 09.01.2018. |
54 /100 Beehive (JDW) (Bar) LANDSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL Located before you enter the security gates at Gatwick terminal South. Ordinary JDW, nice sitting places, 30 taps but about 10 different, 20 bottles. Nice food, nice atmosphere. Nice place to grab a beer and some food. Visited 08.01.2018. |
64 /100 Flying Horse (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL Latest visit around mid October 2017. Ate again and had a few beers again. This time some cask ale festival, so 12 or so at least taps with various cask ales. Also much speedier service this time around, and more friendly. Visited first time around 6pm on Wednesday April 5, 2017. Fairly busy, but could still find a table. Lining up at the bar is the way to go, make sure you have the table number with you if ordering food. Waiters didn’t seem to keep check on who was next, and in general not overly knowledgeable about the food menu or te beers. Have a fridge with casks and a number f hand pumps, but today nothing was connected as of the server I had. Ordered a pizza called something like "Spicy Meat Lover", it was spicy and did have some meat on it, but for the odd £14 I had expected it to be bigger than small-medium, airport issue I guess. Had one beer from draught, White Riot White Pale Ale from Uprising. Part from being served rather cold and in a glass very hard to catch aroma from was happy with the beer. Nice enough place to find if you want the odd beer or need some overpriced food if flying from Gatwick South Terminal. Could see myself score a bit higher is cask was actually available and with better service than I got on this first visit. Actually better than I expected it to be. Located upstairs, so make sure you have enough time to find your gate, we flew out of "5" and realized it was a little trek to get there as well. |
48 /100 Flying Horse (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL Airport Wetherspoon’s serving a purpose. Uninteresting selection of taps which are duplicated as you go along the bar serving 5 mainstream ales, a cider and some boring others. Serves ok food and service pretty good. |
54 /100 Flying Horse (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL Quite dull pub, but still that airport vibe makes it okay. Food and beer selection is quite mediocre, and at pretty steep prices. |
60 /100 Flying Horse (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL This is an airport bar/restaurant that is certainly better than it has to be. If this were in a stateside airport, it would be a gem. An odd mix of taps (cask, keg and cider) plus a mishmash of bottles and cans. Nothing truly special, but for a traveler passing through (or even a yank who just spent a week in London) there are ticks to be had. It is a busy establishment, on a Friday afternoon it was hard to find a table. Food, likewise, was a bit better than it had to be. Prices are pretty fair on the drinks, a little less on food. Fair place, well worth a stop if you’re in Gatwick South Terminal for any length of time. |
42 /100 Flying Horse (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL It’s a Spoons in an airport. Very busy, service was quick but impersonal. Boring cask range but a couple of keg ticks for me. But who gives a shit, I’m on holiday! |
58 /100 Flying Horse (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL So so overall. Five casks but one wasn’t pouring anything. Pretty standard keg range, with mostly macros, although I did see Dark Star Revelation on tap. Quite busy during my visit. Typical airport pricing. Adequate service. You might pick up a new rate here, but overall the pickings are slim. Still, probably the best place to have a beer at this airport. |
60 /100 Red Lion (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, NORTH TERMINAL It’s a Spoons, it’s in an airport. Fairly decent, better choice than most of these in airports. |
52 /100 Flying Horse (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL At Gatwich Airport. Quite busy and loud. Some casks and a decent bottle selection, but as always in airports you can’t expect to be surprised. The atmosphere made us move on to eat at another place. |
54 /100 Beehive (JDW) (Bar) LANDSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL I assume this is what now is called "J.D. Wetherspoon’s Bar & Restaurant" - at least it was the only JDW I found before security. Very busy when I was there. One new cask tick for me. Most people seem to eat there, I did not. |
58 /100 Beehive (JDW) (Bar) LANDSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL Quite a small selection of casks/taps, usual spoons food etc. This JDW at Gatwick is in situ before security so I hardly ever go here, always prefer to arrive early and clear security to get to the Flying Horse JDW inside. But for those maybe meeting arrivals can be a place to meet/kill some time. |
56 /100 Flying Horse (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL 21 kegs. 5 casks. OK Spoons. Even an ok canned beer. |
52 /100 Beehive (JDW) (Bar) LANDSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL Rather limited cask selection when I’ve visited so I opted for Goose Island IPA. Other Spoons at Gatwick have better cask selection. |
58 /100 Flying Horse (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL Another airport Spoons. During my visits wasn’t that busy. Six casks, craft cans/bottles usual for Spoons (Brewdog, Sixpoint). Good enough to have a pint or two. |
54 /100 Red Lion (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, NORTH TERMINAL Airport Wetherspoons, can get handy in moments of need. Quite busy during our visit. Some canned/bottled crafts usual for Wetherspoon bars and not that interesting casks. |
58 /100 Flying Horse (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL As airport bars go (in the UK at least) this is a pretty decent one. Range is more limited and beers more expensive, not surprisingly, than a regular Spoons. However, I picked up one tick waiting for a flight and spent the rest of the time drinking Six Point Bengali Tiger from cans. What’s not to like? Service was fine. |
58 /100 Beehive (JDW) (Bar) LANDSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL Visited on a Friday evening in August 2015. Popular place. Checked out the handpull situation and on London Pride, Doom Bar and Broadside on so headed toward the Windsor n Eton Republika. Service was pretty quick. Prices are typical for an airport (Dick Turpin supplied the pricing strategy). It’s OK for a Spoons but not great. Airport wise it’s a place to kill time |
58 /100 Red Lion (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, NORTH TERMINAL Red Lion is Gatwick North terminal’s main drinking establishment. It has a more modern vibe than your typical Spoons, due to a renovation a year or 2 ago. Bright and open-plan with tables in front of the bar and in the terminal space itself. Bottle & keg selection is pretty decent as with other Weatherspoon’s - Punk IPA, Lagunitas IPA, Sixpoint are usually my drink of choice here. Cask selection is more limited with 5 on offer and very rarely anything of interest (i.e. guests). I have only seen 1 or 2 fest beers here for example in comparison to the more interesting cask selection at the Flying Horse in South terminal. Food in’t actually too bad and service is very solid given how busy this place gets. I frequent this place purely because I fly to ABZ via this terminal. An alright place to quench ones thirst prior to flight, but don’t expect much (any) new beers on. |
56 /100 Red Lion (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, NORTH TERMINAL Typical airside spoons. Busy, open plan, people seeming to want to queue to get served, huge mark up on normal prices with a reduction in beer range.
Full of stag and hen crowd too. It’s handy for a beer and the best of a bad lot. |
58 /100 Flying Horse (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL Really busy Spoons in Gatwick Airport, beer range not that great but did have a couple of the Festival beers on. A nightmare to get a table as seems to be constantly heaving with drinkers or those wanting Spoons fare at Airport prices.
Convenient and might get a scoop. Think the craft offerings are better value tbh. |
60 /100 Red Lion (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, NORTH TERMINAL Average Spoons, bright and open plan, but at least they have some variety in the cask offerings from the standard range. |
60 /100 Flying Horse (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL Less casks than in an average JDW but nevertheless it’s a decent airport pub. Reasonable prices. |
72 /100 Flying Horse (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL Fly fairly often between London and Copenhagen so always visit here to kill some time while waiting for the flight. Overall its pretty decent, some good cask choices that always include the "JDW beer festival specials" - during one such visit they were advertising choices of 3rds like other JDW’s so worth checking this when you are visiting. If there is nothing to take your fancy cask wise, there is the now great selection of bottles/cans available from the likes of Sixpoint,Rogue,Goose Island, Brewdog etc. Service scores highly not because of knowledge (this is a spoons) but because there is always loads of staff behind the bar when ever I visit. Food is your standard JDW fare. Prices though for both food and drinks are more around your central London price level compared to the regional out of town spoons. |
70 /100 Flying Horse (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL Was quietly impressed with the place to be honest. Neat and tidy on my 10th Dec 2014 visit (early before a 08.10 flight). My pint of Rooster’s Yankee was in fine order and the wife’s coffee too. Usual large selection of bottled and on-tap beers that typify Spoons, just a bit more expensive because of the location. Didn’t eat, plenty of staff (unusual for a Spoons). |
56 /100 Flying Horse (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL Considering the location, not a bad place. At least the best place to get a beer when you wait for a flight. The beer isn’t that exciting, but the prices are decent, considering it’s an airport, and the interior is good enough. |
58 /100 Flying Horse (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL The place to go if you have a few minutes or hours between flights at London Gatwick Airport. Rotating offering on some of their taps, so there might be a couple new scoops for you when you return. The cask ales ales I had were served at cool cellar temperature. Standard JDW fare foodwise, not bad though. |
52 /100 Beehive (JDW) (Bar) LANDSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL The Beehive is OK as an airport bar. It’s tucked away in a corner before security and, like most airport places, it’s pricier than the average high street Wetherspoons. It has six hand pumps and had three cask beers on tap when we visited - Sharp’s Doom Bar, Fuller’s London Pride and Exmoor Gold. A plus was that they also had cans from Sixpoint as well as a few decent bottles.
(Visited 30 April 2014). |
54 /100 Flying Horse (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL Stopped in here a few years back on a very long layover. Grab a few pints and enjoyed people watching. Can’t remember the service being that great, but its an airport. Never knew it would be added to places. If your stuck waiting for a flight why not! |
46 /100 Flying Horse (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL An alright airport pub. If you feel like you need to have one, it’s good for that. But it’s very crowded and noisy and the selection ain’t too great. Not my (half) pint of beer. |
48 /100 Beehive (JDW) (Bar) LANDSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL If you have time this is a nice spot for a beer before safety control. Ordinary Spoon with ordinary selection, I liked the Flying Horse inside better. |
52 /100 Flying Horse (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL Nice Weatherspoon at the airport. Not the best selection of beers at my visit, but then I probably had my share the last week in London. Food seems good, reasonable pricing too, for an airport that is. Recommendable if you are at Gatwick. |
56 /100 Flying Horse (JDW) (Bar) AIRSIDE, SOUTH TERMINAL The Flying Horse looks very much like one of the Wetherspoon’s pubs that’s been converted from a cinema or a department store although obviously it hasn’t. It’s been made to look that way with art deco furnishings and fittings. It’s a bit frayed at the edges and a bit more expensive than the usual ’Spoons but, as airport bars go, it has a pretty good beer selection and it’s good enough for a drink and a bite to eat while waiting for your flight.
