72 /100 Bier Huis (Beer Store) 17 TOWNGATE In a tired looking mid-20th century shop unit build in a pedestrian square in the town centre, the bottle shop with taps has an excellent selection of local, national and international brews with plenty of cans from the foremost craft brewers of our time. These are on shelves all around the exterior of the room, with a bench table in the middle for those staying to sup. |
46 /100 Red Lion (Bar) 73 DEWSBURY ROAD Cosy traditional styled pub with low ceilings on the north side of Ossett, but an easy enough 15 minute walk from the centre. It's certainly an urban locals pub too with a square bar in the centre of the room, which is the main drinking space after you enter. Its two cask pumps are right around the far side, with just the Elland Brewery regular White Prussian on my visit, which suggest there's nothing really to see beer-wise in this place which you haven't seen before. Beyond the wooden beamed main bar room is the dining room, which wasn't really set-up for that on my visit, and feels a little divorced from the rest of the pub for it. On a main road but has some parking, but not much outdoor space as the smokers stand right outside the door. |
80 /100 Bier Huis (Beer Store) 17 TOWNGATE Also a webstore, ships to Norway. Speedy delivery, well packed. Very good selection of Yorkshire beers, also some beers and ciders from other parts of Britain, some international beers too. |

74 /100 Bier Huis (Beer Store) 17 TOWNGATE Great selection of craft ale . They have plenty of Belgium beers with a good selection of craft cans from north brewing, northern monk, cloudwater and many more.

76 /100 Bier Huis (Beer Store) 17 TOWNGATE Now also a webshop. Very nice selection, mainly from Yorkshire, but also from other parts of the UK (e.g. Durham). Further a small but fine selection of beers from the US, and the continent. Also cider and perry. Solid packaging (all bottles bubble wrapped) and up till now the lowest shipping costs to NL at £12.50 from a British webshop. |
76 /100 Bier Huis (Beer Store) 17 TOWNGATE Nice little shop. Small selection of German, Belgian and American beers. Some of these are a little less available in other bottle shops that I have visited. There is also a small selection of beers from other breweries around the UK such as Kernel. Most of the beers are from Yorkshire microbreweries, some well established like Ilkley and Saltaire and some are from smaller microbreweries that you would struggle to find elsewhere. Enough there to warrant a visit if you are in the area. |
80 /100 Bier Huis (Beer Store) 17 TOWNGATE Bright, airy, well set out shop, with an emphasis on local, high quality beer (North Riding and Five Towns are very good at the minute) and cider. Local spirits, too. Plenty of stuff from further afield. Friendly staff. Prices are as good as they get. Mail order is available. |
96 /100 Bier Huis (Beer Store) 17 TOWNGATE Well over 150 bottle beers & ciders. plenty of Yorkshire ones as well as far flung.
Good selection of local food products.
Prices are lower than the farm shops. |
