68 /100 Old Moseley Arms (Bar) 53 TINDAL STREET Traditional Birmingham pub that thankfully hasn't been horrendously modified. Quite hard to find tucked away in Balsall Heath but lots of interesting little rooms to explore and a nice outdoor area. Beer selection could be a be more varied for my liking but the food was superb. |
60 /100 Patrick Kavanagh (Bar) 142 TRAFALGAR ROAD This is a Punch Tavern pub just up a little from the main street in Moseley village. Enjoyed our Thwaites Wainwright. The other beers available were Hook Norton Hooky and Sharps Doom Bar. |
78 /100 Village (Bar) 179 ALCESTER ROAD Village pub in the Moseley area of Birmingham. 6 cask ales available and our Backyard brewery and Wye Valley brewery beers were fine. Food pub but loads of areas to sit inside and out. They even provided cushions to take outside for the wooden seats, but we chose to sit in a glass style conservatory for non smokers separate to the pub. |
70 /100 Prince of Wales (Bar) 118 ALCESTER ROAD As Danielbrown said. This is a traditional boozer. A monster pub that has rooms, and layers and beer gardens and pubs within pubs. Don’t come here on a Saturday unless you want to see hundreds of people. Nice beer selection too but nothing special. |
66 /100 Fighting Cocks (Bar) 1 ST. MARYS ROW, MOSELEY A nice traditional pub that serves great pub food with an above average beer selection. Might find a few odd balls here but you come for the food. |
72 /100 Old Moseley Arms (Bar) 53 TINDAL STREET Lovely old multi roomed pub which majors on Wye Valley Brewery cask beers. One central bar serves all areas. Food looked good, but I didn’t have any. Beer quality fine, barman pleasant enough. I love these old style pubs that have survived mostly unscathed by refurbishment or modernisation. Not as many cask guest beers as I hoped (only one on my visit), but a real pub in every sense. |
80 /100 Old Moseley Arms (Bar) 53 TINDAL STREET Totally unique pub, back street boozer, which luckily hasn’t been significantly updated for a long time. Good selection of locally brewed bitters and milds , then comes the food, which is outstanding Indian home cooking. Still want to get to one of their beer festivals. Very friendly staff have always made us feel like family, rather than customers! |
76 /100 One Trick Pony Club (Bar) 93 ALCESTER ROAD Formerly an O’Neills, this is a much better incarnation for a top spot in happening Moseley. Trendy furnishings, lots of space and most importantly of all - a good range of beers. Some UK craft on tap - (Freedom etc), plus UK bottles and a few US too. Not a massive selection, but perfectly acceptable. Similar crowd and beer choices to the Fighting Cocks. |
80 /100 Prince of Wales (Bar) 118 ALCESTER ROAD A reliable Moseley favourite, which has been serving up the goods for donkey’s years. A genuine boozer, spruced up without destroying the charm. Has a good fistful of cask beer, including Bishops Farewell, and a fridge of Belgian classics. Has a very large beer garden, which serves as a venue in its own right. Lovely. Well worth a trip. |
76 /100 Dark Horse (Bar) 145 ALCESTER ROAD Formerly The Cross, this is now a comfortable, well-dressed bar eaterie with a smattering of interesting taps and a few in the fridge. They also have 3 house beers on keg, which is jolly good. The meat is very good too. Another good reason to visit the very pleasant urban village of Moseley. |
82 /100 Old Moseley Arms (Bar) 53 TINDAL STREET Strictly speaking this is in Balsall Heath, not Moseley, but that’s splitting hairs. Close to Edgbaston cricket ground, this is the current Brum CAMRA pub of the year and has regular beer festivals. Very friendly, with loyal locals. Great food and welcome. |
62 /100 Elizabeth of York (JDW) (Bar) 12A ST MARY’S ROW Big Wetherspoons in ever-trendy Mozambique. A bit rough, but cheap. |
66 /100 Fighting Cocks (Bar) 1 ST. MARYS ROW, MOSELEY I drink here quite often, mostly when I’m also eating. Burgers are normally good, as is the chicken in red wine. Fairly good range on tap and a few bottles, Chimay, Duvel, etc. Good atmosphere, slowish service at times, nice beer garden. I courted my wife here so it can’t be bad. Did I just use the word courted? Must be ill |
64 /100 Elizabeth of York (JDW) (Bar) 12A ST MARY’S ROW Just off the main road south out of Birmingham, and in the heart of the suburb of Moseley this pub takes its share of business from a fair few places in close proximity. Being a Wetherspoon it naturally popular for food and drink alike and its relatively small downstairs area is complimented by extra seats upstairs. The bar manages to fit two rows of ale pumps so there is no problem with the selection. |
68 /100 Fighting Cocks (Bar) 1 ST. MARYS ROW, MOSELEY Trendy buzzing place in trendy buzzing Moseley. This is a London-type gastro-pub, replete with hipsters and a mish-mash of quirky fixtures and fittings. Pretty good selection of beers, with things like Liefmans raspberry, Achel and Sierra Nevada on tap, along with some real ales. Quite pricey and very busy, but it’s bound to be that way in such a pleasant area. Nice beer garden. |
