76 /100 Hopfen + Malz Bierladen (Beer Store) ELISABETHSTRAßE 6 This place has moved to another adres :
Elisabethstraße 6 , 52062 Aachen which is a 5 minute walk from the old adress, in the direction of the city center.
Very cool looking place, now has 24 beers on tap |
70 /100 Hopfen + Malz Bierladen (Beer Store) ELISABETHSTRAßE 6 Moderna tienda con varios grifos para tomar cerveza en el local. |
8 /100 Brasserie Aix (Restaurant) BISMARCKSTRASSE 79 According to Google maps, this place has closed. The last rating is from 2014 |
70 /100 The Wingman (Bar) ANNUNTIATENBACH 3 Trendy place with a good bottled beer selection. The tap beers are more limited and there are no draught German beers wish I'd like to see. The bottled beer selection was extensive with crew republic and some Dutch beers. You can sit inside and outside. No wifi |
62 /100 Domkeller (Bar) HOF 1 Nice old place with seats outside. They have free WiFi. A reasonable tap selection and Belgian and German bottled beers. |
50 /100 Zum Goldenen Einhorn (Restaurant) MARKT 33 Not really a Ratebeer place. Lovely old place overlooking the cathedral. 5 tap beer choices with no surprises. Come here for the view, not for the beer choice |
74 /100 Hopfen + Malz Bierladen (Beer Store) ELISABETHSTRAßE 6 Nice place with 6 taps lots of bottles and even a growler station. They have German Dutch American and Belgian bottles. You can sit inside or outside. They have free WiFi. |
76 /100 Hopfen + Malz Bierladen (Beer Store) ELISABETHSTRAßE 6 New shop in Aachen, visited today, parking can be a pain in Aachen, but there is a underground parking nearby. Selection was decent, many German micro’s, some foreign beers. and the usual Trappists. Prices were fair to rather expensive. Service was German efficiency to the max, no small talk etc... The store looked nice, especially the enamel signs. You can even just sit there and have a drink from several taps they offer. will visit again. |
50 /100 Basic Bio Supermarkt (Grocery Store) THEATERPLATZ 9-11 Rather large Bio shop, beer selection is very small, large selection of pilseners/helles etc, no real ’’craft’’ beers here, i did find a Kölsch i didnt have before, but i wouldnt drive out of my way for this. |
66 /100 REWE Stenten (Grocery Store) KRUGENOFEN 62 Typical German no-nonsense Getränkemarkt. Some local (Cornelius-Bräu, Klenkes), regional (Gemündener) and other German macros. Also some German craft beers, Belgian, Dutch (De Molen) and English beers. Didn’t check out the supermarket. |
88 /100 Hopfen + Malz Bierladen (Beer Store) ELISABETHSTRAßE 6 Brand new (as of 3 months on my visit) bottle shop-cum-bar in the centre of Aachen. The guy who runs it is clearly passionate about beer, knows his stock well and also runs brewing lessons at the back of the shop. The left hand side of the shop is pretty much a bar with 6 taps, listed in chalk on the side wall (Maisels coco porter & Beavertown Smog Rocket were among the options on my visit). The right side of the shop is bottle shop territory with reclaimed wooden shelving and even an old tuk tuk holding further delights. Great selection of old German classics and modern newcomers, plus some from further afield. Not too many UK or US options but what was there was good. Seems like this will be my port of call when next in Aachen, esp as they’re open late. |
56 /100 Zum Goldenen Einhorn (Restaurant) MARKT 33 Very traditional German restaurant with all manner of ornate wooden decorations, ancient German objects and paintings adorning every wall and ceiling. Imagine the most German-looking restaurant you can imagine and you won’t be far off. This is the place to come if you want traditional German food with traditional German beer, and if it’s sunny you can enjoy it overlooking the incredible cathedral built for King Charlemagne (which you should also visit!). Beer-wise it’s not too exciting. As food wasn’t served for another hour we hit up Parsley & Fruits a few doors down instead. |
50 /100 Domkeller (Bar) HOF 1 Rough around the edges old-school German bar that is more about the atmosphere than the beer selection. The bar itself is devoid of shiny pump clips.. instead you have a beer menu at the tables, tell the waiting staff (who are friendly, funny and fluent in English) who yell "kolsch!" or whatever you asked for at the bar and it’s brought to them, who bring it to you. Standard selection of around 10 Belgian beers, nothing exciting in the German selection. If I came here 10 years ago before I started drinking different beers, I’d have got drunk in here. Now, I prefer to take it a little easier and consider what I have. |
76 /100 Domkeller (Bar) HOF 1 Located on a square within a stone’s throw from the beautiful cathedral, this venue is a great place to stop after a tour in Aachen. It is a nicely, retro styled pub with a garden in front of it, from which one can enjoy a view of the cathedral and its surroundings. The seection is impressive forna place of this type in Germany and includes a number of well-known German and Belgian beers, the fomrer also abailable on tap. Food, brought from the restaurant next door, is quite tasty. The staff are very friendly, too. If you’re a real beer hunter who has had the basic beers from Germany and Belgium, just go there for the atmosphere. I will gladly come back again, even though it is not exactly cheap. |
54 /100 Zum Goldenen Einhorn (Restaurant) MARKT 33 Restaurant in a historic building across the Rathaus. Lots of old wood in here. Looks really nice. You enter where the bar is, to the back is the main dining area. As a restaurant it’s just fine, as a beer place this is not worthy of the addition here. A Pils, an Alt, a Kölsch, and a Weizen. Food is pub food. Worth visiting for the ambiance and some wholesome food. |
64 /100 REWE Stenten (Grocery Store) KRUGENOFEN 62 Supermarket with next to it a mid-sized Getränkemarkt with quite some local brews (Klenkes, Cornelius Brau, Lennet), some regional (macro) stuff, and a few foreign beers. Also some more modern German brews like Schönramer and Ale Mania. At the REWE supermarket they also sell some Firestone Walker, BraufactuM and Mikkeller, plus a few locals they don’t sell at the Getränkemarkt. Nice for a visit if around. |
60 /100 Domkeller (Bar) HOF 1 Visited on a Saturday afternoon. Bar in a historic building overlooking a small square that has a (limited) view of the Dom. Large patio up front. Inside is a bit worn down, noisy, ambiance between Belgian and alternative, young alternative staff that looked a bit grumpy, but the crowd were somewhat older people, not really a match imho. Bar consists of 2 floors, upstairs was less noisy, but also not as entertaining. Beer selection for Aachen is great, for a beer bar in general quite poor. Prices on the high side for Germany. |
64 /100 Domkeller (Bar) HOF 1 Nice place with a cosy atmosphere. Selection is not that wide, but what they have is fairly decent and priced just fine. Service is kind, quick and friendly. A bit on the busier side during the weekend, but like said before, its cosy and full of people in good mood. Fine place to stay after a walk around the old city centre. |
58 /100 Domkeller (Bar) HOF 1 Nice cosy place next to the Aachen Dom. Not a cellar though. You get mostly Belgian and German beers, nothing too special, but some nice things. And they serve all the Belgians from their corresponding glasses - that’s a plus. A minus for service was that the barkeeper could not tell me from which brewery their Kriek was (it turned out to be Belle-Vue). Besides that, it was a nice place. Nothing special though. |
52 /100 Durstlöscher (Beer Store) KASERNENSTRASSE 16 Small place compared to the Trinkguts I am mostly visiting, and beer selection was of course also small. I remained at the beer section rather than walk around, but from what I gathered the rest of their assortment consist of water and soft drinks, no hard liquor or maybe I didn’t notice. Prices were what you expect in Germany, except for some "crafty" beers with a price tag of 5 euros for a 500 ml bottle, I scrolled past those. Okay service. A bunch of drunkards outside, walking into the store every now and then to get more cheap beers. |
64 /100 TOP Getränke (Beer Store) ELSASSSTRASSE 139 Visited November ’14. The typical warehouse looking german drinks market.I found though some more beers that I usually don’t find in my nearest Trinkgut. Soft drinks and bottled water available, some belgian in big bottles, very expensive. The german beers are reasonably priced though. I am not going to add it as a place but the Edeka supermarket next to it had a very good selection of Firestone Walker beers plus some other craft ones, overpriced, refrigerated though. |
72 /100 Domkeller (Bar) HOF 1 Liked this place. Atmosphere more Belgian than German. Reasonable choice of beers and good service. |
74 /100 TOP Getränke (Beer Store) ELSASSSTRASSE 139 Visited today, located in the Hirsch-Center, normal drink market, but i added this because of the choice, REWE Stenten has quite a few beers but this one has a bit more. Definitely a good stop to stop by if you are in Aachen in my opinion. |
70 /100 Brasserie Aix (Restaurant) BISMARCKSTRASSE 79 Brasserie Aix is a medium-sized restaurant, which borders the Frankenberger Park located few kilometers east from the centre of Aachen. During summer time, some tables are place on the side walk for more seats. Brasserie Aix is a classy, Belgian style restaurant with warm atmosphere and stylish interior. The menu contains mostly Belgian and French dishes, but the beer selection is mainly German. In addition to the standard beers of the region (Pils, Weizenbier, Altbier, Kölsch) there are few bottle specialities, such as Schneider Aventinus, and seasonal beers. At the time of visit in June 2014 the seasonal tap was Engel Frühlingsbier. Brasserie Aix is worth a visit and one of the best beer restaurants in Aachen, though for tourists a bit too far from the city centre. |
60 /100 Zum Goldenen Einhorn (Restaurant) MARKT 33 A tradional German restaurant located at the main market squate of Aachen.
The premises are very old, but still in excellent shape. The place is above all a restaurant and hence the beer selection is quite small and features only beers typical for the region (Pils, Weissbier etc.). Owing to its location, the prices are somewhat higher than elsewhere in Aachen, but nevertheless affordable. Zum Goldenen Einhorn is a recommendable choise for those seeking traditional hearty German dishes in the centre of Aachen. |
68 /100 Domkeller (Bar) HOF 1 Scandinavian style pubs with tens of foreign beers on tap are practically unheard of in Germany. Moreover, Aachen is one of the few mid-size cities not to have an own brewpub. In this context, Domkeller is a decent and quite spacious place to pop in while in visiting the main sights in Aachen. In addition to the typically West German Pils, Weizen, Kölsch and Altbier, there some few foreign brews. At the time of visit late in the evening, the place was a bit too loud for my taste. |
84 /100 Brasserie Aix (Restaurant) BISMARCKSTRASSE 79 Really nice place to eat and have a nice beer. They have the Aachen beer: Cornelius Bräu and a lot of nice beers from all over germany and also some belgians.
The restaurant is placed next to an medieval castle: burg frankenberg, so you have a really nice atmosphere. |
72 /100 REWE Stenten (Grocery Store) KRUGENOFEN 62 Visited it today (29-04-2013), there are two parts of this shop, there is the main part, the grocery store where you can buy food etc, and it has a small selection of beers. But the other part, the ’’Getränkemarkt’’ on the side of the supermarket, actually it is under it because the parking lot runs downhill, is where you want to go for beer, there they have the main selection of their beers ranging from German beers to a few Belgians, and some other nationalities. One of the better REWE’s i have been to for buying beer. |
68 /100 Durstlöscher (Beer Store) KASERNENSTRASSE 16 Visited it today (29-04-2013), decent selection of beers including some Kölsch i was looking for, they have some non german beers like Tyskie(Polish), Overall a decent shop with a good price value, if you are near it definitely a visit worth. |
72 /100 REWE Stenten (Grocery Store) KRUGENOFEN 62 Just a typical german grocery store, but it has a little section of local beers: degraa pilsener, lennet bier and cornelius bräu. |
84 /100 Durstlöscher (Beer Store) KASERNENSTRASSE 16 Most likely the best beer shop in the whole town. They have a nice selection of fine south german beers. Unfortunately some one of the local specialities are missing, like ’Cornelius Bräu’. |
60 /100 Domkeller (Bar) HOF 1 This might be the only* place in Aachen where the choice of beers is not limited to 1 middling Kölsch, 1 mediocre Alt, and 1 boring Pils. An appealing selection of renowned international (mostly Belgian) ales and some good German lagers. Served in fitting glassware, at prices lower than in Brussels. Neither in the "dome" nor a "cellar" but nice old, narrow, intricate rooms full of students, tourists and other good-humoured folks. Smoking permitted.
* Any objections from Aacheners? I hope so ... in order to be directed to a bar with decent beers from the region next time I’ll be there. |
76 /100 Zum Goldenen Einhorn (Restaurant) MARKT 33 A cozy little restaurant in the old marked square in Aachen. Just across the plaza is the Aachen Dom. The ambiance is great, it’s a plase to relax and enjoy a German beer. I didn’t try out the food there. Great service. Overall, a great bar in the old part of Aachen. |
