“Came here on 28.10.2021. New craft beer bar in Essen with 16 beers on tap mainly from German breweries. Very good beer selection even had a Stone Arrogant Bastard in the fridge. Had a Überquell Fresh Hop Pilsner (St. Pauli), Brauprojekt 777 (Niederrhein) and a Mücke Single Hop Comet (Essen). They serve Craft pizzas made of malt and Dinkel wheat. Really good beer bar.“

“Came here on 27.10.2021. Large place with many different rooms, located a bit outside of Essen. For sure it is more on the commercial side but seems there was a brewery founded in 1896. Now their beers are brewed by the Stauder brewery in Essen. 4 beers on tap. Had the filtered and the unfiltered, both were absolutely drinkable mainstream beers. Service was super fast and friendly. I liked the over-decoration on the walls with beer memorabilia.“

“I came here on 26.10.2021. A very modern craft beer and burger bar located very centrally in Essen. 4 beers on tap including 2 Maisel’s and Friends. At least 20 bottle beers: Crew Republic, Aktien Zwickel and 5 beers from La Trappe. Burger was quite good. They only had one service person for a full house but he did an excellent job.“

“Bar/Pub a little outside the city center. Wild mixture of furniture and also a wide mixture of stundents bar, gameplace, pub quizz and jam sessions. Funny and lovely staff. Only Stauder on tap but a nice selection of about 30 craft beers, some rarities as well. Prices are fair. Snacks only. Best place in Essen (ok, thats not really a challenge...;-)...)“

“A modern bar with and urban chic inertia. Inside it's quite long and narrow, with bar seating and then small booths opposite. There are 4 draught taps and an extensive bottle range with some interesting stuff if some what pricy? The menu is Americanised burgers ribs fries etc. The waiters are somehow not motivated to give their best so service is......“

“A nice little cafe in the midst of the city, yet within a sorta-backyard surrounded by trees. Inside it's and eclectic mix of old and unique used furniture, pillows and candles .... simply an experience. The cool music also give's it a laid back atmosphere. The outside seating is in the same vain old couches and cushions to chill out in and watch the world go by. Lot's of board games and books that you can use. You meet a colourful mix of people here and you always get into conversation. Great coffee and delicious drinks, beer is mostly from the bottle and not very exciting but.... Great staff and service.“

“A Street Food Cafe & Craft Beer Bar. Located on a corner with street side seating, inside its quite modern and basic. The bar is central with chalk boards over the top showing what beers are on offer. Five of them are world beers that are quite easy to find, the other five promise some interesting "ticks". Also there is a small bottle selection that has some very good stuff. The menu is Fresh street food that is Mexican / American inspired but also wonderfully authentic from tacos, burritos, sandwiches, bowls, fries and sometimes a few more things? Great friendly staff and a cool vibe. A must do in Essen.“

“Located in a rather unlikely looking suburb of Essen, this is a large sprawling complex which looked to have a fair sized outdoor option, although that was less appropriate given the January weather. Nice old style feel to the main indoor area, exposed brick and lots of small nooks and crannies. Four beers on tap, seemed to be three standards and one seasonal. Food came in huge portions and was decent enough.“

“Modern decor beer and burger type place. Burgers were ok, chips good. Beer selection on tap isn’t that great, only 3-4 on my visit, but there is a more extensive bottle menu. Service friendly but the poor chap was quite overworked. A nice enough place but not really a must visit.“

“Located on the lower ground floor of the Limbecker Platz Shopping Centre - use the escalator at the Amsterdam Rotunda which is at the NE /(nord-ost) location of this Shopping Centre. A very welcome addition in what to a visitor seems to be something of a Beer Desert. My visit was during the pre-Christmas period and the proprietors were pro-active in discussing various beers with perhaps less experienced buyers who were wishing to purchase presents. About 10 minutes walk from Essen HBF.“

“NIce beer bar a little outside downtown. Located at a corner with huge windows and a modern, plain interieur. 10 beers on tap, about 20 bottles. Guess it is the first craft beer bar in Essen, so the selection at tap is (only) ok. Prices good as well, delicious food. Worth a visit.“

“Bavarian-style Brauhaus in Essen-Borbeck. Easy to find and always a place to enjoy a beer.The food is more simple, but very good. Small amout of "self-brewed beer" (they didnt brew themselfs). The Bavarian-style Weißbier was quite good.“

“Medium-sized brew pub a short subway ride away from central station. Not super cozy but also not as ugly as some ratings might suggest. Some high tables with stools around the bar, and in the back there is another area with normal tables and chairs. Was almost empty on a late Tuesday afternoon, shortly after opening. Quick service, didn’t have to wait at all. Apparently, you can get their beers in 1 l and half litre bottles at the moment, but not when I visited. Only one of normally three beers were available during my visit, probably the thirsty people from Essen drank everything up during carnival when there was a special offer for their beers. Their ’Keller’ was decent in my opinion, but not great. Didn’t check out the food, but the menu looked promising with typical hearty German Brauhaus dishes. Prices are absolutely okay. Might come back for their other beers if I’m in town again.“

“Now then, what on Earth is this doing in Ratebeer? @raymondwave there is no need to feel sorry for your desert of a town by putting in nonsense like this. There are no craft beers, they took about 10 minutes to tell me they didn’t have Krefeld beer. Essen desperately does need somewhere decent, full of tasty craft beers, however for the moment this isn’t it. Shame as Gold bar has a good atmosphere and could do so much more, in the same way Essen could provide so much more to the discerning drinker. “

“Bardzo dobre miejsce na polnocy Essen, tuz przy stacji kolejowej. Zabytkowy browar i zabytkowa tradycyjna restauracja. Jedzenie pyszne typowo niemieckie, szybka i bardzo mila obsluga. Drewniane stoly, swietny wystruj, sporo starych butelek z patentowym zamknieciem, drewniane beczki i inne akcesoria. Wybor piw w menu sredni ale na wynos mozna kupic prawdziwe limitowane rarytasy. Niepasteryzowane i niefiltrowane piwa. Miejsce super, polecam tam cos przekasic i skosztowac Dampfbier.“

“Dobry sklep. mnóstwo piw i wody mineralnej. Specjalna polka z piwami typu Craft. Na niej Camba Bavaria i inne mniej znane piwa, nieco belgijskich trapistów, kilka miêdzynarodowych czeskich pilsow i dwa cydry. Mo¿na dostaæ Schumacher i Uerige z tych lepszych oraz Diebels i Frankencheimer. Piwa z zamknieciem swing top, glownie kellerbier oraz Flensburger az po bawarskie pszeniczne piwa. Specjalny regal na piwa bezalkoholowe i radlery. Udane zakupy i szybka obsluga.“

“Visited the brewpub on a Monday, 5pm to 6.30 pm. Very empty. Inside very sterile and cold with no real atmosphere. Three beers available on tap, paying with card no problem. Service ok but just not my kind of liking. The food was ridiculous. We ordered Mettwurstpfannkuchen with a salad and the portion was just tiny and too overprized. Everyone could do that better with an better tasting and looking result. Totally a letdown. Will come back for their Weizen and another seasonal but otherwise just not recommendable.“

“Only a few words: small portion with high prices, boring meals made without love, boring and simple beers, beers and food too expensive. Was a big disappointment. When I was 14 years old I was able to cook better tasting and looking meals than they do over there today. Beers were boring. Did not taste a real difference between Porter and Keller. Atmosphere a bit like your first visit to the GDR could have been. Definitely below average.“

“Immer wieder besucht und immer wieder nicht enttaeuscht worden. Die Auwahl an Bieren ist vertretbar, die Qualitaet hier neben vollkommen ausreichend. Den Service kann ich nur als zuvorkommend und humorvoll bezeichnen, aber am besten hat mir bisher immer noch das Essen gefallen, bei dem selbst die Pommes sogar noch Klasse haben. Einzig Weisswuerste wuerde ich da nicht nehmen. Denn davon haben sie keine Ahnung.“

“Visisted on Saturday 27/04/13 around 1930. Fairly busy venue a subway ride and short walk from the HBF (budget 15 minutes or so). We managed to grab one of the last tables and were served promptly by a friendly waitress who spoke good English. Service was a little slow thereafter though. Mixed crowd of young and old, many folks were eating, we didn’t but the food looked hearty. Effectively 2 rooms, the 2nd being dwn a small flight of stairs on a slightly lower level, brewing coppers etc on show. Decent sized patio area out front. Just the 2 house beers, Keller and Weizen, both decent enough offerings. You can buy a "travel pussy" from the condom machine in the mens toilets. We had a whip round to check out this device but the machine wouldn’t take our coins ! Not a go to destination if on a weekend in NRW but if you’re in Essen a trip here will do you no harm!“

“The place for modern hippies; it reminds me of the Ris-Ras in Denmark, but larger; same crowd and bartenders.
Poor useless beer selection (presidente, grimbergen brune, mythos...) only bottles.
The girl tried hard to sell a beer. In the end I got an absinthe but she didn’t know how to serve it ;-)
Cool place, but don’t go for beer“

“This brewpub of the Borbecker Dampfbierbrauerei lies -very easy to find- just beneath the train station and pedestrians area of Essen-Borbeck. But there are also plenty of parking spaces just on the brewpub area. The service is very welcoming and warm, also very fast and efficient. Food is solid: Big portions for the big prices, small portions for the small prices (soup begins at 3,90 €, a pair of Weisswürste with homemade bread for 4,90 €)....overall it was little bit too expensive. But the beer was great. I asked for the seasonal and got the Fastenbier first, which was really delicious. Also the Zwickel was quite good. You pay around 2,30 € for 0,3 l of beer, which is quite fair I think. We were sitting in the dining area (comfy, dark wood but with lots of daylight), but beside that was a big pub-style area with dark wood, old bottles, dimmed light etc. where you can sit just for a drink. It is a really nice place and we plan to go there as soon as their next two seasonal beers (Maibock and Kräusen) are out in the beginning of May.“

“A nice place near the Essen-Borbeck train station. I went here under the impression that it was a brewpub. Turns out I was wrong. Well, sort of. Most of the beers they serve here (I believe) are older recipes that were once brewed by the Stern brewery, but after Stern went under, the Stauder brewery was contracted to continue brewing some of the Stern brews. Some of these beers are locally distributed (Borbecker Helles), but others such as the seasonals are as far as I know only available here. So there were 4 or 5 Borbecker beers, plus some Schneider on tap. A big restaurant, inside the old brewery. Was packed on Saturday night. Had several different rooms, some dedicated to drinking, others with more of a restaurant feel, and a private party lounge as well. I believe there is a beer garden in the summer. The brews were good and fresh. I didn’t try the food, but it looked good. Overall this was definitely a worthwhile stop.“

“This is a fairly nice brewpub in the "vibrant" Rüttenscheider area of Essen. They have two of their own beers (keller & weize) and I suppose some other NRW beers. They’re own beer can be had from a stone mug (?) or a regular glass. The beer is nothing exceptional, but it’s a nice basic pub.“

“Why I added this place is because you can get a lot of different beers from all over the world from here. All from bottles, I can’t remember if there was a tap beer, but if there was, it’s propably Stauder or König Pilsner etc. So it’s not a beer pub in a sense, but the place is nicely done and very atmospheric in a laid back way with sofas, candles and a small fire place. The beers are propably all from Drinks of the World, but it’s still a nice place. You don’t have many places in Essen where you can get any decent beer selection.“
