“Visited on a Sunday afternoon, November 2018. Cool place, strikes me as a little corporate, but nice and was quite busy on a Sunday afternoon. Our bartenders were friendly and prompt. A good variety of beers on tap and they were all decent to good. Nothing to phone home about, but we'll likely be back when visiting friends in the area.“

“Nice tap room. Nicer than expected. Was there on a Saturday night. Bartender not that helpful when asked about some beers. Nice selection. Brewery does well with ales and lagers. Will be back.“

“Nice selection of ales, the lace on all the taster glass were nice. Bartender Nathan was friendly with good service. Fair sized bar, place is a bit hard to find hiding behind the main street but large parking area. As a Graphic artist I noticed artwork on the five main beers are quite nice.“

“Pretty standard looking and feeling place. More of a neighborhood bar feel: wood paneling, long bar area, some bar tables, a couple TVs, a small "patio" area. The staff is friendly, although didn’t get a chance to probe knowledge. They have a decent tap selection for one of the "smaller guys." The fact that they’re right next to the train station is nice and convenient.“

“Big dedicated parking lot. This place is mostly a wine store, but the beer selection is pretty good. Eastern European selection is good, but locals selection quality has decreased since three years ago. Descent selection of singles both foreign and domestic. If you have questions they have people that are knowledgable about beer and are helpful. If you are going near this place, stop by it will be worth your time. Some stuff was a little old. Overall fair prices and pretty good selection.“

“Dirty spot, not well lit, weird Chinese food smell permeated, looks like stuff has been sitting around for awhile. Mostly 6 pack selection of standard stuff, a some single bottles, but nothing remotely rare or that you can’t find in the city or any other beer store. The prices were a good 20% cheaper than downtown, so that’s a plus, but not worth the drive to get some value.“

“A bit tough to find and almost as tough to get a seat as it was trivia night. Decent amount of beers on tap served by a very cute and friendly bartender. The beer was okay, might have had more if it wasn’t time to call it a night.“

“Interesting newish place in the industrial area by the Metra. Very, very clean with a smallish (12 seat) bar and a series of pub tables with a patio out in the parking lot. 8 taps with a range of Tighthead brews. I would go back. Jan says cleanest bathrooms in Lake County, and they were.“

“Just a small bar at the brewery serving its own beers and no food (but you can bring your own). Typical industrial park location but one of the nicer industrial parks I have visited. Would be nice to sit on the patio on a warm day and watch the trains roll down the Union Pacific.“

“Fantastic beer selection. Some of their stuff seems a bit higher priced by a buck or two, but I don’t go their for the common. I go for the beers I can’t find anywhere else, including at Binny’s. The staff is always super helpful and they do have several very friendly and knowledgable people. As fo ambiance, it’s very no frills, but that’s okay. I don’t go for the artwork on the walls.“

“Stopped out here during my NW suburban sojourn. Clean industrial park spot with unassuming vibe, sports on a couple of flat screens, window into the brewery. Great place to sample out the beers. They are exclusively Tighthead beers and eventually they’ll have 10-12 on once they get up to capacity. Nice and quiet spot. I’ll be back for sure. Samplers available.“

“Brewery tap room has long bar and a few tables for seating. "max occupancy" listed as 66. I counted 32 people, and it was loud and seemed crowded. All six of their offerings were on tap, and they hope to someday have (12?). They have been open a month, and in the five or six times I have been there, they have usually been pleasantly crowded. Good for them. They do not have food, but offer menus from local delivery places, and encourage you to bring in your own food. Saturday afternoons offer brewery tours, usually with the owner or brewmaster leading them. And those guys are often tending bar as well. My girlfriend says "best bathrooms in lake county". Nice guys, hope they do well.“

“Stopped by on a Friday at 2, they weren’t technically open, but they still let me in gave me a look see of the operation, talked brews for a bit and gave me a growler fill. Solid folks, all of their beers are on tap, but that’s it. More than a tipcal brewery bottle shop, they have a nice bar area, will serve you pints and shoot the breeze in front of a ball game if your in the mood. I will soon become a regular fixture!“

“Been in a couple of times, but not recently. They seem to have exploded out the craft area - and there were SO many great choices between 6s and bombers that I wound up going back for a cart. Stuff from all over the country. Wish I could visit more often.“

“I saw that this place hadn’t been rated in over a year, so I wanted to give a new look. It’s set up like a warehouse, nothing special in the layout, just shelves of product. It’s got wine, liquors, and beer. There is a pretty good selection of single cans/bottles as well as sixers, cases, etc. Some is in the fridge, most is out on the floor. I didn’t really ask any questions other than where the restroom was, so the service is an arbitrary rating. I thought the selection was pretty good, although I have not been in too many beer stores, as I just moved to the area and the old location only had one beer store there. The prices seemed pretty fair, meaning most of them matched or beat local grocery store prices. Overall, it’s worth a stop, and it will likely take me a long time to try everything that I am interested in that this place carries.“

“When I stopped by here in June 2007, I had a nice chat with Scott, the Director of Beers, and liked the direction he plans on taking this store (he also gave me a glass of 3F Black Sun that he had on tap in the back!). The store had a large, kind of old and dusty warehouse feel to it, so not so aesthetically pleasing. The beer selection was fairly large with most of the sixers available as singles (large wall of ’em). They had a solid selection of Belgians and other imports. The goal is to devote more of the store to beer, which can make this even better.“

“Looking at the ratings, I decided to stop here on my way between Flat Landers and Mickey Finns. They had a smaller singles selection. I left disappointed and did not even buy 1 beer as there wasn’t anything of interest for me here. Original rating on 7/22/07. 2 8 7 n/a 9Decided to stop by and give this place another chance. Looks like they’ve gotton more beer so I raised my rating.“

“When I entered, it seemed like a dusty old warehouse. The selection wasn’t as large as I was expecting from the ratings, but it did have some very hard to get Belgiums (among others). There was some vintage items on the shelf which made me leery to buy since it was out in the lighrt. To tell the truth, I was a bit disappointed to drive all the way out there to see what I saw. I think Binny’s in the Chicagoland Area has just as much selection as the Mundelein Di Carlo’s.“

“large selection. went there on the free spring beer tasting. that was awesome, big up for putting that on. like zeswaft said, large selection but nothing i’ve not seen before. still, i got about $40 of stuff, all bombers. pricing is very good, only $3.30 for all of the Rogues. i was hoping they’d have some behemoth but they didn’t. seems like the dudes in charge care a lot more about wine, though, which is unfortunate. Rerate: there’s a guy named Steve there. He knows a ton and shared his homebrew with my friends and me when we were there. It was phenomenal. These guys rock.“

“This is a truly decent beer store with a solid selection including plenty of singles. I was able to pick up a goodly handful of "new" brews on my recent visit. But, and not to put the place down in ANY way, I think the reviewers who treat this as The beer lovers’ Mecca need to get out more. There are plenty of fine beers stores in the greater Chicagoland area. And this is most certainly one of them.“

“A clean store that is convenient if you’re visiting Mickey Finn’s or Firkin. Nice selection of Belgian and Eastern European brews and a surprising amount of mead including the much sought after Apis Póltorak Jadwiga. Plenty of singles. Staff seemed tired but were helpful when asked. Keep your eye on the register as not all beers are in "the system" and errors can occur when the cashier enters them by hand. (Not only did one of my beers get rung up twice, but when I got home I realized that a 330ml of Dulle Teve 10° registered as a 750ml. )

Rerate: I must mention that despite an initial bad impression at checkout, I received a prompt response from Beer Manager Tony who offered compensation for the error. Ratings for "Service" and "Overall" have been adjusted.

“For the 20 mile drive there this was a pretty big disappointment, especially after the raves. This place looks more like a tittie club on the outside than a liquor store (if you neglect the trite giant "LIQUOR" sign on front). The fact remains that this place has a great selection. Let me refrase that, a large selection. The truth is nothing that is really that special or great. They probably have 300 German and eastern European beers alone. A lot of English and a decent selection of Belgians (NO Rochefort). I liked how they had both 750’s and 330’s of a lot of the belgians if you don’t want to commit to a large bottle. Domestics are quite lame. They had a lot of Behemoth still around. Didn’t have any Bell’s Stouts! Very few domestic bombers. The coolest thing I found were 3 different Jolly Pumpkins (Oro, Roja, and Calabaza). They had Avery Samaels, which I’d never seen. I only brought $50 because I didn’t want to binge, I walked away buying 3 bottles for a total of $17. I got a Lion Stout, JP Roja, and a Tripel Karmeliet. Prices were pretty good. I don’t really have any desire to ever go back here.“

“Hmm, apparently I haven’t rated this one yet. This is great for us SE Wisconsinites. It has a decent amount of stuff Discount doesn’t carry, and isn’t too far into IL. Its amazing how much time you can spend here too, carefully eyeing each bottle, wondering where to throw your money. Only 10 minutes off I-94 (each way), so worth a stop if you are making your way through on a beer-oriented trip.“

“Armanetti’s is a must for all Illinois Ratebeerians. The selection of foreign/domestic beers is superlative - like a museum but everything is for sale. One cannot leave this place without buying one or two cases of different (many hard to get) beers. My one gripe is that some of the beers sitting on the shelf are pretty old and it is easy to pick up expired beers unless you are careful. UPDATE: Tony the Manager is very knowledgeable about microbrews and his recommendations on what’s good are on point. This is a great place to stop by each weekend just to see what’s new.“

“Excellent selection. What more can I say? They have most anything that Sam’s has (save for the occassional oddball item that Sam’s somehow gets). Still, they have some random stuff that you can’t find anywhere else. Essential.“

“This place keeps impressing me the more I go to it. Today just in Dreadnaught and Founders Breakfast Stout( which I thought could only be got in MI). I swear they get 5 new Belgians every 2 months. An impressive assortment of micros and imports. I was told they would be getting Stone products in sometime this year which would push this place over the top.“

“This Armanetti in Mundelein has one of the best selection of microbeers and imports that I’ve seen in the Chicago area. Tony (beer manager) is fantastic. I just broke my foot and couldn’t go out to purchase the new Christmas beers, so he picked out a selection for me to try and had them delivered! How’s that for service? The only drawback is in the evenings when Tony is not available - the staff is not knowledgeable about the beer - but they can help with the wines. Very nice set-up. The beers are organized by breweries with the micros in one spot, macros around the edges, and the imports at the end. Kudos!“

“Bells Batch 5000; Left Hand Oak-Aged Imperial; Boon Mariage Parfait Gueueze; all the Great Divide big beers; Bare Tree 2001/2/3; Unibroue 11; Apis Jadwiga and 10 other Polish/E. Euro meads. Best selection I saw this time through Chicago, BY FAR (I also hit Sam’s, 2 Binnys, and Miskas). Hard not to get carried away, really hard. Larger, more interesting selection than Sam’s now...enormous stock of E. European beers, and the Belgian and USA micro selection is very well chosen. My #1 stop in the Midwest at this point. Update Dec 05: still pretty nice, but didn’t blow me away this time...mead selection has depleted and is relegated to a bottom shelf, Belgians nothing spectacular...very good IL selection and some nice E European stuff, but this place has lost a step or two in the past year.“

“Great beer selection tho could be expanded more. I’ve heard of people coming from out of state to go here. The first time in there 4 years ago I was like a kid in a candy store.Once in awhile you’ll get lucky. I found a couple small bottles of Belgian double that were hidden and close to 4 years old. Ka-ching,solid gold. Always friendly and helpful and they have cool beer tastes 3-4 times a year. Update. Now that Di Carlos is on there own I have to drop the rating some. The service is still super but they’ve eliminated entire lines of stuff I know have to drive an hour one way instead of 15 mins. to find.“

“Re-rate:( 3/4/06) The amount and variety of selection has taken a turn for the worse, I would guess a 35% decrease in selection since the name change. In the micro aisle the shelves are now only 4 high instead of the previous 5, with the bottom row mainly cases of above stock. The Belgian beers are reduced by 1/3 of the previous stock, with all the unique beers gone. The British / Belgian beer aisle has been invaded by a mead selection, which used to have an end of aisle display unto itself. Very disappointing, an empty shell of what it once was.“

“I don't care what anyone says, but this is the best store in the Chicago area when it comes to selection. I'm not good at counting bottles, but I'd guess they have close to 1000 different beers. My only gripe is that I'm not sure how long some of them have been there. Prices are a little steep, but the amazing selection far outweighs that.“
