“There's not much beer in Topeka, so this is only worth visiting if you've got time to kill. It's an old school US brewpub, with a nice ovular bar in the middle with plenty of bar seating. A dozen or so taps with dirt cheap flights of for about $6 (incl tax). Beer was middling at best, with a smoked helles being the standout for me. Service took a while even at the bar. Nothing special here, but not a bad spot.“

“My visit was on a not very busy Wednesday evening. I took a seat at the bar and ordered flights of all 9 beers they had on tap, starting with the lowest abv beers. First up was a smoked beer under 5% which was loaded with flavor and complexity, belying the notion that it takes a high abv to be flavorful. All the beers I sampled were solid. On the recommendation of the lady behind the bar, I ordered the highly unconventional stroganoff, which was served over mashed potatoes and had a spicy sauce and was delicious.“

“Visited on a Friday afternoon. Brewery was fairly busy. Enjoyed a flight of four beers. All were made well, with the Red Cap Porter being a stand out. Excellent service and fair pricing. Will try the food next time. Old building with a new interior in downtown Topeka on the main street. Worth a visit.“

“Nice new space, service was a 10+. They make a surprising amount of beer for such a small brewing setup, they must be working all the time. Beer was good, you gotta go here.“

“Huge place, several bars, decor was dated but intentionally so. Nice servers, good selection, mostly IPA's. Beer was above average. I would go back.“

“I’ve been to Kansas many times but this was my 1st time here & boy was it a pleasant surprise! 20 beers on tap! Delicious food! Great service (who put up w/ my 2 young boys). Wish I could have tried all of their beer offerings but the 5 I had were quite good! Numerous tvs as well so a good place to catch the game while drinking quality beer! Plenty of seating w/ an extensive food menu. I would certainly recommend!“

“Stopped by early on a Saturday evening. Place seemed fairly busy. Only four of their beers on tap. Did not see a bottle list. Service was excellent. No food, but many had brought food in. Beers were decent for a new brewery. Looking forward to visiting again. Nice interior with a very large seating area. Seems like it will develop into a great spot.“

“Stopped by this new brewery on a Saturday night. Food truck parked outside. 10 of their beers on tap. Did not see a bottle list. Service was very good and prices were very reasonable. For a new brewery beers were above average. Nice building with a small outside patio.“

“A very large brewpub in Topeka. It has a sports bar vibe. Very large circular bar and lots of tables too. It seemed pretty popular and was crowded. They a large tap selection. Beers varied from ok to excellent. I really enjoyed their java porter and a collaboration IIPA. I had a pulled pork BBQ platter, which was pretty tasty. Worth a stop for sure.“

“Just off the highway, this looks and smells like a large barbecue place from the outside. Lots of parking on both sides, although the lot was nearly full. Comfortably crowded inside too, although the place is huge and absorbed it well. There’s a large central bar in one room, surrounded by bart tables, and then restaurant style tables in other rooms. The 14 barrel system is visible when you head to the restrooms, and there are some fermenters scattered about. About half the locals were drinking Bud Light or Coors Light, something that continues to baffle me whenever I see it. They had sixteen beers on offer, some are variants of one another. They’ll do any number of taster glasses you’d want, although flights are officially four. Food is varied, not just barbecue, and was delicious. Service was very friendly and knowledgeable. Great place.“

“A cool stop in Topeka with a large bar, a goo number of TBs and a large out door seating area. Service was good despite being busy during the lunch rush. A good number of beers on tap, 10-14? Samplers were available. Food was solid but nothing special. Prices were nice. Definitely worth the stop if you are passing through Topeka.“

“I originally visited in 2010, and recently had a chance to retry. A really nice selection of beers on tap when I visited, probably 15 different available. I tried some pretty good beers and some average beers, but overall definitely worth checking out if you are passing through the area. Nice selection and sample trays for sampling all their beers“

“Kind of a fun place in Topeka with a ton of their own beers (12-15 at any given time). The beers are hit or miss but that’s a lot of fucken ticks. The nachos I had were kind of sketchy as was the bartender but I couldn’t imagine there’s a better place to drink in Topeka.“

“The beer selection here is a decent size. Much of it is not refrigerated, but they have a couple coolers with good stuff in it. There is a small create your own six pack section too. The best thing about this place is the prices. Beer is so cheap in Kansas, apparently. There were tons of good six packs for $7.99 and I picked up a bomber of Deschutes Class of ’88 for $6.99.“

“Blackbird is a cool, very chill coffee bar with a small selection of good beer and cordials for coffee drinks. They’ve got plenty of comfortable seating inside as well as a patio. There were only five or six taps, but they were all good. I ended up drinking a Goose Island Sofie. This is a very excellent place to drink a good beer and relax.“

“This is a very large brewpub in an old building off the highway. The inside reminds me of an old restaurant in the south that may be in need of some updating. The crowd here was mostly older dudes who remind me a lot of the hillbillies back home in Tennessee. The strangest thing was the fact that the beers I tried were excellent. The java porter and Galactic IPA are surprisingly good, not at all what the experience led me to expect. We had dinner as well. The menu focuses on Kansas style "barbecue". You know, that overly sweet beef stuff. I had an order of ribs as an appetizer that were decent, up to par for anything west of the Carolinas, and an eggplant sandwich for my meal. The prices for the beer and the food were very low. I felt like I made out like a bandit. Monday is $2.75 pint night, fyi.“

“(Originally rated in 2005 - re-rated to add the "Food" category and up a few points here and there, having re-visited recently). Interesting layout, lots of levels... 14 of their beers were on, which gave them enough of a selection that I couldn’t drink all of the beers that I wanted to try. The service was highly attentive and quite welcoming, both of the managers on duty heard from a couple of the servers that I was interested in knowing about the beers, and asked politely about my rating notebook. I told them about Ratebeer and they said they knew of it, and after chatting with me briefly about the beers I was having, went and got me a few samples including the Barleywine, which was appreciated. The food was pretty respectable, basic brewpub fare, but good. Music was fairly annoying unless you like the greatest hits of the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and today! Overall the beers and the service made this a pleasant experience, though, we were easily able to kill 2 1/2 hours+.“

“Been here maybe 4 times in my years in Kansas. Its a good brewpub, maybe only second best to Free State. Unfortunately, no one in KC is willing to drive out there and pass Free State. The place reminds me of a large hunting lodge with many different levels and a bit of a Miami Beach character. Its interesting. Beers are always solid, never a dud but few spectacular beers. Menu is large with standard pub fare. Service is good. I recommend a visit but after going to Free State first.“

“The food and service at the blind tiger are top-notch. Occasionally the bar gets busy and it take a while to get beer, but otherwise the place is pretty good about service. Great variety of brews, including a smoked ale (not my bag, but I’ve got friends that LOVE it) three IPAs, and many other interesting brews. I try to visit a couple times a year and refill the growler with something I have yet to tried. First class place.“

“I hit this place for dinner every time I am in Topeka. Pretty good selection of their own beer. Very good quality of beer. As far as the food goes, my suggestion would be to go with the BBQ. I have tried other things on the menu, and wasn’t too impressed. The pulled pork and smoked sausage are outstanding!“

“Fleming carries a decent selection of craft beer, though space can be a bit limited. Often the aisle are filled floor to ceiling with beer. Most of it is unfortunately not refrigerated, but the selection is still among the best in Topeka. My go-to store when I’m in the area.“

“OK brewpub atmosphere that is more Midwest steakhouse than anything else. They usually have a large number of things on tap, but wheat beers make up a larger than usual percentage. But what do you expect, you’re in Kansas!“

“The Blind Tiger in Topeka is a very decent brewpub/micro brew. The beer is consistent, though somewhat limited. For example, when I went last there was the Raw Wheat, the County Seat Wheat, the Raspberry Wheat, and the Honey Wheat - all variations of the same basic beer. Food is your basic bar food - the steaks and burgers are arguably among the best in Topeka, especially for the price. Overall one of the state’s best brewpubs.“

“Great variety of beers brewed on and off site. Something for all beer lovers. My father loved the java porter and I really liked the IPA’s and Wheats (there are about 5-7 different kinds). Smoke can be a problem so if you are really wanting to try the beer with a fresh palette it may best to take a growler with you. Food is good too; mix between bbq and southwestern flavors.“

“Stopped by after watching the Lady Blues win a game. The selection was decent with a fair amount in the cooler. They had the most irritating door chime I have ever heard. Prices were a little high, but at least it is nice to see some decent US micros. Blown away by Lawrence, but good for Topeka. Warbird was the big surprise.“

“This place is great and doing some big beers. If you can get past the cigarette smoke, even if it is not smoky, it still has an acrid stale smoke smell to it. The beers are great and the food is not bad either. Java porter and the Whiskey stout were the top two on my trip. Service was so so, another bartender that could care less about you, was more interested in flirting with the young lady across the bar from me.“

“Stopped here later in the evening on a Saturday night. My goodness this is a sprawling place, there are levels, a room here, another level, another room, suddenly a staircase down to another giant room. Weird, but appealingly so. I only had a soft pretzel (which was good) and 5 samplers when I visited. The service is knowledgeable and attentive. More than willing to explain beers, what was on, etc. When I was in, they had 11 beers on tap, which is nice. Overall this is well worth a visit.

76 = ★★★ (Worth the visit, must for locals, and visitors with time)

I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“The place is currently being renovated so the ambiance is a bit lacking, not to mention that your choice of non-smoking seating begins about 5 feet away from the chain-smokers at the bar. We were seated about as far away from it as possible.. They had 11 beers on. I tried them all with their $3 per 4 samplers. None of them were bad, but only a couple (the Maibach and the Java Porter) stood out. The menu is fairly ecclectic, but both my buffalo burger and my wife’s chicken were overcooked. I mentioned this to the waiter when he asked how "everything" was. He seemed unphased. My recommendation is to be very specific about how you’d like your food prepared if you don’t like dry and charred. Overall, I was underwelmed. The Java Porter, however, is one of the best coffee beers that I’ve ever sampled and along with the Maibach, it saved the trip from being a flop.“

“Cool-looking old building that seemed out of place in its area. Many levels, display cases with the breweries awards, windows overlooking the tanks, and the outdoor deck all added to its charm. The beers were above average. Better than you’d think you’d see in Topeka. Service was pretty bad, and they didn’t have sample glasses available for us to have a sampler. Food was good for me. If you’re in Topeka or driving through, it would be worth a stop for a couple of beers.“

“This place is a very small establishment, around 2000 sq. feet. They are a very anti-big business domestic beer company store. They don’t have many neons by the "Big 3" companies plastered all over their windows and walls, instead have a lot of imported and macro neons and signs. With being limited on space, they do a helluva job keeping up on seasonals and stocking the right amount of them so they aren’t in one weeked and gone the other. The are always featuring a beer of the week, either import or micro. They carry an outstanding selection of micro 6 packs as well as an awesome 22oz. section. The BEST selection in Topeka!! 9 times out of 10 when I go into the store they usually have great music playing on their Sirius Radio. Anything from The Greatful Dead to Traffic to Yonder Mountain String Band.“

“Visited on a random sunday afternoon with the dinner hour approaching. An almost depressing group of regulars at the bar (not to bad mouth anything or anyone but it probably speaks more to Topeka and its location in the city than to the brewpub). I had some wings that weren’t even standard pub fare, they were worse, the ’hot’ wings were as mild as I may have ever had. Speaking of mild, that describes many of their beers as well. Not that they weren’t good, they just weren’t overpowering and favorfful, however they were far from bad. At $3 for 4 samplers I would reccomend making the trip to the rather remote and random location in south Topeka. However dispite the negative things I’ve said about the bar, they have a great atmosphere with its multiple levels, unique ’lodge/honkey-tonk’ feel, bar games, and nice big patios. Bartender seemed to have fun with the customers, not standard corporate boringness. Beers are better than 75th, imo, average at worst to well above average. Would strongly reccomend.“

“Visited on October 7th and found the service friendly and knowledgeable but somewhat distracted and unavailable. The dish my partner ordered was quite good however, the dish I ordered had a sauce on it that made it almost indelibly salty. To their credit however they discounted the dish on our tab. I’ll be back.“

“Visited again, same deal. I stand by my previous place review. I visited again for the first time in years. The best beer is still the imperial stout. Nothing too bad, but nothing too good either. A decent brewpub. Haven’t been here in a while. A huge restaraunt that I think gets waiters lost. Some decent brews on tap. A good imperial Sout got me on my way to beer geekdom years ago. The only bright spot for the beer scene in Topeka.“
