86 /100 338 SHELIKOF ST Great place and friendly staff. Very good beer but limited selection. Super crowded on the weekends, Kodiak’s only brewery. Definitely a stop to make when you’re not hunting, fishing or enjoying the beauty of Kodiak.

56 /100 Safeway - Kodiak (Grocery Store) 502 W MARINE WAY Kodiak is small. Well, not the island, but the town. When I arrived a the Safeway, I was expecting a, relatively, decent selection of beers, but I was let down. They didn’t really have anything special here. Shit, I can’t imagine why they would. It’s not like they didn’t have anything to drink, but once you’ve amassed over 1000 ratings, the standard selection just doesn’t cut it. This beer/liquor store isn’t in the Safeway, as none of the beer/liquor stores are that are in Alaska, but connected to it. The store was a little dingy, and didn’t have a great selection, but I was in Kodiak, and not expecting much anyways. If you need beer, obviously, they sell it, just don’t expect the selection to blow you away. |
74 /100 338 SHELIKOF ST First person to have made it out here on Ratebeer, I see. I ’m not sure what type of business this used to be, prior to Kodiak Island having occupied the building. Taps are up and to your right, as you walk in. They have some fairly cool glassware, but not much of it, in terms of variety. T-shirts, and some other beers items are strewn across the walls. Beer is REALLY good on average. I brought co-workers here, and they loved it; even co-workers that aren’t "beer people". This place is loved by locals, as it’s fairly easy to spot a tourist. Are you wearing water boots? Chances are you’re a local. There are church pews scattered across the place (they still have the Bible holders on the back). There’s a stand up bar area for talking to your friends. There’s a place to purchase beer, but other than that, it’s a open feel. Glad to have visited Kodiak, possibly for the first and only time in my life. I’m sure once you’re here, you’ll notice the large number of bald eagles. Anyways, great experience, and very good beers, to boot. They didn’t have any visitor taps; they had ~7 of their house beers. |
