64 /100 13601 GLISSANS MILL ROAD Big place, combined w a winery. Lots of outdoor space, family friendly, big indoor tasting room, VERY crowded. wish the beers were a tich better. good service. |
62 /100 8601 MAPLEVILLE RD Grown a lot since the early days. Now a sprawling farm brewery in Mt. Airy, with a large inside tasting area and a HUGE and varied outside space. Plus, when I was there they had 4-week old baby goats and I got to bottle feed one.
If only the beers were as nice as the space. They range from pretty good to pretty mediocre. |
80 /100 Mount Airy Liquor Store (Beer Store) 413 E. RIDGEVILLE ambiance: Fine location in a strip shopping center; store is packed to the gills but navigable. Pretty typical feel. service: Tremendous. Came to fill three growlers, and the guy who helped me was great. Took me to the fill station and a tour of the 12 taps. Let me taste everything I wanted before selecting, then filled them and brought them to the front while I shopped the rest of the store, then carried them out to the car for me. The rest of the staff seemed friendly as well. selection: Not my usual county, so plenty of stuff I don’t normally see. Plenty of standard macro and craft fare, a few singles, and a few items that seemed on the rare side. Not earth-shattering, but probably the best in town. value: Pretty middle of the road. Some stuff on the cheaper end, some on the higher. Nothing that made me surprised in either direction. overall: Worth a visit for the growler station, which had some definite local rarities (the amazing Monocacy Gose of Althea for one) and for the friendly staff. Would come again. |
80 /100 8253 DOLLYHYDE RD Bucolic setting in the Maryland countryside. The taproom has a clean, light, airy feeling and outside are tables and chairs as well as covered picnic tables. 8 taps on the day we were there, including the cask conditioned Goldie’s Best Bitter. Everything we tried was super fresh. A great way to spend a quiet, relaxing summer afternoon. |
72 /100 13601 GLISSANS MILL ROAD Open renovated space, long bar, 6 sampler flight ordered, 10 or so on tap with a could barrel aged beers. Cans for sale |
78 /100 8253 DOLLYHYDE RD Nice farm atmosphere, cheese and meat for sale, along with burgers around back sometimes. You may bring in outside food. Solid traditional English style ales |
66 /100 Mount Airy Liquor Store (Beer Store) 413 E. RIDGEVILLE Decent shop with beer placed along the left and back sides of the store. Pretty basic Maryland liquor store ambiance. Wasn’t asked if I needed any help and didn’t ask for any but staff seemed helpful enough if someone needed help. Checkout was quick and efficient. Solid selection of local, American, and European craft beer. Okay prices. Wouldn’t go out of my way but solid stop if you’re in the area. |
60 /100 Mount Airy Inn (Restaurant) 1401 S MAIN ST Stopped in for breakfast on a Sunday before heading to Westminster. Located in a small plaza with a good amount of free parking. Dining area to the left and bar area to the right. Pretty small bar with no more than 10 seats. Kind of a homey lived in feel to the place. Table service was fine, not super attentive but serviceable. 12 drafts of U.S. craft beer with a couple local brews. Food was fine but nothing to write home about, at least for the breakfast menu. Not necessarily a beer destination but worth a stop if you want some grub and a beer. |
44 /100 13601 GLISSANS MILL ROAD Feels like the brewery was placed here to cash in on the tourist traffic that comes through to visit the winery next door. Cafeteria style seating with a basic long bar running around the corner. Beers were mediocre and problems with carbonation and muddled flavours throughout. Only 2 or 3 items on the food menu but didn’t look appetising looking over at the tables of punters. There is a food truck outside for another option. Come here only for the ticks otherwise scroll past. |
66 /100 8253 DOLLYHYDE RD A farmhouse brewery located east of Frederick. The front taproom is decked out in wood with a bar pouring tasters (flights available). The brewery is to the side and the space is used for extra seating during the weekend. The farm grows its own hops which feature in all the beers. I wasn’t blown away by the beers here and was underwhelmed to be honest - the beers varied from average to muddled profiles across the range. It’s still worth a look when doing the county tour. |
52 /100 13601 GLISSANS MILL ROAD Large brewery tasting room, located next to Linganore Winecellars which looks related but doesn’t seem to be. Stopped in with Travlr and nate2g. Friendly service. Decent selection with 11 different beers, though not much variety style-wise. Pricey. Didn’t try the food, just 3 options. There was a soul food truck outside that looked okay. Skip it unless you want the place tick or are nearby. |
68 /100 8253 DOLLYHYDE RD Solid farm brewery, visited with Travlr and nate2g. Interior reminded me of Old 690 somewhat. Two areas to sit in, the tasting room to the right and the small brewery room straight ahead. Staff were very friendly. Six different beers available during this visit with one of those on both draft and cask. Mostly the normal staple styles. Beers need a little work but the prices were good. Charcuterie and cheeses available for food, BYO otherwise I assume. Decent stop as part of a Frederick County brewery tour. |
46 /100 13601 GLISSANS MILL ROAD Large place attached to large winery. The brewery seemed to be benefitting from tourist overflow from the winery. Large L-shaped bar with lots of tables and a huge outdoor space shared with the winery. Small outdoor deck with tables and chairs too. Beers available in flights of six, so with 11 beers on tap, two flights covered the lot. Sample size was small at two ounces. Some beers were tolerable, most were just plain bad - the barrel aged beers were the worst of the lot, characterless and tasted like plain bourbon. Awful. Snack items available - nachos and pizza-like items. Best skipped. |
76 /100 8253 DOLLYHYDE RD Maryland farmhouse brewery. Flights available, great setting (as long as the weather is great), good beer. Bring your own food; no options otherwise. Will be back. |
78 /100 8253 DOLLYHYDE RD It being a Sunday, I figured we’d have a hard time getting to any breweries later in the afternoon, but thankfully this one was open until 6. It’s a bit in the middle of nowhere, similar to other farm breweries I’ve been to lately. At the crest of a hill, it overlooks a beautiful countryside. Nice tasting room, plus seating in what I assume is the brewery. Prices were very nice for a flight and pints. Cask beer was nice. Staff/owners were a joy to chat with. Most of the beers were good. They had some food/charcuterie, but didn’t eat anything. Probably worth a trip back in the Spring when it has warmed up a bit. |
70 /100 Mount Airy Liquor Store (Beer Store) 413 E. RIDGEVILLE Stopped in while visiting family back home. Decent little spot in a strip mall next to Walmart. More wine and liquor than beer but plenty of six packs and a nice can selection in the coolers. A small amount of bomber singles including the usual suspects like Stone, Bruery, some Belgain selection, Rodenbach, and so on. Not huge but probably the best spot in town. Prices were pretty fair. I didn’t leave with anything, but much better choices than when I used to live here. |
76 /100 8253 DOLLYHYDE RD A nice farmhouse brewery situated in a rural area in western Maryland with rolling hills and plenty of scenic farmland in every direction you look. Tasting room is small, but captures the farm essence and additional seating is available in the brewing area as well. Family run business and the owner/brewer is very passionate about his craft and loves to talk beer with patrons. Usually only 3 to 5 on tap at a time, but they’re all well done and good interpetations of the respective styles. Meat and cheese plates are available for food, but you’re also allowed to bring in pizza or other foods, which is what we opted to do. Great place to hang out and is certainly becoming a popular place for locals to gather. |
76 /100 8253 DOLLYHYDE RD Milkhouse Brewery is located part way between Baltimore and Frederick, off the interstate a bit, but the country road drive is calming. They sit atop a small hill with parking for a dozen or so. The interior is warm with wooden walls and wooden tables. There were 6 house beers available with 1 also on Nitrogen and 1 available also via Cask. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. There are growlers and bombers available to-go, along with meat and cheese available for purchase while you enjoy their very good beers. This is worth the time to mosey out here and visit. |
78 /100 8253 DOLLYHYDE RD Visited this afternoon, a 25 minute drive east of Frederick. Busy place when we went, 5 beers on draft and 1 on-cask. Decent beer all around. Well laid out tap-house around the brewery, scenery of the farm around the building. Owner and staff were very nice and social. Overall great experience, check out this small operation if you’re in the area. |
54 /100 13601 GLISSANS MILL RD This is a large, slick commercial operation with a huge shop selling wines, lined with countertop bars for wine tasting, an events hall next door, and a large outdoor patio as well as picnic tables on the expansive lawn. You pay for the wine tasting, which i cludes one mead and a tej at the end. But when we said we were interested in the mead only, they said no charge. Both were just OK; and I can’t comment on the wines. The rating here is just for the mead portion of the operation (i.e. Low selection score). So basically, come here for the wines. If your interest is meads only, you might be better off trying Catoctin or some of the others in the area. |
56 /100 8601 MAPLEVILLE RD Two barrel system in a garden shed, really, next to a barn, right in the middle of farm and vineyard country, a nice setting. Owner and brewer Adam was very friendly, and also had good advice for other beery things to see and do in the area. Growler fills only, archaic Maryland beer laws prohibit tasters. Three beers on when we visited. |
84 /100 8253 DOLLYHYDE RD This was our favorite place of a day-long excursion of breweries, starting at Flying Dog. Nice drive through rolling hills to find this modern barn-like building on top of a hill overlooking cornfields. Five beers plus a firkin, all were pretty good. Nice patio out back with picnic tables, tables with umbrellas and cornhole. Pumpkins, Indian corn and "gords" for sale at good prices that you can pick yourself. Sampler tray available, and you can peek into the brewery from the small tasting room. Well worth the drive, and there are other breweries and a bunch of vineyards/wineries in the area. |
72 /100 8253 DOLLYHYDE RD A small farm brewery with a nice newly built tasting room set atop a hill. The owner Tom is super friendly and the beers are good. Also in close proximity to Frey’s Brewing Company, several wineries and very close to all the places on Frederick. |
68 /100 Mount Airy Liquor Store (Beer Store) 413 E. RIDGEVILLE Decent selection, they have a members value pricing on stuff that changes weekly, which is nice. And the micro of the month pricing is fantastic. Basically a dollar above wholesale price on all that breweries stuff for the month. The people are pretty friendly. I’ve been to way worse places. |
80 /100 8253 DOLLYHYDE RD New place on the site of the Frederick beer festival. Very nice setting on farm in the hills with a great area to sit outside and enjoy the view. Service was excellent - friendly, helpful, knowledgeable. Selection is moderate, but understandable given what Milkhouse Brewery is. Pricing is good. All around nice place to enjoy a good beer. |
50 /100 8601 MAPLEVILLE RD Small, farmhouse brewery outside Frederick, MD. Brewery was opened 5 months ago and is still a work in progress. Owner was nice and eager to chat and show us around the property, including a tour of the hop garden. You can get growler fills at the brewery for an average price, but only one or two beers are available at a time. |
70 /100 Mount Airy Liquor Store (Beer Store) 413 E. RIDGEVILLE Visited right before closing on a Tuesday night. Pretty straight forward liquor store, beer is in the back. Decent selection of craft and local beers, most of it in the cooler on the back wall. I did not see a single selection. Service at check out was friendly. Worked for me. 70 = ★★½ (Locals should check it out, visitors with extended time) I only use the total score, not the component parts. |
74 /100 Mount Airy Inn (Restaurant) 1401 S MAIN ST Love this place for its location, food, and beer, and friendly wait staff. The place is a bit small, good selection of crafts that rotate regularly. Overall, a great place to hang and have a beer. Happy hour is long and prices are great. |
68 /100 Mount Airy Liquor Store (Beer Store) 413 E. RIDGEVILLE Decent selection, friendly staff, prices can be high, but the have a beer of the month that is usually a decent micro for a good price. They also have clearance deals often that are pretty decent on some obscure stuff. |
62 /100 Mount Airy Inn (Restaurant) 1401 S MAIN ST Good selection of excellent beers on tap and in bottle, especially for this part of Maryland. Service has been fine with at least some of the waitstaff knowledgeable about the beer they sell. The restaurant itself, which is new, is not very well kept. The beer list / special lists are usually stained and crumpled. Food has been fine, with the pizza as a highlight. Great beer, room for improvement with other areas. |
84 /100 Mount Airy Liquor Store (Beer Store) 413 E. RIDGEVILLE Have excellent monthly specials... "microbrew of the month", is always a great deal. Otherwise, reasonable micro selection, but no breaking of 6 packs. Solid store... best in the local area.
There is now a limited single section. Would be great if this was increased in size / selection. |
