68 /100 Crooked Pint - Apple Valley (Restaurant) 15668 PILOT KNOB ROAD Kinda a cool building, lots of space and wood work. Nice play to watch a game with many TV’s. Service was alright nothing to complain about. Lots of taps but my biggest complaint is half the tap list was labeled as rotator. That just seems lazy and/or cheap to me. Litterally need to go up to the bar to see whats all on tap. Also big pet peeve in moderating ketchup, no comdiments on the table. Food was pretty good though. Wouldn’t go out of my way to return. |
68 /100 Crooked Pint - Apple Valley (Restaurant) 15668 PILOT KNOB ROAD Stopped in for the first time today after passing by this place hundreds of times. It was a fairly typically restaurant / bar setup, but did have a retractable roof that was cool. The tap list was solid and was mostly local breweries like Surly, Summit, Indeed and Schell’s; with one offs from 612, Bent, and others. Prices were $5-7 per pint, so pretty standard. Service was fine, though the tap list was not current and only listed rotator for many. You had to ask the waitress or physically go up to the bar to know what was each rotator. Plenty of parking available and across the street from Apple Valley Liquor 3, which is one of the best beer stores in the south suburbs. |
82 /100 The Valley Tap House (Restaurant) 14889 FLORENCE TRAIL Very quickly became my favorite bar/restaurant when I moved to the area. Great selection of beer and awesome food. Go for one of the pit sandwiches, they can’t be beat. Good happy hour prices and as others have said, they offer flights. You can even choose which beers you want in your flight. Can’t say enough good things about them. |
60 /100 Apple Valley Liquor #2 (Beer Store) 14261 ESSEX AVE Typical liquor store like #1, haven’t been there since #3 came out. |
66 /100 Apple Valley Liquor #1 (Beer Store) 7525 W 148TH STREET Haven’t been here in quite a while, just a typical liquor store with OK pricing. |
82 /100 Apple Valley Liquor #3 (Beer Store) 5470 157TH ST W My go to store for a quick fix, usually has the usual Surly beers to feed the need. Has a nice assortment of bombers but has a weak build your own 6 pack. |
68 /100 Old Chicago - Apple Valley (Restaurant) 14998 GLAZIER Had a lot of beer options in the beginning, starting to run out of options and the price usually deters me. Their happy hour food is usually a pretty good deal, as well as their $3 Surly pints. |
70 /100 The Valley Tap House (Restaurant) 14889 FLORENCE TRAIL Took a stop here for my birthday to see if they still had some Surly Bitter on tap. The flights were a good deal and ended up trying about 9-10 beers that I had not had before. |
70 /100 The Valley Tap House (Restaurant) 14889 FLORENCE TRAIL Bit of a themed chain restaurant feel to it, but the ambiance is alright. Food was good and well priced. Beer selection was above average for the suburbs, with flights available. Glass wear is questionable. I was served a pint of Surly Cynic, though my ’10 oz’ pour of Double Bubble was in a stemmed glass. 30 odd taps with some decent selections. All beers $3 Mon-Fri for lunch. Very sweet deal. |
70 /100 The Valley Tap House (Restaurant) 14889 FLORENCE TRAIL Sister location to the Lyndale Tap House - this one in the south metro. Finally, we are getting a few south side options for beer! Nice tap lineup of around 30 beers, with some really good options in here. Stone, Goose Island, Tyranena, Bells, Rogue, Boulevard, New Belgium, Flying Dog....good stuff. Flights of four 4-oz pours for $5. My service was great as well. |
14 /100 The Valley Tap House (Restaurant) 14889 FLORENCE TRAIL The service was terrible. Every order was messed up. My food had hair in it and the manager was a jerk. Never going back here again!! Stay away!!! |
72 /100 The Valley Tap House (Restaurant) 14889 FLORENCE TRAIL Stopped in 12/20/11 - decent set up with the bar on right hand side and restaurant on left. 30 taps and some bottles but I didn’t really focus on that since I saw they were offering flights (4 - 4 oz. pours) for $5. Happy hour is pretty sick, 1/2 off apps and 2 for 1 tap beers. Solid selection of Stone, Lagunitas, Goose Island, Summit, Bells, Flying Dog, New Belgium, etc. A nice alternative to the Old Chicago down the street. Food looks really good, though didn’t eat on this trip. Also, same owners as the Lyndale Tap House. |
78 /100 Apple Valley Liquor #3 (Beer Store) 5470 157TH ST W Big box Municipal Store. Nice wine section and large walk in cooler where they keep the macro cases. Which means more cooler space for 6 packs. Best selection for a municipal store that I’ve found out here.
Good pricing, decent selection. Won’t rival a private store like Blue Max/Zipps...etc...but do a decent job of bringing in new beers and having a diverse selection. |
70 /100 Old Chicago - Apple Valley (Restaurant) 14998 GLAZIER I’m a fan - love the pizza, which has great buttery crust. Sports on the TVs. And loads of beers, even if most aren’t very high end or rare, you can usually find a couple that are worth ordering. |
60 /100 Apple Valley Liquor #2 (Beer Store) 14261 ESSEX AVE Smallest of the 3 AV liquor stores, but decent craft selection. Good place to go if you live in the area. No reason for a special trip though. |
58 /100 Apple Valley Liquor #2 (Beer Store) 14261 ESSEX AVE One of the 3 municipal liquor stores in Apple Valley, MN. This would have the least craft beer selection of the 3 (Apple Valley #3 is the best, then Apple Valley #1, then this place). Still, pretty decent selection. Didn’t see any mix-and-match 6-packs. Pretty good variety of craft beers, but nothing extremely out of the ordinary. Friendly staff. |
80 /100 Apple Valley Liquor #3 (Beer Store) 5470 157TH ST W Hella good store! Beautiful store/ambiance inside, very classy looking. Great selection of beers, and they are arranged very attractively in coolers and wall shelves. Pretty small selection of 12-oz singles, and the prices are average I would say. Nice spot! |
80 /100 Apple Valley Liquor #1 (Beer Store) 7525 W 148TH STREET Location is at corner of Cedar and 42, but it is in a strip mall that may be hard to notice. Great service, Scott was very helpful and spent quite a bit of time chatting about beers. The AV stores have improved greatly over the years. They now are doing tastings and have redesigned the craft beer layout. |
64 /100 Apple Valley Liquor #1 (Beer Store) 7525 W 148TH STREET Pretty solid store - decent selection of bombers and 6-packs, and a larger shelf of imports. They keep their beers on shelves and in coolers. Not much in the way of 12-oz singles, or anything terribly rare, but they’ll have most of the more common craft brews that the distributors are kicking around. I did find some goodies like Unibroue 2004 Edition, Sierra/Dogfish Life & Limb, and about five Dieu du Ciel brews. |
72 /100 Apple Valley Liquor #3 (Beer Store) 5470 157TH ST W Overall this is a solid store. It’s out a ways from the city itself, so it’s not a place I’d stop by that often, but it’d certainly be a good spot to travel to in order to pick up beers that would be sold out at other places. The selection is good, and there were actually some beers here that I hadn’t seen elsewhere. Singles selection is lacking, so that led to some points being deducted. In sum, this store is pretty good, and I would certainly visit again. |
86 /100 Apple Valley Liquor #1 (Beer Store) 7525 W 148TH STREET This place is pretty great for craft beer. It’s a little snug but that’s because there is so much stuff to fit into the store. Nice selection of bombers and craft brews (shelf and in coolers). I asked someone to help find some lucky bucket and the guy took me right to it. Also showed some similar beers to what I was purchasing in case I wanted to try something different as well. Have most of the new to the market brews, as well as the stand-bys. Price point is on par with the metro area. |
58 /100 Old Chicago - Apple Valley (Restaurant) 14998 GLAZIER Okay selection, okay food, but not a craft beer destination unless you live in the area and want to visit somewhere close.
Back again November 23, 2011 and it was better than my previous experience so ratings went up. Pizza is much better than the calzones and there were some decent beer options. |
82 /100 Apple Valley Liquor #3 (Beer Store) 5470 157TH ST W A great place to get craft beers with very good prices. Selection continues to get better and the beer guy Greg is awesome. As the selection has grown and diversified, I have noticed an uptick in prices. Best beer store in the area and probably second best in the south metro behind Blue Max. |
100 /100 Apple Valley Liquor #3 (Beer Store) 5470 157TH ST W This new store is Awesome! Best beer and wine selection in the state. Huge cooler with all the micros and Belgiums one could want. A walk in beer cave with all the domestic swill, plus a long warm beer wall with tons more. The wine selection takes up half the store too. A must stop shop for any beer/wine connoisseur. Blue Max who??? No need to shop there ever again, better selection and price at this gorgeous store. |
88 /100 Apple Valley Liquor #3 (Beer Store) 5470 157TH ST W They have a very nice selection of craft beer and very good service to go along with it. The beer selection can differ, but they usually have the Surly usuals, and a varietal when available, as well as Stone, Brooklyn, and Alaska. Pretty good at getting in the newer brews when they come in to the state as well as maintaining the local brews. Have some glassware as well, although I haven’t purchased any yet or looked through it too hard. |
46 /100 Old Chicago - Apple Valley (Restaurant) 14998 GLAZIER Guess the folks here think bottle beer
ages like French burgundy.I kicked back
4 different ones that were way past the exp. date on the bottle and went with a Bell’s on tap.Hoe-hum frozen pizza for big $$$.I have been to the Old Chicago in Eden Prairie and this one is a big disappointment. |
72 /100 Apple Valley Liquor #1 (Beer Store) 7525 W 148TH STREET classy atmosphere, nice selection of craft beers - perhaps the best prices in the entire mpls st.paul metro area. much cheaper than blue max about a mile away, although max is the king for selection. |
68 /100 Apple Valley Liquor #1 (Beer Store) 7525 W 148TH STREET Paid a quick visit...not a bad beer store by any means, but nothing to make me think ’wow, I really need to go back here next time I’m up here’...had the standard Surly fare, and a few different Belgians. Remember seeing Celebrator Doppelbock, some Avery goods, and other nice beers...friendly folks at the register as well. Good place for a quick visit to grab some decent brews! Bonus point for carrying The Onion! |
82 /100 Apple Valley Liquor #1 (Beer Store) 7525 W 148TH STREET Very attractive place to buy liquor. Friendly staff combined with an above average selection make a great place to visit consistently. |
62 /100 Old Chicago - Apple Valley (Restaurant) 14998 GLAZIER great beer selection, nice round the world tour, nice location with outdoor seating |
34 /100 Old Chicago - Apple Valley (Restaurant) 14998 GLAZIER If you like mainstream, popular sports bars, then you will like Old Chicago. The food is average for a sports bar; bland, pre-packaged, and over-priced. The selection of beers is relatively good. There are a large number to choose from. However, many are staled from lack of sales and improper storage. Also, the selection is mostly from popular lines. Genuine micro brews are beers are not available.
The service at Old Chicago results from cultural myopia. The staff suffer from arrogance and contempt; not good qualities in a service industry. Having difficulty deciphering the beer selections or wondering if something is currently available, the staff will certainly attempt to make you feel like you are stupid and unwelcome.
If you are looking for a large selection of main stream, macro beers, mediocre food, and narrow-minded company, then Old Chicago is the place for you. If your IQ is above 65, you don’t drive a pick-up truck or you make more than $20k per year, spend your money elsewhere.

64 /100 Old Chicago - Apple Valley (Restaurant) 14998 GLAZIER Visited here most recently in August ’05. Like the Roseville location, has a good selection of midwestern beers for an out-of-towner looking to rack up some ratings. Always seem to have something new on tap or in bottles and they have a big sign promoting it - so you are not fumbling around asking the waitress - "what do you have on tap and in bottles? " Food is decent and the service is friendly. Lots of choices from the menu. Family style restaurant in the style of a Chil’s or TGI Friday’s but with a decent beer selection. |
48 /100 Old Chicago - Apple Valley (Restaurant) 14998 GLAZIER The service at this Old Chicago was definatly not very good. Even the food wasn’t as good as the othe rlocations. Our deep dish pizza reminded me of Pizza Hut fare and my fiances calzone wasn’t fully cooked. I wont be visiting this one by choice again. |
