| 58 /100 21 SECOND ST “We came here on 20.12.2019. Was our 3rd stop on the way to Vermont. Dark brewpub with long bar and a sizable restaurant area. Brewhouse is visible through windows to the right. 12 beers on tap. We tried the two NEIPA, both were good. Food was ok. Service was not very friendly.“ |
| 58 /100 23 W UNION STREET “(Visited 07/2015 during Ohio Brew Week): The Athens BW3 is conveniently located right across from Jackie O’s on Union. Metered street and garage parking is available in the surrounding blocks. The interior is pretty much the same as other locations of the chain. Pretty large with a couple different rooms and the bar in the rear. Typical sports bar decor. The tap list at this location is a little better than most other BW3s, most likely due to the rising tide of other beer bars on campus. They also participate in Ohio Brew Week which is nice, and means they feature Ohio breweries. Of the 15 or so taps, they will have handles for breweries like Great Lakes, Mt Carmel and Rhinegeist. Some bottles too with a couple craft breweries included among the macro stuff. Service on a slow weekday afternoon at the bar was good. The bartender was friendly and had a good awareness of OBW and the beers. I did not try any food on this visit, but imagine it is on par with other locations. Overall I wouldn’t bother visiting a place like BW3 in a beer town like Athens on its own merit, but it is worth the stop at least as far as their participation in OBW goes.“ |
| 84 /100 21 SECOND ST “I stopped in for a visit on my way home from a business meeting in Albany. Athens is a little upstate NY town that time seems to have forgotten. The brewpub is warm and inviting and thankfully isn’t overwhelmed with tv’s in every open space. I sat at the bar and ending up having an enjoyable conversation with some local folks while I was there. The food was very good and served promptly. They had a nice selection of their own beers on tap as well as a few bottle offerings. I will definitely stop in as time allows when I travel upstate. This place is a keeper!“ |

Placed was filled with locals and staff was excited that we were visiting and interesting in sampling everything on tap. Good number of house beers on tap and pricing was good as well. None were exceptional, but most were very good. Food was also delicious and fair priced. Overall a cool place to visit if you happen to be nearby.“ |
| 80 /100 21 SECOND ST “Crossroads has 10 beers on tap. Pints are $5 each, or you can get a flight of six 5oz samples for $12 (that’s $0.40 per ounce). Since Jordan and I wanted to try all the beers on tap, we had to order two flights for the table. Right away I was little miffed at having to drop $24 just to be able to try every beer. To put these prices in perspective; Brown’s Brewing in Troy offers a flight of eight 3oz samples for $8.99 ($0.38 per ounce) and the Albany Pump Station offers a flight of eight 3oz samples for $7.50 ($0.31 per ounce). Sure you get more volume at Crossroads (30 total ounces instead of 24 ounces), but I’d prefer a larger variety even if it means less total ounces.
The food menu at Crossroads is pretty standard in terms of dishes: burgers, salads, chicken, appetizers, etc. They use a lot of locally sourced ingredients and list the individual farms on their menu. I tend to judge a brewery by its IPA, and I tend to judge a restaurant by its burger so I ordered "The Brewery Burger" for $11. The burger came with fries and caramelized onions. Bacon and sautéed mushrooms were an extra $1 each, and cheese was an extra 50 cents for a total of $13.50 (that’s pretty expensive for a bacon cheeseburger). Jordan is a vegetarian, but thankfully they had a veggie burger on the menu for $12. I don’t want to make it sound like I’m bashing Crossroads because I enjoyed the food, the beers were tasty, and the service was good. I also loved the atmosphere of being in the village saloon and the vintage décor (it was originally a 19th century opera house) Still, the evening wound up costing me $62 which is much more than I usually spend on a dinner for two. However, since Crossroads Brewing is probably one of the only restaurants in the village of Athens, and the only brewpub between Kingston and Albany, I think I understand their prices. “ |

Located in the old opera house in the center of Athens, Crossroads Brewing Company opened about a year ago.
Only their beers on tap are available. Their beers are good and usually have a nice selection of styles to choose from. Growlers to go. New York State wines and their own sodas.
The space is still under going renovations, hence no food... but gladly bring your own for now.
The reneovations that have been done make this place shine. Large open tavern, through the veiwing glass you can see the buisness end of Crossroads brewing equipment.
Staff is freindly and knowledgeable.

| 80 /100 21 SECOND ST “Stopped in here as a sort of detour when I noticed it was a quick 5 miles from where we currently were. Turned out to be an excellent choice. I had tried a few of their beers at TAP NY and some places and figured at the worst I’d just leave with a growler of their remarkable IPA. Worked out much better than that as I got to do a sampler of 8 of their beers, which was superbly priced at $12 for 4oz pours of any 8 of the 10 beers they have on tap (it turned out to be 9 that day, but still good). It was early afternoon on a Saturday and there were not a lot of people there, but managed to strike up conversations with most of the patrons (two other groups of which had traveled like I had at least an hour to visit), and the bartender who made sure to tell us all that he had been a customer first before coming to work there. Easy to see why. Their beers are solid, the space is amazing, and it seems like a fun place to work. No kitchen quite yet, but in the meantime they have a food truck outside on the weekends and occasional weeknights. Food truck food was pretty good, including a house made veggie burger which puts a bunch of the commercial ones to shame. Mostly burgers, dogs, and fries stuff, but a big greasy meal after a pile of tasty beer is a good thing. Certainly worth a trip here.“ |

Update 2/2012. Plentiful dining tables. Roadside bistro truck is awesome! Taps continue to be diverse (10 plus of their own brews at all times). Stop in and experience this gem of a brewpub Soon!!!!! OK folks, the old tasting room is now defunct and a proper bar is up and running strong. Tuesday night is firkin night. Live music on the weekends. the owners are awesome and friendly. A great renovation underway in this historic old rivertown. Hutch has some real talent as the one man band/brewer. At the moment, since the kitchen has not yet opened, you can bring your own food/ pizza to watch the games. If you are in the area, or even passing thru, this great little place is ten minutes off the thruway at exit 21. Growlers to go, mug club and a great hometown feeling. Get going!“ |
