“For some reason Marietta Brewing only two beers on tap. The have a liquor bar. Dora available. Food here. Older downtown building with parking in the road. Growlers to go. Don’t see shirts or souvenirs. Lighting is dim. Music playing low on radio. Good Friday night prime time crowd. Pretty good venue, just wish they had bigger selection. Cheers!“

Spagna’s (Restaurant)
301 GILMAN AVENUE
“I’ve visited this place several times over the past year, and am finally convinced I need to add them to the site. They have 4 taps, and have now committed to carrying only craft beer on them. They offer a flight of all the beers they have on tap, plus they have several bottled offerings to boot. All the bottles they have available are on display in the entryway. They carry a good lineup of regional craft breweries like Bells, Dogfish Head, Founders, Jackie-Os, and even have mead from Crafted. All around a decent selection. The food is Italian, and is always very good. I’ve only ever sat inside, but they do have a patio large enough for maybe 50 people. For the area, this is one of the nicer restaurants and is in a historic block of town. It embraces it’s historic river town feel and creates a nice ambiance. Service is always great here. I would recommend this place to anybody visiting, whether you are a beer nerd or not. One of my new favorite places, especially now that they’ve gotten into craft beer.“

Weber’s Market (Grocery Store)
301 SCAMMEL STREET
“Visited in October, 2014. A cool old brick building with a lovely pre-war grocery store feel on the inside; as others have mentioned, the liquor store is entered through the grocery store/deli part. I found the selection of local beers to be pretty solid, certainly compared to the other three area grocery stores I checked out on my brief visit - strong enough on local Midwestern/mid-Atlantic stuff like Founders, Bells, Victory and of course Great Lakes. Not a lot of imports. Downside on my visit was that there was only one clerk servicing both the liquor department (which wasn’t busy) and the deli (which was), and I had almost a 10 minute wait in this small store. I hope to revisit this fall and give a more detailed appraisal.“

The Wine Cellars (Homebrew Shop)
211 2ND STREET
“Been here several times, and this place is a winery, restaurant, deli, and home-brew shop. The deli and restaurant portion of things are pretty good. It’s a great place to get a light, refreshing lunch. They do mostly sandwiches and salads. The deli has nice cheese and local meats. The wines I’ve had have been alright, but I don’t really come here for that. The home-brew side of things is pretty good. Whatever they don’t have in stock, they will get for you, but they don’t typically have much in the way of brewing ingredients such as grain or hops. They carry buckets, bottles, carboys, cleaning supplies, that type of thing. One thing I really like about this place is that they let you order things through them so it works just like you are ordering from a website, but this way you don’t have to pay shipping. I suppose they do this for everybody, because I hadn’t been here all that often before they told me this.“

“I stopped in here on a dreary Wednesday evening for dinner after hearing they started to carry better beer. I had go check it out. Previously the best they had was blue moon and amber bock, but they’ve made some pretty big improvements when it comes to craft beer. About half of their taps are dedicated to craft and the majorityof the bottles they have are draft as well. Everything comes in a frosted glass and when iI ordered a can from the beer fridge, they didn’t offer me a new glass, but I’ll chalk that up to just being newer to good beer and not knowing any better yet. The service was good, the bartenders didn’t seem to be very knowledge about beer, but at least they knew what the beers on tap were. They haf lots of local Ohio crafts like Jackie-Os, thirsty dog, river town, great lakes, fat heads, and so on. I ordered the famous bologna sandwich and some fries. The sandwich was good, but next time I’ll get a different side. Overall, I like their new direction and I’ll start to visit more regularly.“

“Located in a downtown business area, I found parking easy around 11 AM on a week day. Street parking and I don’t believe there was a meter. Nice looking place. Old school ceiling, lots of brick, big murals of their beers and the brewery located right above the front door and clearly visible. The staff was friendly but not very attentive. 6 beers on tap but only 5 come in the sampler, but I was told I could get the 6th for 25 cents. The samples come in 2 ounce pours. I didn’t see a separate charge and my total bill was $6.00. Beers ranged in quality from sub-par to average. I wouldn’t go too far out of my way to visit, but if I were local I’d enjoy drinking here from time to time.“

“This store does not have a good selection at all. Sure, there are some beers here that out-of-towners might be happy to find, but the selection is really poor. The staff is not well informed either. There is nothing worse than trying to talk to a person in a beer store about beer when they have no idea what you are saying.“

“They have a pretty good selection of beers. They get some good beers from Fat Heads, Revolution, Ale Smith, Founders, Hoppin’ Frog, Jackie O’s, Three Floyds, The Bruery, Ballast Point, Stone... the list could go on. I have a few gripes about this place. First of all, they sell a very limited amount of single bottles in a cooler. Those are overpriced. $4.99 for Founders Breakfast Stout. I buy it for $3.49 in Kentucky where the beer taxes are higher. Second, they do not stay on top of how old their IPAs are. I was in there today and found some Fat Heads Head Hunter is is older than I would like to buy but barely within the date of what Fat Heads personally told me the shelf life for that beer is. They also have Founders Double Trouble that is almost a year old. I know that some may like to cellar DIPAs.... not this guy. Last, and this is my biggest problem with this store, they don’t sell single bottles. Sure, they have a few beers in a cooler that are sold as singles, but they are all overpriced. I am used to shopping at stores that will sell every beer in the store as a single bottle by taking the price of the four or six pack and dividing it accordingly. I think this store would be way more successful if they sold single bottles and had someone who knew more about beer to push what needs to be sold quickly so that it doesn’t go past the "enjoy by" date.“

“A decent stop in Marietta, Ohio. A fairly large bar with TVs and plenty of restaurant space. Overall not a terribly exciting beer list, probably around 6 taps. I tried a coffee porter and IPA which were ok. The food was standard, my turkey wrap was good but nothing out of the ordinary. In all, just one stop is probably enough for me. Most of the customers are of the bud light sort and the quality of their own beers is somewhat lacking. Ok, but not worth a second stop.“

“Limited on street parking. I had no problem getting a spot on a Saturday afternoon. You have go through the market part and go into a separate bigger room which has beer, wine, and liquor. The beer is in the back. Some refrigerated, a few singles, a pretty nice variety of american beer.“

“Stopped in for drinks only on a Tuesday night. A good number of people having some beers and watching baseball on the large screen TV’s. Old brick walls and a high ceiling. Only a handful of their own and tap and they were out of their IPA, sadly. Against my better thoughts I got the barleywine which was a bit of a sugar bomb as feared. Not terrible, but not great. Switched over to one of their decent selection of bottles after that. Nice to have a place brewing in a small town like this and worth a stop.“

House of Wines (Restaurant)

“If you live in the area, odds are you don’t even know this place is around. When you do figure it out though, it’s like finding a bag full of money in an old barn. The beer and wine selection at this restaurant/retailer is the best in at least a 50 mile radius. 700 plus labels of beer and more than 3000 labels of wine to choose from (according to the owners). This place has never let me down. They always have and I’m sure always will have something I’ve never heard of but am willing to try. If you are willing to buy a case, the owner will special order something for you regardless of what it is. The two owners, an older couple, are both great knowledgeable people on beer and wine. The food is all made from scratch and is magnificent. The food can be a bit pricey but it is well worth it. The beer is priced reasonably though. Most beers aren’t refrigerated but as far as I’m concerned, if you can’t wait for it to get cold, you’re probably a drunk that shouldn’t be drinking anyway.“

“A good up-and-coming place. Ambience wants to appear like and old corner bar, but this one is pretty clean and shiny, and doesn’t quite pull it off. Brewery beers are slightly below average overall, but quite drinkable. Overall experience suggests another visit is in order.“

Giant Eagle - Marietta (Grocery Store)
128 GROSS ST
“Giant Eagle is primarily a grocery store, they just happen to carry some craft beer and several local beers like Rivertown, Buckeye, Thirsty Dog, and Great Lakes. They have some other more national brands like Dogfish Head, Sierra Nevada, Ommegang, and Brooklyn. This isn’t necessarily the first place I would go in Marietta, but it is a nice addition to a grocery store trip.“

Austyn’s (Restaurant)

“Went to this place on a date. There is no dress code but you should probably at least have a button up shirt. Reservations are recommended since there are just 120 seats available. Parking is reasonable during the week. Weekends are another story though. I had to park in a city parking lot at the end of the street about 100 yards away. The beer selection was quite a shock to me as they have several that I would have never expected of them. Service is very attentive and the waiting staff is very helpful in deciding what to order food-wise. There is a wide range of food available from Italian to Thai and it all looks magnificent. The food I ordered was delicious and plentiful. The pasta used here is actually made fresh by a place two shops down the street. If you are more of a wine person, this place looked to have a pretty fair selection as well. This place appears to be a high end restaurant but the bill did not reflect that in the slightest. Very reasonable and I will definitely be back.“

Weber’s Market (Grocery Store)
301 SCAMMEL STREET
“After finding out that this liquor store had a pretty good beer selection, I had to find out just how good it was for myself. I went there in the middle of the day. Parking is not very good but I was able to find a spot. There is parking beside the building and around back. When you walk in, you have to go through a deli and convenience store section and head to the left. The alcoholic beverages (aside from the cheap beer) are all located in a separate room that takes up half of the store. There are many beers to choose from in the refrigerated sections and then there are a couple rows of singles. The pricing is very fair. As far as hospitality goes, the only person I came in contact with was a bit grumpy. I can forgive that though because there was a local festival going on that he probably wanted to be at. This place is definitely worth the visit if you aren’t interested in traveling the extra fifteen minutes to the House of Wines.“

“The beers brewed at this place are some of the best local brews. They also brew a wider variety than any others in the area. I you sit at the bar, you will get the best service but you also get alright service at the tables. The food here is great. They specialize in burgers and they have a nice selection of those as well. Great beer, great food, and good service.“

“This place is by far the best beer bar in the are. They have the best bottle and tap selection until you get to Athens and they really seem to care about what they put on tap. Although their bottle menu is not overly impressive, you just have to ask if they have anything interesting that isn’t on the menu, and they are more than happy to fill you in on the unpublished goodies. The food is much more adventurous here than most local places as well. I had squid ink pasta the other day. Nowhere else would even think of having that in these parts. This place is definitely worth stopping by if you’re in the area. It’s quickly becoming my favorite local.“

“Best selection in the Mid-Ohio Valley. New owners have arranged the beer so you can more easily see what is available. Some singles of large format bottles and some singles of the more expensive brews. My biggest complaint is they don’t allow breaking up six-packs or four-packs. Has some harder to get stuff and most of his beer is a great value. The restaurant has really good food. Dining decor is a little dated. I have gotten some older beer that has been past its prime, so look at the date is possible. They get some AleSmith, seasonal Three Floyds, trappist, along with other highly rated beers. Overall if you live in the area or are traveling I77, I suggest stopping by.“

“1st stop on my way down to Charleston, WV and I arrived early in the lunch cycle. Quaint place in a river front downtown setting. Narrow and long interior with rustic brick walls and extremely high ceilings. The 2 story brewery rests up front right by the street/sidewalk, you actually enter right next to it. The bar area is immediately past the brewing enclosure and they have much more sit down dining in the back. A good sized lunch crowd filtered in and out while I sat at the bar and enjoyed their True Meridian Ale before my soup & salad arrived, and then onto a Weiss Bier before my long lunch stop was over. Their home made root beer kept flowing, must be good but alas I was too occupied w/ the ales to fret over a glass of fresh root beer. Both pints were pleasant, the food was nice although portions are geared toward dieting folk and not weary travelers....good thing I had a big breakfast that morning. Great establishment, and they seem to offer an endless supply of live entertainment at night much like the“

“This was my kind of place. vintage wine and liquor paintings on the walls, ESPN on small tvs in case you’re interested, a knowledgable waitstaff that was extremely friendly, and decent, unassuming brews. It seemed like all of their beer had it’s own edge or flavor, not just carbon copies of others. Reminded me a lot of Vino’s in Little Rock. Kind of divey, kind of rocking, kind of enjoying it’s own personality. Can’t wait to move here to try more of their beer and food. PS the food was superb for all in my party.“

“For Marietta, this was a find. Bells and other OH beer on tap. Large bottle list that rotates weekly to bi-weekly according to the server. Several Belgians, Bells, Great Lakes, Stone, Sierra Nevada (more than just the pale ale) in bottles, including several impressive bombers. Not sure about the tap list since I didn’t see the taps from my seat in the back. Nice atmosphere, food was excellent, but the staff seemed oblivious to their good beer fortune. and next to the Brewery in town, I think it’s the best place for micros in town. Was mostly impressed at the large selection of Stone, though I am not sure what they were charging per bottle.“

“(Visited 10/2007): Marietta Brewing Company is located in downtown Marietta on Front Street right near the Ohio River about 10 minutes from I-77. Street parking was plentiful on a weekday afternoon. The quaint building where MBC is located is really pretty both outside and in. The storefront allows a 2nd story view at the brewing tanks through some windows. Once inside there is a 2-story foyer where the raised brewing equipment is viewable from pretty much the entire establishment. The bar is located along the right side, with seating in the bar area and in a large back room. It is all brick on both sides with large painted Marietta Brewing logos. I picked a bad day to visit because they literally only had one beer available, plus their house roorbeer. Based on the board they normally have a lot more beers (obviously) so I can’t ding their selection too much. Service here was good on a Tuesday afternoon. The bartender was friendly and knew the beer(s). I did not try any food on this visit. Overall I would definitely visit this brewpub the next time I am near Marietta. Giving them the benefit of the doubt on running out of all but one of their beers, I suppose it is good news that there is enough interest in craft beer in a smaller city like Marietta to cause that.“

“As I entered, I was nearly run over by the bartender pushing a hand truck with 5 cases of Bud and Bud light. That should have been a tip; any brewery that sells more Bud is suspect. I ordered a line up of the beers and got two mediocre beers, a root beer and a Woodchuck Draft cider. That was it, two beers! One beer was almost undrinkable (Scotch ale). The best of the lot was the root beer. But, if I wanted a root beer, I’d order a Barqs. The food was OK but, I wouldn’t cross the street to eat there again.“

“July 2004 visit. Visited at 11 am opening hour after staying overnite at the historic and beautiful Lafayette Hotel down the street. Only had a small strawberry salad for lunch, but it was nice. Speedy, if somewhat abrupt service. The beer made up for it though, everything was pretty well-done except the amber, and that wasn’t bad. Not amazing, mind you, though the Scotch Ale is perhaps worth a trip for...but this is a lovely, historic town and the brewpub certainly adds value to a daytrip in the area.“
