88 /100 6462 CARLISLE PIKE Appalachian Brewing Company is in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. Their is six Appalachian Brewings in this area with the same owner. Dim lighting. Patio and big bar. Very good bartender. Food here. Crowlers and growlers here. T-shirts and hats here. Very nice place! Cheers! |
58 /100 100 LEGACY PARK DR I came here on 20.6.2021 one day after I met Jeremy and Ben again. Brand new brewery in Mechanicsburg - new construction with a large parking space. Liked the fire place at the entrance. Interior is nice but is missing character. We tasted a session IPA, a Chocolate stout and a triple IPA. Not bad but not great either. Will come back in a year to see how they have developed. Good Luck! |
58 /100 Hops & Barleys (Restaurant) 398 N YORK ST We came here on 7.12.2019. This pub has opened just recently. About 20 beers on tap, some good beers from Evil Genius, New Trail and Yards. Interior and atmosphere are mediocre and typical for an average US pub. No need for a detour, buy if you come by stop for a New Trail NIPA (Broken Heels).. |
50 /100 993 PARK PI We came here on 23.6.2019. Brand new brewpub in Mechanicsburg. Great location but very poor beers. Located on a beautiful creek with plenty of outside seating. When we came they had 3 own beers, 6 guest beers and one cider. The Saison from their brewery was not drinkable. The guest beer list was average. Come here, order a guest beer and enjoy the great view to the creek. |
58 /100 4830 CARLISLE PIKE Came here 12.5.2019. Very close to Evergrain. 8 beers on tap: a few sour ales and IPA’s. Taste of beers was just ok. We liked the stone bar, surrounding the tapping area and the view to the wooden barrel shelve. Brewery is located in a separate room, visible through a small door window. |
58 /100 Silver Spring Beverage (Beer Store) 6485 CARLISLE PK Came here on 3.3.2019. Decent selection of US Craft beers. Well organized: shelves by beer styles and a few variety packs. Only a few PA breweries in the assortment, they stock mainly the large Craft breweries like Stones, New Belgium or Fat Head. I was happy as they had Racer 5 and the Brut IPA from New Belgium. Need to check for Ben next time, whether they are selling Red Stripe. Very limited selection of European beers. Service was not paying any attention, was mainly busy with his game on the smart phone. As on our way home we will stop by in future, although there are many better beer stores in the Harrisburg area. |
64 /100 Wegmans - Mechanicsburg (Grocery Store) 6416 CARLISLE PIKE A great grocery store with food from all over the world and great assortment of fruits and cheese. The beer selection is average. Definitely you find more beers in the specialized beer stores. |
66 /100 6462 CARLISLE PIKE Came here on 8.4.2018. Quite large brewpub on Carlisle Pike - 2 floors and a merchandising shop. Typical ABC beer selection including 2 beers from the hand pump. I am not a big fan of their beers. Like the Trail Blaze IPA from the hand pump the most. Service is very professional and food decent. I believe ABC closed the Camp Hill location and moved it to Carlisle Pike. |
54 /100 Arooga’s - Mechanicsburg (Bar) 4713 CARLISLE PIKE Came here on 28.2.2018. Typical commercial US sports bar with a huge food menue. Plenty of screens to watch sports events. Roughly 30 beers on tap, half mainstream and half Craft beers. I had the Sierra Nevada Hazy Little Thing IPA: tapping quality was mediocre. You do not come here for the beer selection or quality, but for sure it’s fun to watch football on a weekend. |
62 /100 Wegmans - Mechanicsburg (Grocery Store) 6416 CARLISLE PIKE Typical Wegman;s selection which is better than most grocery stores in terms of sixers and pricing but it doesn't come close to a decent bottle shop, Service is non-existent unless you want to check out. They have a decent pick six selection but it represents only a fraction of what they sell. |
80 /100 35 WEST MAIN STREET Located on the main drag in Mechanicsburg, who knew Mechanicsburg had a main drag, there's some street parking available in the area. Place has kind of a wine bar vibe which is nice. It wasn't very busy the night I visited though the guy behind the bar was attentive and they had several things available. They do either flights of all their flavors or individual 5 ounce pours. A lot of the stuff was so fresh it was being poured out of the tank. I thought the meads were fantastic. I'll definitely go back. |
64 /100 896 WEST GRANTHAM ROAD Came here 17.12.2017. Typical US bar restaurant (it is not a brewpub). A lot of stools at the bar and dark ambiance. A few TV’s showing American Football on a Sunday. Mainly visited by locals as located in a quite remote location in the Mechanicsburg area. 18 beers on tap including 60 Min IPA and Accumulation Ale from New Belgium. Around 30 craft bottles and cans mainly from PA breweries. I had a well tapped Celebration Ale and an Accumulation Ale and quite good Chicken wings (6$ during Happy Hour). Monday to Friday Yuengling Lager for 3$ from 3 to 7 pm. Very friendly service! Will come back. |
64 /100 Wegmans - Mechanicsburg (Grocery Store) 6416 CARLISLE PIKE A few aisles in the food court offer beers. Decent selection of bombers and six packs, can do mix-sixers too. Price seemed fair, had to check out in the food area (PA laws). I’d stop by again if I didn’t want a case of something. |
60 /100 896 WEST GRANTHAM ROAD Ambiance: Typical Family Style place with a large bar in front. Wide open with plenty of seating but nothing impressive that you wouldnt see at a ponderosa steak house.
Service: Bartender was friendly but not very timely on refilling an empty glass, especially on a night where only a 1/4 of the bar was filled.
Selection: 12 taps (1 in house) and about 20 common bottles of entry level craft beer (goose island, magic hat, lancaster, great lakes)
Food: Ordered the Mahi Mahi tacos which were actually decent, in house chips were bland and boring
Value: One pint and tacos came to $17, nothing that will break the bank
Overall: They list themselves as a brewpub but only have 1-2 in house beers at a time (as per bartender), much better places only 15 minutes away |
50 /100 Silver Spring Beverage (Beer Store) 6485 CARLISLE PK Beer store just of 581 in Mechanicsburg. Pretty poor selection, only the basic micros and most of them were past their due date/old. Wasn’t able to get service to ask for anything fresher. Prices were good, but that’s about all there is to say. |
72 /100 Wegmans - Mechanicsburg (Grocery Store) 6416 CARLISLE PIKE Not a write-home-to-mom selection (altough I did almost). It is nice to be able to buy beer in a smaller size than a case. They have all the usual suspects in terms of large micros, and I saw a couple of fun picks there. Goose Island, Stone, Victory, Troegs, Green Flash all well represented. Some decent imports as well. There isn’t much beer service and the 184 oz limit per customer is a bit of a drag. However, you have to be glad that wegmans is willing to do this.
Edit. They enlarged the craft beer section quite a bit. Penn laws are Penn laws, but Wegman’s does their best to offer a good variety and decent service to the beer geek. With Al’s take-away section taking a hit in the new location, this is probably your best bet in Mechanicsburg. |
68 /100 Wegmans - Mechanicsburg (Grocery Store) 6416 CARLISLE PIKE I love to go to Wegmans, even more so since they started selling beer. I remember when they put the beer in this location, and when they recently expanded the area to hold a few more shelves.
The selection of bottles is pretty solid. They don’t really have anything overly "rare" just plenty of locals like Troegs, Victory, ect. and bigger names like stone, dogfish, ect. They also have a pretty good overseas selection as well. Prices are very reasonable, bordering on the best in the area.
The service really isn’t anything special. Most of the people working in the beer area never leave their registers. They sometimes have one or two people floating around the area, mostly on weekends, and they sometimes know there stuff. Overall the service is ok.
I am glad we have this as an option in our area. Between the solid selection and below average prices it is a welcome alternative. |
60 /100 Wegmans - Mechanicsburg (Grocery Store) 6416 CARLISLE PIKE It is nice to have beer available in a grocery store in PA! They also do let you mix and match a six pack from a selection of beers. |
64 /100 Wegmans - Mechanicsburg (Grocery Store) 6416 CARLISLE PIKE Grocery store with a great cafe food selection, and a great beer selection. The beer prices are reasonable for 6ers. Singles are a bit pricey, but not too bad. Food is expensive. |
40 /100 Wegmans - Mechanicsburg (Grocery Store) 6416 CARLISLE PIKE For PA, this is a stellar selection and a stellar service. It is nice to buy singles and sixes. Fortunately, in free states this is the norm. It is unfortunate that in PA this is special. But thanks Wegman's for making it happen. |
66 /100 Wegmans - Mechanicsburg (Grocery Store) 6416 CARLISLE PIKE Beer in a grocery store is a new concept in Pa. The state does not allow it, but Wegmans, and now some other chains following their lead, take advantage of a "loophole" by operating a restaurant in one corner of the store, selling beer with a restaurant license. Although they justify this by saying they look to offer beer to people having dinner there, the truth it this is all about takeout. The good news is, we now have a place with a very good selection of craft beers to buy sixers and bombers. The selection is pretty good; heavy on Rogues, Dogfish Head, Stone and regional Pa. and NY offerings such as Troegs, Weyerbacher and Southern Tier. Mix-sixes are reasonably priced and although they don’t advertise it, are not limited to the selections on the individual bottles shelf near the cooler (or those in the coolers). They will allow you to include beers from sixes on the shelves, too. Not sure if they intend it this way, but from the missing bottles in sixes that you encounter, it appears they don’t distinguish between placing higher priced offerings, such as Dogfish Head stuff that comes in 4-packs, from the rest when it comes to mixing. Although the selection does not change much as far as whet breweries are available, they do rotate the offerings from those breweries to include seasonals. A downside to their selection is that being a large corporate store, they have little local flexibility. All additions to the inventory must get home office approvals. Also, some very good news -- according to one of the chefs in their cafe (cafeteria style, mostly carryout food), plans are in the works to almost double the size of their beer selection, which he tells me will allow them to increase their selection. |
56 /100 Wegmans - Mechanicsburg (Grocery Store) 6416 CARLISLE PIKE Decent selection for a grocery store. Singles, sixers, cases, 22’s, 750’s,mix your own sixers. Approximately 70% at room temp, 30% in coolers. Some items I only found in the cooler area. I was at this location a few days before Christmas so it was very busy and the staff appeared somewhat overwhelmed. Prices were sporadic, some items had decent prices, and others were overpriced. |
30 /100 Wegmans - Mechanicsburg (Grocery Store) 6416 CARLISLE PIKE A grocery store, very similar to Giant Eagle located here in Pittsburgh. A decent selection of beers, mostly local Troegs, Lancaster, Victory, and Stoudts. Nothing unusual here. For the most part, prices are high especially on a local Pittsburgh macro IC Light and IC Light Mango which they are selling as craft and asking $4 / bottle. "C’mon Man" Don’t assk staff any questions, there have no idea about the beers. |
56 /100 Wegmans - Mechanicsburg (Grocery Store) 6416 CARLISLE PIKE a rare site in PA, to have a grocery store with beer. price is perhaps a bit high for most things, selection is fairly good. |
60 /100 Wegmans - Mechanicsburg (Grocery Store) 6416 CARLISLE PIKE Yes, a grocery store in the locked down, narrow minded Commonwealth of Pennsylvania that sells beer. Of course, this is only possible due to the fact that Wegmans purchased a liquor license for their Marketplace Cafe, located within the grocery store. Anyway, a nice variety of six packs and single bottles available for carry out. Some micro examples: Many varieties of Sam Adams, DFH, Victory, Weyerbacher, Troegs, Anchor, Stone, etc. V12 and Wild Devil in 750’s for $8.50! It’s like we live in AMERICA!!! Also a decent Belgian selection - Chimay, Corsendonk, DT, a few varieties of Lindeman’s, in both 375 and 750’s... just don’t expect anything rare. Imports include the usual suspects - Heineken, Becks, Spaten, Sam Smith, Guinness and Co. Prices are hit or miss; Lindeman’s ~$10 for a 750, but $12 for a 6 pack of DFH IBA or 60 min IPA?? I’m not complaining, just glad to see beer in the grocery store, where it belongs. Hopefully this starts a trend... it’s in a nice setting; there’s a fresh food bar nearby and a cafe where you can enjoy your brew, if you wish. Store workers are mildly helpful, but enthusiastic about their selection, at least. Worth a stop if you’re in the area and you wish to see how beer is purchased in the rest of the United States of America; a mini-vacation right here on the west shore! |
