“Visited on 23 Jul 2016. Large 3 story building with a bar on the main level and tables on all levels to include some outside patio areas. Food menu has a pretty good variety of descent food although the prices seem a bit high on some items. Our party had the Sirloin, Salmon, Burger, and Reuben which were all pretty good. They have 12 beers on tap and 1 on cask. Samples are only $1.00 each and a few higher ABVs are only $2.00. Really inexpensive. I tried all 10 of the beers that I’ve not yet tried before. Most of their beers seem very thin, simple, and fairly ordinary. They do have a wide variety of styles to choose from. I wasn’t really impressed with those on tap today, nothing special. Although I’ve had their Lurnberry Sour before and it is one of the best sours out there! Service was friendly and attentive. The sell some cool looking growlers and other misc. merchandise. They have on street parking which could be an issue when they get crowded. Overall it was a nice experience with a good meal. It is a little far for me to go there often. Too bad you can’t get the Lurnberry sour anywhere else.“

“Larger brew pub/ restaurant located in the center of this smaller town. Located in older building that claims to be Est in 1805. Few large fermenting tanks on display. They have 13 brews on tap (11 of their own). They can have such high number as this place is swamped with college kids. Maybe because of them this place felt tad rough at edges. Service was rougher more folky than city dwellers might like it. Beers were good. They do offer samples 1 $ each.“

“Visited: 11-14-11 The decor and atmosphere is really cool, the place is decked out in all real hand carved wood, has multiple levels for dining and drinking and a back patio area with a fire pit. The quality of the beers are usually pretty decent with a decent selection of 8-12 beers on tap daily with some flagships and some brewers seasonals. The service at the bar and seating has always been very good and friendly, never had an issue. The food is good and at a good price too, instead of french fries with sandwiches, they offer a variety of items which are all decent. Overall, it is one of those places where you walk out of say "That place was pretty cool"...great vibe, decent beer.“

“This is a great brewpub in the small college town of Slippery Rock, just off I-79. Definitely has a homey, small-town brewpub feel. Lots of interesting decor, wooden surfaces, has almost a lodge feel to it. Even the bathrooms are interesting. There are a few tables outside under a canopy. Inside is cozy but it’s actually quite a large place - there is a smallish downstairs bar and seats around the bar, then a separate dining area, and there is also an upstairs with another bar and possibly more seating as well. I don’t know if there’s more outdoor seating, but there very well could be. It has always been quite packed the 2 times I was there - a Sunday afternoon and a random Thursday early afternoon. They have about 10-15 beers on tap, mostly lighter style offerings such as pilsener, amber, pale ale, IPA, porter, stout, fruit beer, kolsch, nut brown, hefe. The beers are always rotating too. Overall very solid offerings and their Paleo IPA is really good. The food is ok - they have your typical pub appetizers, sandwiches, burgers, pizzas, and some entrees as well. I had some crab cakes which were pretty good. The pulled pork nachos weren’t the best I’ve had, but decent enough. Service was plenty adequate. No TVs. This is definitely a family-style kind of brewpub and be prepared to wait for a table if you get here during the busy dining hours. Overall a great small town brewpub.“

“I stopped in for lunch while driving on my vacation. The place has a lot of personality. Lots of wood, carved wood, the corner of the bar has a wooden dragonfly that was embedded into bar. The bartender was busy chatting with his coworkers at the opposite end of the bar so service was a little slow. That would be my only complaint. There were about 10 beers on draft plus one beer on cask. I had the fish and chips which were ok, but not great. The beers I had were enjoyable and I would go back again if I happened to be in the area.“

“Stopped in on a rainy Monday afternoon. Parking was free on the street. The place wasn’t too busy, but it was around 2 PM, so the lunch crowd wasn’t in anymore. They had 12 beers on draft and one on cask. I ordered the large sampler, which was one of all their beers on draft and cask, so 13 total. Most were about average, but a few were pretty good. The food was pretty standard bar fare. I liked the sandwhich I ordered. The fries weren’t hot when they were brought to me, though, and I could tell they were re-heated right before they brought them out to me. C’mon guys. Overall, my experience was good enough. I liked their bathrooms and the variet of beer styles they had on draft. Don’t know if I would worry about coming back here, but if I was with somebody that really wanted to go, I’d go with them.“

“This place was a welcome surprise. It feels like they took an Alaskan bar and moved it lock, stock, and barrel to Western PA. The details and the woodwork inside are amazing. I loved that they took a keg and turned it into a urinal. That’s genius. They have 13 beers on tap most of them pretty solid. The service is fantastic. You really get the sense that this is a community hang out. Everyone seemed to know each other and the vibe was fantastic. This is how a neighborhood watering hole should feel. Every town deserves to have a place this cool to hang out in.“

“I stopped here on my way from Brewerie in Erie to the Church in Pittsburgh! The brewpub is really cool and has a neat history. Brewpubs thrive on this character. I love it. We got a table quickly and service was great. The food was good too and it was very affordable. The beers were great too. I got the 9 beer sampler and had every single brew on tap. I really enjoyed this place and will looking for an excuse to swing by Slippery Rock again!“

“Old house with a college grunge feeling. The tables were wood planks. Very helpful waitress, she got a better seating for us. Cinco mayo was a noisey but fun. Next table had Canadians shopping at the Outlets in Grove city. Fast food service with a helpful server.“

“Anytime I am in the Slippery Rock area, I make a point to stop at this place. In fact, our group will golf in the area, just to find an excuse to stop here. I never had a bad beer in this place. If I didn’t like the beer, it was because of the style, not the beer itself. Food is excellent. Well worth the stop, you won’t be disappointed.“

“Visted w/ hometown friend last year. Pub located in small building, was dreadfully crowded. Interesting interior. Service was good for crowd. Nice food and brew selection. Had beer flight and most certainly average to above. Would visit again if back in "the pebble."“

“This place is almost always crowded in the evenings - a sure sign they’re doing something right. The beers are decent, although none are particularly outstanding. They do have a broad selection, so you should be able to find something you like. The food is very tasty - fresh ingredients and diverse. The atmosphere is great. The outside "beer garden" is very nice.“

“Made a detour on the way to Pittsburgh and it was worth it. It has a cool vibe to it with a lot of old wood decor from the bulding itself down to the seats. Food was pretty good and reasonably priced. The beer selection was pretty good and enjoyed all 3 of them along with a growler fill. I would definitely go back to this place.“

“Fun place with interesting decor and decent if not great food. Beer selection was good with a couple of gems on draft. Service was okay. It does get crowded on the weekends. I’d recommend it for an outing.“

“Decided to try this place out while in town. The atmosphere is pretty good (it gets crowded) with wood being the main theme. It really feels like it fits in Slippery Rock. The food was decent, but not the reason to come here. At times, we had to wait awhile for our server, so service could have been better. I liked the variety of beers offered and the beer itself was solid. Overall it’s worth stopping in if you’re in town, but not worth a special trip.“

“One of the most unique and interesting brewpubs out there. The building is great and every attention to detail has been made. The beer is good. Some styles are clearly better than others. I would sample before you dive into a pint. Beer prices are reasonable. They have a moderate sized menu with many different options. Much of their food is made with a unique twist which does not always work. You are best off sticking with the basics. If you are passing by, this place is definitely worth the stop if for no other reason to see the building and interior.“

“Stopped in for a quick app and a few beers on a Wednesday. Not very busy, but there were enough people to look alive. Prompt and friendly service. The food menu looked really good and the beer selection was solid, although the beer was average at best. Nice ambience in a very chill location. Prices were average and the patio was nice. Not a bad place.“

“I’ve been there 3 times now. Each time the place was very busy and hard to find a seat. Ambiance was great if you like crowds. I’m sure it’s better in the summer when you can sit outside in the patios. Service was ok but not great as well as the food. I’m not impressed with the beer that I had there but it was drinkable and priced to match.“

“Visited on several occasions with co-workers and friends. The place is about an hour north of Pittsburgh, and sits in a little college town. The ambiance is the best part of the place, by far. A beautiful wooden bar is prominent. One passes by windows that show the brewing equipment when walking in. Should one care to dine, he sits in a nicely furnished and very rustic dining area. The service is generally good, as well. It’s usually busy, but servers are quick to bring drinks, re-fills, and to help with some information about the different styles on tap. The food is essentially your standard American pub/mid-range restaurant stuff. Nothing terrible/nothing transcendent. The beer can range from pretty good (Pumpkin Ale) to utterly mediocre (Pale Ale, Stout). They are clearly trying to cater to the masses, which, though not worthy of disdain, is a little disappointing. Beers ran about $3.50, which is comparatively cheap in comparison to most other places of the same ilk. Overall, worth a visit.“

“Seventh stop on the super ultimate OSU vs. Penn State slash beer adventure weekend. Saw this joint on the cover of the Great Lakes Brewing News and decided to give it a shot. Cool looking building that used to be a morgue. Interesting clientele made up of us two out-of-towners, some families fresh out of church and a bunch of loud and obnoxious jerk-off bikers. Quite the mix, eh? Service was not particularly good, but I’ve had worse. Beer wasn’t very good either. Best of the bunch was the Paleo IPA and was the only one I would have remotely considered getting a full pint of. Ordered chicken fingers. Price looked good, but I got what I paid for. Four very small chicken strips, one of which I think was all breading. BBQ sauce wasn’t so great either; overly sweet and a bit chunky. Not a place I would bother visiting again and probably the least worthwhile stop on the trip.“

“I was north of Pittsburgh for work and while having dinner at Mad Mex in Cranberry Township a friendly couple recommended this hidden gem. I made the 30 min drive the next night. The decor is one-of-a-kind with salvaged materials and hand-carved wood throughout. Beer is decent, all brewed in-house. Beer styles were safe, yet well done. I had a brown ale and a pale ale from the cask. Not bad, both. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries, both fantastic....better than expected. Service at the bar was good....no complaints. Nice place....if it was closer to Philly I would surely return.“

“To bad this place is an hour drive from downtown Pittsburgh, as it is far better than any of the brewpubs in Pittsburgh. Great ambiance... wood interior, cool taps and a very dapper keg urinal. Bartenders are very good, but the greeter was a rude little girl that didn’t seem to care whether we got a seat or not. Large beer selection though only a few are worth another drink. Food is excellent. Just a great place to have a beer. Can’t wait to go again!! -Sincerely“

“Love this place! I only wish it where closer to home. The atmosphere is really cool, lots of neat wood work and other interesting decorations every where. Foods always good and so is the service. As far as the beer goes, I think all varieties are pretty close to style and tasty. My favorite experience is to sit out on the back patio in the summer by the fire with a great beer.“

“Good draft selection. It is a mix of domestics and craft brew. Last time I was there West Coast IPA and Two Hearted were two of the beers on tap. I have eaten there a few times and the food is pretty good. Will definitely be returming.“

“Visited last week. Atmosphere is of amish country with very nice staff. ad to wait awhile to get seated, not because of poor service, but because the place was so busy!! Nice wine list with extensive beer selections. Staff was very nice and attentive. Food was of almost homemade cooking with a flare! Would definately visit again.“

“Pretty cool joint. Had dinner with the family today. Food is good. Had a burger with fries and it was one of the better burgers of the past year. Beer was OK, and the price on the sampler was really reasonable. $6 for 6 5 oz samples. They seemed big for 5 oz’s though. People are friendly enough, building is kind of funky and old, live music from local bands, open mic nights... couldn’t be better.“

“Quite a selection of craft and imported beers on tap, I was surprised. This place is famous for their coney’s and various styles of hand cut fries, big servings. Large hunger busting subs that can be shared with a friend. Decent prices and free chips at the bar. I didn’t have any food today but what I observed was looking delicious. Big frosted 22 oz mugs of craft beer for $5. This place is clean and busy. The day I was there, on tap they had Leg Humper, Great Lakes, Redhook, Bare Knuckles, Dogfishhead, Blueberry ale, Guiness and 2 Magic Hats amoung others.“

“This place is undoubtedly a must see for any beer aficionado. The ambiance is one of a kind. The brew tanks are right next to where you sit at the bar. Great beer taps deer horns, cows, flags, chess pieces, guns, etc. Great bartender, his name was Freeze, and he really knew the styles. I saw at least a dozen people come in to fill growlers while I was there. This place has a wide variety of styles, anybody can be happy. The decor is really something to be experienced. The samples are only$1 each and they are ’large’ 6 oz glasses, not like the small samples in Pittsburgh places. Have not had any food here yet.“

“Stopped in with my friends after visiting Great Lakes Brewing Company in Cleveland. Fantastic ambience to this place! They put a lot of time into this joint. The beer selection was numerous, however they had no real broad range or depth to their offerings. I will note however that they did have a mild, which is real unusual and it was well done as well as a Dunkelweizen which had a decent amount of character to it. Our food was real good, the wings were so large they looked like they came off of a turkey for crying out loud! Funny thing is, this place is an Eco-Friendly Organic type resturant/Pub, I could not help wondering if all the cigarettes most of the patrons were smoking in this place were Certified Organic? The secvice was HORRIBLE, the absolute worst I have ever had, Matt our server had a REAL attitude problem to say the least. With that said, I would recommend checking this place out if you are in the area, it is worth the trip. However, go in this joint with the expectation of REAL POOR service you will not be let down.“

“traveled from Pittsburgh to go there and was very excited to try this place. Busy Friday night might account for the luke warm service. The food was outstanding and several beers were really good. the place was charming, but I was shocked that the service wasn’t warmer given the atmosphere. the friendly crowd made up for it though.“

“Loved this place. Right across the street from where I lived 13 years ago when I was going to college here - and it was a dry town back then. Typical! Service was great, very attentive. There were 10 beers on tap - 2 stouts, an IPA, a Pale Ale, a Red, a Scottish Lager, a Fruit, a Weizen and a couple of light ones not worth bothering with (IMO). Lots of wood inside the bar, with beams that were originally there 200 years ago (according to the website history). Comfy cozy place with a few different areas to sit - a lower bar, an upper bar, some bar tables up front, another room just a bit up from the upper bar, then another room in the back. Also noticed people going outside in the rear of the building where it looked like a musician was playing. I’ll definitely be back here soon.“

“I stopped in for some sampling on a Thursday afternoon. Midafternoon lull, so pretty quiet and not a lot of smoke. Really interesting rustic/wilderness decor, including customized tap handles - like a deer antler, I assume for the Buck Snort Stout. Holly was serving from the bar, and she made sure I had what I needed, answered questions, etc. They’ve only been open since February ’05, but already they had a small group of locals (mostly college aged) coming in the place. The menu, also found online, is a good mix for meat lover and vegetarian alike. They have a lot of mushroom dishes, seafood, and burger choices. The beers were all decent, though my favorite was the porter, followed by their cask-conditioned maple amber ale. There seems to be a house character to the beers, particularly in the aroma, of unprocessed honey or buckwheat honey. The brewer, Sean McIntyre, was not in that afternoon, so I’ll have to return to talk to him. I’ll be anxious to see how they fare, as the university shold provide some steady clientele, and Grove City, another college town, is not that far away and ... a dry town.“
