| 82 /100 12119 FARM ROAD 381 “This is a newish brewery in the very small town of Eola, TX (new to ratebeer, though has been around for several years apparently). It is quite a small town and requires driving along many farm roads. It is 20 miles from the nearest town, San Angelo. This place has an interesting background - the brewery is situated in an old school house which was abandoned in the 1980s. The brewer/owner, Mark, bought this place and began remodeling it, as well as developing his own brewery. He is the sole owner/brewer/cook/repairman/etc. The place itself has not been remodeled much and still contains the original architecture. There is a set of rather dilapidated auditorium seats in the "hallway." One of the old classrooms is the bar (chalkboards still in place), one contains the brewery equipment, and Mark sleeps in one. Apparently, the place is also a lodge, though I doubt people stay here often (the heating system does not appear fully functional). Mark is extremely passionate about what he does. Although most of his customers are more of the BMC type, he strives to put forth quality beer (though generally of the lighter variety). There were 2 beers on tap, a blonde/golden ale and a chocolate stout (served in styrofoam cups) plus we got to sample a black IPA in the works. All were quite good, and I’m sure will improve as Mark gains more experience. There is food too (the burger, chicken sandwich type), prepared by Mark, which was tasty. Overall, this is the place for those who love good beer in remote locations. It is a welcome addition to the TX beer scene. I would love to return, if I happen to be traveling even somewhat near this place again.“ |
