“My Favourite of the Galveston breweries. Located in the city itself, a friendly taproom with retro video game corner and shuffleboard table. Small patio space with a larger indoor area. Friendly service and usually trialling some experimental brews with a wall-mounted scoreboard so patrons can give their feedback.“

“Nice one room "beach bar" in Galveston. Outside it looked like a dive bar but interior is quite nice. Only two own beers (looks very much nanobrewery) but good selection of TX micros on tap and bottles. Recommended while in Galveston.“

“Quite popular nice little bar attached to brewery. Nine own beers on tap, flights available. Parking available outside. If you visit in Galveston this is one of the places to visit.“

“The taps used to be just BMC but as Houston has added more breweries, these guys have too. still very much a drunk hangout but its gotten so much better.“

“Odd place. Usually smells bad inside, like vomit. bartenders are always cool but the vibe is terrible. Food is microwave style stuff. Most of the beer on the board is old or BMC. avoid this place, go down the street to Brews Bros if you want good food and real craft beer.“

“How shall I rate the ambiance of a Specs? It was close to closing time and I wanted a beer and they wanted to close. They have beer. They even had a couple not found in Austin. Other than that it was SO exciting I almost fainted.“

“Nice bar in downtown Galveston, frequented by all sorts of people while I was there (6pm). Nice selction of beers on taps, some non-US bottles, but that is not what I go for. OK“

“Nice brewery near the beach...and the only one in Galveston at the time I visited (although I hear there’s a brewpub in town)...only other decent craftbeer locale in town is Brews Brothers on the Strand. This place has a fun vibe and a cool and eclectic layout and décor...although it’s definitely tight quarters inside. I found the staff to be very cool and helpful. The beers were at least good and a few very good...none will blow you away or be necessarily memorable if you are just passing through and visiting other breweries during your travels. Nonetheless...I recommend a visit here...nice place, good vibe, decent enough beer.“

“Must stop for craftbeer while on the Strand in downtown Galveston (along with Galveston Island Brewing on the outskirts). Very colorful...and a great vibe. Brews Brothers is clearly the best place to party in town if you want to include craftbeer. I found most other places in town are big on macros and weak on craftbeer. The selections are very good and the staff accommodating...if maybe a bit slow at times. Great music...live or just over the speakers.“

“A nice find on a quick trip to Galveston. Seemed much nicer than when we actually sat down for awhile. Big space. Solid selection with some local casks. Service a little spotty and food took forever.“

“A hard place to rate. if compared to downtown Specs, miles apart in selection, but for the island- it’s decent i suppose. The staff is kinda crumby and this store never gets anything special. Lame but it’s all the island has. Sad.“

“Probably the stinkiest bar around. the old hag behind the bar is rude and always in a bad mood. A very revolting place to drink in, who even added this to ratebeer.com?“

“When i’m down for work I will stop in for a few pints. They now serve a small simple food menu, but it’s limited and you can bring in whatever food you want. Usually about 12 house beers on, their hoppy stuff is always stellar! The bartenders are always friendly and Mark and Graham are always happy to sell me a growler if i happen to be there before the taproom opens, that’s service! A great spot!“

“Decent selection of micros, but prices are pretty steep. If you want to sip a craft brew outside on the Strand, this seems like the place to get it.“

“(Visited 10/2014): Galveston Island Brewing is located on Steward Road about a block from the beach. Parking is available in front of the building.

Outside is some seating, room for a stage and some lawn games. The inside opens to a garage on the right where the brewing equipment is, and a tasting room on the left. There is a short wooden bar on the right and seating made out of barrels and tables beyond that. The walls are a plain beige color. The tap handles are behind the bar against a chalk board that points out what is on tap on each.

Galveston Island has 8 beers on draught. On my visit this included Tiki Wheat, Sundowner Blonde, Blue Bridge Amber, Citra Mellow, Excelsior IPA, Perdido Porter, Smokin’ Blonde and a seasonal Oktoberfest. A sampler is available. The beers were all decent.

Service at the bar on a slow weekday late afternoon was good. The staff was happy to talk about their beers and were attentive throughout my visit.

The brewery does not serve food but they regularly feature food trucks.

All in all this is a nice little brewery to visit near the beach in Galveston.“

“(Visited 10/2014): Barefoot Beach Bar is located right off the beach and Seawall Blvd on Ave R. There is street parking in front of the building.

The inside of the tap room is one room with a large window taking up almost the entire front wall, letting in a lot of light. The bar wraps around the right corner, and there is a pool table and a couple benches in the rest of the space. Wooden floors and a cool ceiling. Behind the bar is a large chalk board listing the available beers. The tap handles are visible against a tiled part of the wall.

Beerfoot has around 25 beers on tap, including a few of their own including the Grand Tour IPA, Beachin’ Blonde and Mandarina Wheat. Other TX breweries represented like Lone Pint, Goliad, Galveston Island and Live Oak. Sample sizes are available. The Beerfoot beers were alright on the whole. Fairly extensive bottle list as well.

Service on an early weekday afternoon at the bar was good. The bartender was friendly and happy to talk about the beers.

Food is not served at Beerfoot but patrons are able to bring it in from nearby restaurants.

Overall this is a nice little laid-back beachfront tap room to visit in Galveston.“

“Nice dark and cozy -what a bar should be. Nice selection of beer and the guy behind the counter seemed very knowledgable and very willing to talk beer. A goods choice for a craft beer when in Gaveston.“

“For the most part, if you’ve been in one Spec’s you’ve been in all of them and this one isn’t much different. Good beer selection including a few from the Houston area which I don’t have access to in the Austin/San Antonio area.“

“First off, parking is somewhat of a problem, but once you find a spot the rest is worth the effort. 30 taps, 100+ bottles, two dart boards, one pool table, one foos ball table, great music playing loudly, six flat screens, and free unshelled peanuts all in a rather smallish bar. Seems to be a place where a young local crowd hangs out. I enjoyed the visit.“

“Pick-a-six not available. Shame. Otherwise quite OK selection but it’s a bit tricky buy a 6 pack of all the beers you want to taste. Bought only a bomber of Karbach. Much more wine than beer.“

“Place is super solid. Laid-back atmosphere, plenty of seating but still cozy, brick, patio, cigar room.. beer selection is always pure class, constantly rotating, wide variety.. staff is cool & knowledgeable. Can bring in your own liquor if you’re into that sort of thing.“

“Pride of Galveston. Relaxed atmosphere, helpful/knowledgeable staff. Quiet cigar room in the back with N64. Great, ever-changing selection. Just a beauty. They’re adding food soon. Also looking to brew their own stuff. “

“G-Town needed a place for craft beer people, and it is a gem!! ... The owners are quite knowledgeable, enthusiastic and friendly. The tap selection is awesome, all rotate expect for the house beer, Jacobins Rouge, which i think is spectacular and a hell of a house beer. The feel of the place is very calm and chill, like drinking at my house with friends. They even have a separate cigar room with comfy couches and a big tv . I would be very happy if this was my neighborhood bar, a real gem, especially for being in Galveston, that adds like 10% to the score!!“

“One of the few bars with an excellent tap selection in Galveston. Something like 30-40 taps, standard good stuff included: Rogue, Chimay, etc. with some local gems like Saint Arnold. Ambiance: always dark; dark and quiet on weekdays, dark and crowded on weekend-nights. Service gets a middle of the road grade because it can range from attentive and pleasant when it’s slow, to "impossible to get a beer" when it’s crowded. Basically, a good place that converts to a nightclub on Friday & Saturday night.“

“A good place to go for beer. We stopped in for a couple of brews and really enjoyed it. Our server Bobbie was great. She didn’t know everything there was about the beers but was more than willing to let you sample them. She said that the tap selection had been cut back recently to I think it was 30 taps. I don’t know what the deal was we went at about 2pm and the beers were 2.50 a pint.“
