“Only visit this location a few times a year. Normally frequent the HEB in Temple and Belton. This location is nice. Really decent beer selection and plenty of open registers to avoid long lines.“

“Nice little pub in urban Waco TX! About 12 taps of mostly TX beers and a larger selection of bottles. Food is from the restaurant next door. Down-homey feel and the bar service was excellent. Wish I had a place like this near my home-that’s non-smoking!“

“Thanks to RateBeer and the two excellent below reviews I was able to locate this fantastic craft beer bar while passing thru Waco on a business trip. Great people...great selections...nice vibe. This beer bar would rate high in any premier beer city...like the review says below...it’s not just the best place in Waco (or between DFW & Austin for that matter)...it would hold its own anywhere. For me the real thrill coming from north Jersey was the chance to try so many up & coming Texas beers. The likes of Lakewood, Live Oak, Martin House, Karbach, 512, Thirsty Planet, St Arnolds, and others. Make no mistake...this is not just salvation for beer starved Waco...but a must visit for all those traversing to Austin and other Texas beer meccas and beyond. Thanks to Neil & Jeff for being such great hosts.“

“Wow. This place is in Waco? Very nice selection, with beers from all over the world. The bar and tap set-up reminds me of Flying Saucer. Friendly and prompt service. A bit too dark; maybe turn up the lights a bit. Had tostadas andd fried pickles, and they were perty tastybut not mind-blowing. Recommended if you’re in Waco.“

“Why is this place on RateBeer? Sure, it’s in Waco but there’s nothing selection-wise to justify it. Great food, though. Don’t let the cliche of this being popular just ’cause fool you. The food is tasty (typical bar selection with a few extras and a few twists-- wide variety of choices), arrives quickly, and is very reasonably priced. DO NOT pass up the Southbound fries (appetizer). The best fries I’ve ever eaten. Great service; prompt and friendly. Beer selection? Scroll past.“

“Around 100 taps at this bar and grill that has aged over the years. A decent selection of food but both burgers at our table were undercooked. Service was decent.“

“Crickets wow, Tons of beers on tap here, service is always slow at the bar unfortunately, especially on a busy night. Near some good eats such as Ninfas.“

“If you want a good local place, a Big O, and some good bar food Georges is the place. Pat Green and other local Texan country singers used to stop in and play before Georges became overly popular. Still a great place to have a bite to eat and a Big O (Preferably Shiner). Reserved for Alumni these days… However, you must get the Crazy Wings they are dead-fully addicting.“

“Have had to update my rating, unfortunately. I had high hopes for this place, but it has become another townie bar. The bartenders are not knowledgeable about beer, I have heard them give wrong answers about basic beer facts. They also have developed an bit of an inferiority complex in regards to other beer bars in town. The service is poor; the bartenders do not understand how to tend bar, and would rather pay attention to their buddies than to help customers. The owner has been convinced that serving liquor will bring in more business. Liquor is great, but rather than focusing on good whiskey/whisky, they immediately started selling pub classics like Skittles shots. Then they started selling ’Gaelic ’Ritas’ and ’Irish Cosmos’. This ends any pub credibility, period. It is a shame, the place looks great, but never lived up to its promise. “

“This place is pure, mainline Texas dining! It is not fancy, but it is busy. Their food is not the greatest, but it is good, especially the burgers and the fried pickles. The beer selection is limited the only craft beers that they have are Fireman’s 4 and Shiner Bock. But that said, it is a great place that is more than the sum of its parts. Every part of this goofy little town of Waco comes together here; college students, professionals, blue collar, townies, bikers, you name it. They have live music on Saturdays on the Big-O deck, and a good juke box in the bar. This place has been a Waco fixture since the 1930s; they are best known for serving their beer in ’Big-O’ glasses (this is a 20 oz goblet, so named because a waitress way back when called them big orange glasses because they are the size of a big orange-get your mind out of the gutter-what did you think it meant?). It is a great place to catch up with friends, eat fried food, and session with a huge beer!“

“Out of the way spot in Waco with pretty decent selection of local and foreign beers you would normally find in Dallas, nothing rare but good quantity for the locale, typical liquor store atmosphere“

“This place is a huge warehouse with decent enough decor but you can tell it is more for Baylor University then anything else. This is due to the 9 pool tables, pair of fooseball tables and shuffleboard. The food was decent and the service was good. I wish they toasted my bun though (pulled pork). The beer selection is pretty good but you can get most of it anywhere. They had too many macros for my liking and Rolling Rock was part of their East Coast sampler? Seriously? Definitely worth the stop if you are passing through Waco.“

“The Bear is the only pub in Waco; it is a beer lover’s dream. While it can get loud when there are many people inside (rather than on the patio), it seems to be designed for the serious business of talking with your friends and drinking good beer. The patio is great with long tables that are lit up by strings of lights above. Another reason that it is so nice is that smoking is only allowed out on the patio. The beer selection is great and expansive. The have beers there that most people have not have heard of, but fear not, the bartenders are all beer geeks that can help you find what you will like. They are personable without being too friendly. Even better for getting to try new beers are the monthly tastings that are usually ably led by the pub’s owner, Paxton. The dude knows his beer and leads attendees in learning more about beer and what tasting notes to be aware of in the beer. The tastings all have themes, my favorite ones have been the all Belgian beers, the all Stone Tasting (led by a rep from Stone Brewing), and the all Avery Brewing. At the Avery tasting they surprised the guests by serving Avery’s Black Tot (they had two of ten cases that were shipped to Texas, and they shared it for a tasting!). I hear that this pub is great for Waco, but that sells it short. It is a great pub period. It is just nice that in a light beer town like Waco, that there is such a great pub.“

“This bar used to be, and should be, better. Their bar has a lot of taps, but little real selection. If it is from an industrial beer maker then they have it. They are especially light beer heavy. They have some good craft brews available, but Waco is a light beer town, so the kegs get old and funky. There are a few good imports as well (Maredsous), but they are also often stale. I had to report them to the NB Beer Ranger for having stale NB beer. That got the lines cleaned real quick! The staff know next to nothing about beer, they seem to specialize in making Cosmos and Jagerbombs. The service is slow, slow, slow. Their food has taken a noticeable turn for the worse; their food was tasty before, but now tastes like Applebee’s or TGIFriday’s. For good burgers I would recommend George’s here in town. For great beer and service, go to the Dancing Bear Pub. It is a shame, Crickets has the look right and good facilities, but the execution is all wrong.“

“Stopped in on a Sunday on my way back to Fort Worth. The place is in a big warehouse that was a little difficult to find the front. Big open interior with lots of pool tables and space. Very large tap wall; the sign at the time said that they had 107 draught beers, with several other empty taps. Large selection of Texas beers, including Austin ones that Dallas does not get. I had a bacon cheeseburger which was pretty good. It was a nice venue in a beer wasteland.“

“The Dancing Bear Pub is a diamond in the coal stack of Waco, TX. Being the closest bar to campus and the only true pub in Waco, this place has one of the greatest selections of craft brew in Texas along with a very knowledgeable staff. The pub is just off the highway and is well worth the stop when roadtriping to Austin or Dallas.“

“Don’t evaluate a place because of the city it is in, evaluate the place on its own merit. The food isn’t great, the service isn’t great, the prices aren’t great, but it does have a farily large selection of draft and bottle beers.“

“See comment from Legion, RE: WACO. If you have stopped in this city, you have only yourself to blame. post funeral, daughter asks size of beer: "uh, I dunno" - what? "uh, it’s BIG" Not knowing what a pint is .. that’s knuckle dragging stupid.“

“This one is hard to rate. High marks for selection, almost better then S&K in Dallas. No ambience marks because it is a freaking liquor store and no marks for service ’cause the 95 year old guy behind the counter never offered and I knew even if I asked, he would keel over. Still though, if stuck in town, definitely pull in here.“

“The highmarks come mostly for the fact that this place is in the armpit we call Waco. If you find yourself in poor little Waco, then you have to hit this place. Lots of good regionals on draught. In fact, the bulk of the selection is draught. I had an above average burger and the waitresses were typical beautiful Texas co-eds.“

“Liquor store near the Baylor campus, east of I35, just south of 5th street. Decent selection of microbrews - Great Divide, Victory, and a few others. All beer kept cold. Worth dropping in and seeing what’s new.“

“Probably the best assortment of beer (liquor store) in Waco. Numerous Belgians - St Bernardus, Chimay, La Trappe, Allagash, Van Steenberge (Urthel), St Sebastiaan, Unibroue, Val Dieu, and others. Also stock Avery, Rogue, North Coast Brewing Co, Stone IPA & Bastard, Dogfish Head, Sierra Nevada, and some regionals like Real Ale and Saint Arnolds. Not many are kept cold though. If you find yourself lost between Austin and Dallas, and need a decent beer, pop a couple miles west of I35 on Lake Air and head to Dicorte’s.“
