“Stopped in right at opening hour on a sunny spring day, midweek. Super friendly crew. Plenty of good options to choose from, and all we tried were pretty good. Bit of an odd spot a couple blocks up hill from the blooming riverside downtown area. But the space is nicely renovated, some kid of old industrial space, feels homey and inviting. Will definitely be back. Brewery #976.“

“Oysters! This bar is on the riverfront at the bottom of a bluff where downtown Lynchburg is located. The food is a wholesome step above the usual bar food and occasionally inventive, but the real draw is oysters that are shucked at a counter at the entrance. I really wish that they would convert that counter to an oyster bar, but it is also used as the station for the wait staff to pick up food orders. They also have a nice outdoor bar area. It’s one of the few bars in downtown that are open past 11:00 PM on weekends, so it can get slammed. It’s telling that I recently counted 25 IPAs on their draft list, with no Hefeweizens, no bitters, no sours, no porters, no saisons, no barleywines, no stouts, and only one brown and one Pilsner. I’ve lived in Lynchburg for over a year and have never seen a saison, on draft or in a bottle, anywhere in the city. The owner/manager is very nice, as is most of his staff, but their beer knowledge is limited to IPAs. It’s unfathomable to me that they offer oysters for a dollar apiece for happy hour, but very rarely have a dry stout on tap to go with them. Since they cater to local tastes, and rightfully so, I’m hoping that as the beer culture in central Virginia develops to approach what is currently enjoyed in Charlottesville or Richmond, this place will fully evolve into a complete beer destination. Until then, I would recommend this place if you enjoy IPAs.“

“Rivermont Pizza is a great dive joint, complete with concrete floors and scarred wooden booths, in the basement of a sports bar in the wealthiest neighborhood in the city of Lynchburg. They produce good pizzas in a wood burning oven and maintain a fairly quick rotation of nice beers on about twenty taps. While all of the folks who work there are nice and friendly, one of the bartenders named Jeremy stands out as the most engaging, especially with his knowledge of beers. As would be expected, the beers are mostly local, but you can get occasionally lucky with a Founders, Bells, or beers from other more nationally recognized breweries.“

“Jefferson Street / Waterstone has a nice selection of their standard beers and usually a couple of seasonal ones at any given time. Beers are good, decent... but I wouldn’t say amazing. Still better than some other place’s beers that I have tried. Food is always good here. Ambiance is nice too, a lot of exposed brick and stone and a decent sized outdoor patio. I don’t believe that Jefferson Street is trying to be a cutting edge and innovative brewery who wants to sell their beer outside of their own walls. Which is just fine. They concentrate on making the locals happy with decent beer and good food. Nothing wrong with that!“

“On the one hand, this is a hotel restaurant, and a good one. On the other, it has 20 regional taps, all available in flights, as well as bottles of Bud and Coors, etc. The manager is dedicated to good local brews. There are already monthly guest brewers and hors d’ourves at a nominal price. The setting is semi-formal with somewhat rustic furniture, and the selection is comprehensive for the area. Already one of the better stops in Lynchburg.“

“Good use of an old warehouse. A Lott of exposed brick, etc., and also a warm comfortable space. Our server was top-notch and the pizza was different, but still good. Inexpensive flights are available. The beer needs to be a little better to make this a must stop place.“

“A cool, really old school, brick building dug into the side of a mountain. Inside it’s kind of redolent of an upscale pizza kitchen environment; lots of brick and stone. We sat at the bar. There were 2 bartenders, both were pretty accommodating. Plus they didn’t bother us too much while we were drinking, only once our glasses were about empty. Small bar sits maybe 7-9. Selection is 5 beers, and 1 from Apocalypse. Their house beers are not my favorite. Prices were decent, but would have been much more worth it if the beers were a little better.“

“May 2013. Visited for dinner. Was seated quickly upstairs near the brewery area. Ordered the pale ale. was awful, stuck with water the rest of the night. Crab dip app was mostly cream cheese and old bay. Pizza was on-par with Papa Johns. Food took forever. Waiter was going around telling everyone it was their busiest day of the year. Won’t be back.“

“I recently moved from CA to VA and was really unhappy with the lack of good micro brews around. That was until I found out about rivermont pizza! As soon as I stepped inside I loved it. It’s right across the street from a local college so it has a great mixture of young college age people as well as older people. The pizza is amazing!!! All oven baked and gourmet style. Pizzas range from $11 - 14ish and pints are $5. Which I personally think is great considering the area and the great selection of beer they have on tap. They always have new and different beers eveytime I go in as well as a full bar. Definitively my favorite place I have found since I moved to VA. The service can be a little slow sometimes, only becauae it is always so packed inside. Sometimes there are long waits for a table but it is totally worth the wait. After 10pm they start carding and only offer a small selection of food and it becomes more of a bar. And if you snake your way through the restaurant in the very back there is Ned Beer and Wine which is pretty much a small little room filled with micro/craft beers from all over the country. They offer lots of CA beers which I personally love because I miss them and have not been able to find them anywhere else. Staff at Neds is wonderful and always willing to help you find something new and take suggestions for new brews to carry.“

“This is one of the few places whereyou can get Jefferson Street Beer. It is hard to find if you don’t have a GPS, but worth the effort if you are in the area. You can get a sampler rack of the Jefferson St. brews. My favorite was their Stoudt.“

“October 2011. This is a neat place to visit if just to check out the cool reutilization of an old shoe factory, now a hotel, brewery and a couple restaurants. The hotel is cool in its uniqueness but could’ve been a tad bit cleaner. The restaurant produced a sturdy brick oven pizza, and the beer was good enough to have a few. What else could one want. Potential to be even better. (#546)“

“A nice place tucked off in what seems to be an ongoing revitalization effort. The pizza place is on the main level and the brewery is on the second floor. The beers were solid though they lacked anything non-standard. We did not eat, but what others were ordering looked good. The service is helpful and attentive.“

“I really am proud to have Ned’s Beer & Wine so close to home! Ashby and Evan are so helpful in both guiding your adventurous palate to some good picks, or tuning your discerning taste to the correct selection for your meal. I love IPAs, Belgian Whites, and Stouts - and will convert for good cause - and I have found so many more beers to appreciate thanks to these guys! the seasonal homemade cinnamon basil ice cream was so good!“

“Went here with a client last night for a business dinner. Located on the lower floor of an old hotel building near the river. Nice new, typical brewpub look and feel- decent bar area, decent seating with the brewing equipment located upstairs. Service was really good. Food was ok- calamari wasnt that great, but the pizzas were pretty good- they have a large woodfire pizza oven- similar to earthbread or american flatbread. Beers were nothing too exciting or unique for the beer geeks, but the 5 beers they had- were all very well made and pretty tasty. The APA, and the Oktoberfest were the standouts. Nice place. Ill be back next time in lynchburg.“

“I’ve had to downgrade this a bit as my second visit the food was oversalted and inedible. On the bright side, though, they do now allow fills of outside growlers. Located in sort of a recreational area near the riverfront in Lynchburg. The brewery is located above the restaurant and the beer is served within the restaurant. Parking was ample. The people were all very nice. Ambience is upscale casual... bright with exposed stone. Very nice. Fairly small place. They specialize in pizza but there are a lot of other options on the menu. Not cheap food, but reasonable. I had a prosciutto, chicken and salami panini w/ potato salad for $7.95. Not the best, but tasty. The beers tend to be made for a non craft beer audience, but they are all solid and I felt the pale ale was a standout. They have 8 taps, but only 5 beer available at the time. Light Lager, Honey Orange Wheat, Amber, Pale Ale, Oatmeal Stout. The beer seems overpriced at $8.95 for a five beer sampler and growler fills at over $14. They don’t fill growlers that aren’t their own, which is epically lame since it’s perfectly legal in this state. The server did agree it was a stupid rule, which was cool. I didn’t look“
