“A neat brewery located on a rural farm. We visited on a Friday afternoon and it was pretty dead, even though there was to be live music later that night (the band showed up early to set up and they were the only other patrons). There is a cozy bar and indoor seating, also outdoor patio seating available. There were 8-10 taps available, many brewed with homegrown ingredients. The cilantro lime wheat and lemon basil wheat were especially tasty. There is a small food menu (hot pretzels, sandwiches) but I didn't try any food. Overall it was a good stop in terms of the beer. Prices seemed a little high for a rural area ($6 plus tax). The ambiance was a bit odd, but maybe we just hit it at an off time.“

“Great farm brewery. We really enjoyed our visit. Very casual. The beers were all good - nothing fantastic, but all solid. Good selection of beer. The food was very good. Great service, friendly staff.“

“Cool farmhouse brewery with tons of character near Shenandoah. These beers were all great when I was here, seems like they worked out any issues they had in the beginning, and are now turning out solid beers brewed to style with a couple of novelty fresh farm-ingredient brews. They sell flights at $10 for four tasters.“

“Rural farm brewery near Harrisonburg - beautiful scenery and working farm - they were remodeling taproom when I was there so not sure how place will look inside - beers were decent enough. But it’s really about the atmosphere - food options too.“

“Situated in the picturesque Shenandoah River Valley, tucked up a dirt road on the hill. The brewery is on a working farm that grows it’s own hops along with a variety of herbs. A flight is available to try the small range of beers, although they are served in awkward little schnapps glasses. Full serves can be bought but we noticed the glassware was all dirty so that’s something that definitely needs to be rectified as the beers looked like crap in the glass. Not the most exciting beers and most were muddled in flavour profile. There’s food options such as sandwiches. Bonus points for the pleasant location.“

“March 21, 2015: this is a working farm in a very picturesque rural area. Tasting room has a long bar, a few tables and a small patio. The beers were so-so, but the lemon basil ale made with herbs grown on the farm had the freshest basil aroma I’ve ever experienced, in a beer or from the plant itself. A black IPA was OK. You can taste six beers (and the server threw in two for free) in tiny schnapps glasses, or have a flight of four in larger four ounce glasses, or full pints. All the glassware was dirty, though, which was a bit of a turn off. Food included sandwiches, cheeses made on the farm, and heftier plates. A very pleasant, relaxing stop, just don’t expect great things from the beer. 4-10-8-8-9=72. Re-visit Jan 19, 2016: beers are much improved, and several were excellent. Food is homemade and very tasty. No glassware problems. Kudos!“

“Rural brewery, and if you think you’re headed to the wrong place, you probably aren’t. It was dark when I arrived but it looks like a small working farm. Small building houses the brewery and the tasting room. Long bar and a tent outside with tables. Homey feel and country music playing. Comfortable. Bartender was nice and helpful. 6 beer flight for $5 (TINY glasses) and pints for $6. Beer quality was decent with a couple sub-par. Food is available, but I didn’t partake. Bottles to go are $3.50, a little pricy. Decent place.“

“Backroom Brewery is located in the countryside near Front Royal off of I-66. There are two driveway entrances leading to the same brewery building, which has the air of a garden cottage. A hop farm and herb garden are located out of the back and all are used in their beers. The staff work quickly and efficiently serving the freshly brewed beer.“

“Tiny place near Front Royal. Worth a stop if you’re hitting any of the hiking in the area. Small tap room with 8 different styles on. Heated patio. Pets welcome.“
