70 /100 Gustav’s (Restaurant) 617 HWY 2 AND FRONT ST Stopped here for a lunch with the family, very toddler-friendly if that's a criteria for you. Beer selection is ... fine. All Pacific Northwest and German, although only ~5 of the 25 taps were what I'd characterize as "very local". Still, definitely a place you can get ticks you haven't had before and drink some decent beer. As for the food, the fries were quite good, the prime rib was good, the breaded mushrooms were surprisingly mediocre and the wife liked her patty melt. And the place itself is in the sweet spot of being close enough to be easily walkable (even while carrying a giant toddler) while being far enough away from things where it's not terribly crowded.
Not a place to go out of your way to, but a perfectly fine stop if you're around. |
90 /100 935 FRONT ST I really dug this place so will likely be an outlier rater on it. Got a flight and wanted to try one of their IPAs so they threw in a fifth sampler for free. Can't complain about that service. Pleasant enough place to drink - Bavarian decor but that's just the town's theme (Leavenworth is made up like a Bavarian holiday village).
The beer - IPA was crisp and floral. They had two variants of bieres de garde which were tasty examples of the style. Stars were (a) their German Chocolate Cake ale, which even my fiancee liked (tastes way more complicated than its 6%) and (b) a great holiday barleywine which was like something out of an aged JW Lee's bottle. So I was a huge fan of the beer I had. Like 7 other taps I didn't bother with because I was driving.
They had some snack-type food which I didn't try. Prices were a bit steep for central Washington but not unreasonable.
Would definitely check this place out if you're in central Washington. |
72 /100 935 FRONT ST A nice bavarian themed brewery that also has a skiing lodge feel to the place. A large place with a nice patio, and the bar is placed right up front. Service was prompt. They had 10 beers on tap and samplers were available. No food available. Prices were a bit steep but made sense for the area. Best spot in Leavenworth. |
68 /100 935 FRONT ST Pretty nice place. Seating upstairs, some downstairs. Pretty small. Good service, just order at the bar. The beer was decent, nothing amazing but solid. Nice service. Could be busy early. Enjoyable. Must visit in Leavenworth. 4$ bombers are good. |
70 /100 935 FRONT ST Visited here last week Thursday during my getaway.
First things first, I really like the location and the building itself. They have a brilliant patio which has one long table ringing a toasty fire. Though I didn’t get to sit at it, I was on constant lookout for a seat there. The inside reminds me quite a bit of a ski lodge with brewing equipment, and though the first floor doesn’t have a ton of room, they have an upstairs where one can spread out.
I thought the service was good though I didn’t have much chance, or reason, to interact with the servers. Everything was prompt and running smoothly, though, so that’s a plus..
Value was decent, since it is, after all, in a tourist town, and the selection is decent with 8 taps. Really, the only pity is that the beer didn’t really strike my fancy. Still, I’d come back for the fire. |
72 /100 935 FRONT ST In a cute, over touristy, but stunning backdrop of the pass, this brewery is all about the patio. Heaters when it gets cold, outdoor fire pit and lots of seating space give it a ski lodge like feel. Service was counter and not that helpful, but asked someone who knew when I had a tough question. Beer was OK, with a few that were good. Decent pricing for the environment. Although I wouldn’t seek them out, I would be happy to stop when passing through. |
80 /100 935 FRONT ST Rolled in to get some ticks. The $7.50 for 4 4oz tasters not the best deal ever but hey a tickers got to tick. All the beers were pretty good. They had a few seasonal that I was happy with. I was able to score a pour of the barley wine that was not even on the board. |
44 /100 Hard Row to Hoe (Beer Store) 837 FRONT STREET Stopped in just to see what they had. It was a cool little shop but all wine. No need to stop in if your looking for beer. |
72 /100 Munchen Haus (Restaurant) 709 FRONT ST Small selection of icicle beers along with a German or two. They also had a cider on tap. The food was just ok. Lots of different mustard and a large pot of sauerkraut was the highlight for me. |
80 /100 The Cheesemonger’s Shop (Beer Store) 819 FRONT ST Walked down to check out the beer and cheese selection. A nice selection of bottles from all around. The prices are not to bad considering it is in a little touristy location. The cheese selection is great aswell as a few cured meats. |
60 /100 Bavarian Bistro & Bar (Restaurant) 801 FRONT STREET Cozy restaurant, in expected mitteleurope style; food is sausages and schnitzel, not too good (the sausages were just ok, and expensive, the schnitzel was miserably small). They have a mix of some good craft and some macro; a decent stop for touristy Leavenworth. WiFi available. Some beers I saw on tap: Ninkasi Sleigh’r Dark Double Alt
10 Barrel Pray for Snow, Iron Horse Quilters Irish Death, Elysian Night Owl Pumpkin Ale, Ninkasi Oatis Oatmeal Stout, Franziskaner Hefe-Weissbier, Deschutes Mirror Pond Pale Ale, Icicle Bootjack IPA, Rainier
|
56 /100 Hard Row to Hoe (Beer Store) 837 FRONT STREET In the basement of the building, a small room where the company sells wine and their Ice Cider, that is available in bottles to go (30$+tax) or by the glass (10$). No sitting, but the Ice Cider is very nice and worth a stop. |
72 /100 935 FRONT ST A very nice taproom, in the winter it offers the comfort of a log cabin, there is a moderate amount of space, and a mezzanine, where a country singer was giving a show when we visited. There are about 8 beers on tap, quite good ones, including rotating seasonals, but served too cold; they are served also in a 6x4oz sampler (10$), growlers, and a few bombers. They have a barrel aging project and some beer will be released soon. WiFi available. A very nice stop in Leavenworth. |
52 /100 Munchen Haus (Restaurant) 709 FRONT ST I was not impressed by this place. Visited in winter, this biergarten bust be less appealing than in the summer, the food is the same that you find in other places, and the beer list is small, now carrying Icicle beers on tap. So I would rather go to Icicle instead. |
68 /100 Gustav’s (Restaurant) 617 HWY 2 AND FRONT ST This place at least doesn’t seem to mimic the other German Disneyland restaurants. We liked the laid back but dynamic pub/restaurant with a good beer list, 25 taps, mainly craft. Didn’t eat here but the burgers looked good. In Leavensworth this one could be, with icicle, the only beer stop. |
54 /100 935 FRONT ST To me, this seems like more of a "tourist trap" brewery than a "we like beer and people who like beer" brewery. Wife and I stopped in, and they had 8 of their own beers on draught, which they sold for $12. Not horrific, but not very good. There was VERY little seating inside, which was upsetting on a cold winter night, where we were banished to the outside. There were not enough heaters outside, either, to make it comfortable. There were small amounts of food, but it was severely overpriced ($3 for a small bowl of pretzel sticks out of a store bag). The beer was decent, but it was not a fun experience there. |
72 /100 Gustav’s (Restaurant) 617 HWY 2 AND FRONT ST Pretty standard pub with a touristy Bavarian / Ski Lodge vibe. 20 taps or so, decent but not exceptional selection of Washington micros with a few German beers scattered throughout, three beers specially brewed for them. Food is decent pub fare. |
80 /100 Munchen Haus (Restaurant) 709 FRONT ST (Visited 09/2012): München Haus is located in Leavenworth which is about 2 hours east of Seattle. It is at the end of Front Street amidst an idyllic Bavarian village. Street parking and a few lots nearby. The entrance leads to a walk-up cashier where you place your food order. You then walk by the grilling area and into a beer garden which has covered benches and a small bar under a tent. The bar has a few taps including local brews from Icicle (I think it may be owned by the same people) and other regional brewers like Alpine. Some bottles in a cooler as well. Service at München Haus was friendly all around, including the cooks where we picked up our food. The bartender at the beer tent was knowledgeable as well. As for the food, our brats and kraut were delicious and they had probably a dozen different mustards from which to choose (which are for sale around town). Overall this is a fun spot to visit with good food and a few solid beer options. |
78 /100 The Cheesemonger’s Shop (Beer Store) 819 FRONT ST (Visited 09/2012): The Cheesemonger is located in Leavenworth which is about 2 hours east of Seattle. It is downstairs through a door (that we didn’t spot on the first pass) on Front Street amidst an idyllic Bavarian village. Street parking and a few lots nearby. The store features a counter holding their stock of cheeses. Shelves and coolers around the perimeter of the store have the beers. They have a lot of bottles from the Pacific Northwest plus other domestic craft breweries. Also imports primarily from Germany and Belgium. Service at the shop is good. Staff was helpful and friendly. All of the cheese we tried on our visit (including several samples) was good. Overall this is a nice little shop to visit. |
86 /100 935 FRONT ST (Visited 09/2012): Icicle Brewing is located in Leavenworth which is about 2 hours east of Seattle. It is at the end of Front Street amidst an idyllic Bavarian village. Street parking and a few lots nearby. There is a patio in front that offers a view unfortunately of an ugly building across the street. Inside there is a walk up bar and tasting room, and behind that there is a view of the brewery. There is a large board behind the bar listing the beers. Cool tap handles too. Icicle has 7 beers on tap and they are available in a sampler for $7. They include a Kölsch, Lager, Amber, Wheat, IPA, Porter and a Fresh Hop seasonal and oak-aged Porter on my visit. All of the beers are enjoyable. They offer different methods of take-away beer too including a thermos. Service on my visit was knowledgeable and very friendly. We did not have any food on our visit. All in all this is a great spot to visit in the Wenatchee forest area. |
80 /100 Munchen Haus (Restaurant) 709 FRONT ST Best to come during one of Leavenworth’s fall festivals. When their hop plants are blooming and they have a live accordian player (no he’s good and not obnoxious or overly loud, he’s off in corner. No, really. It’s okay, you can sit away from the accordian player. Well, if you are going to Leavenworth just deal with it, accordian and oompah music is just unavoidable there). They have a nice selection of different mustards for their brats, along with homemade sourcrout. Some nice micros. I will definately return on future trips to Leavenworth. |
72 /100 Gustav’s (Restaurant) 617 HWY 2 AND FRONT ST I found the interior of Gustav’s pretty charming. It fits in with the town’s Bavarian theme and is decorated with ski paraphenalia. There’s a lot of tables plus a bar. Food was pretty standard pub fare. My brat was good but nothing was truely standout. They have three beers that are made for them and a modest selection of local and import brews as well. I had their porter and found it quite respectable. |
78 /100 Munchen Haus (Restaurant) 709 FRONT ST Munchen Haus is a pleasant outdoor beer garden that draws you in very easily. My favorite part is the hop vines planted around it. You can get decent pretzels and excellent brats here with a ridiculously large selection of mustards to smother them in. It had a modest tap selection that seemed mostly geared towards lighter micros while I was there. Overall, a great choice while in Leavenworth. |
66 /100 Gustav’s (Restaurant) 617 HWY 2 AND FRONT ST Now once I saw this place I had to go in. The feel was of the old Bavarian ski lodge and a mixture of a newer pub. They had tons of seating and with there own beers made for them this was a little slice of heaven. Family friendly they do have a front bar for those who want to sit and just have a brew. With 3 different beers they have made for them it was a great time and I was able to try two of them before I had to go. Pub fair for the food so that was easy to pick and we really liked the atmosphere. Once the bartender saw that I knew my beers he was more than helpful with what, where and who brewed there own brews. This is a good place to stop for lunch and to get out of the crowds as Leavenworth is packed with people all the time. I know I will be back for sure. I might just have to see what Oktoberfest is like in this town just once or more.

76 /100 Munchen Haus (Restaurant) 709 FRONT ST You have been up and down the streets and seen all the shop and smelled all the great food it was time for a drink here at the Muchen Haus in Leavenworth, WA. They have about 10 taps of some good beers from the local micros to some imports from yes you heard it Germany. I had some brews I had never seen so it was fun for me. We got a toasty pretzel and a great brat and sat under the covered area in the back. There was music playing and a great atmosphere. My family and I loved it and if you ever are in need of afresh beer and some good music this is the place. I bet at Oktoberfest time this place is jammed. The 10 different mustards to choose from was fun also to add to the event. I can’t wait to go back and try more food and beer. Make this a stop on your Leavenworth/Beer seeking visit. I was glad I did. Prost…

82 /100 The Cheesemonger’s Shop (Beer Store) 819 FRONT ST This was an interesting place. Down the stairs and you find a cheese shop filled with about 400 different beers. The shop was a perfect beer shop and I found several brews that I had never had yes all German Beers that I needed. They had a selection of foreign and domestic brews. The domestic where mostly local micros with a few macros mixed in. It was a nice selection and those coming in will find a good brew to try with there smoked cheeses and meats they can also buy. The cheeses that I was able to try where very good they had some smoked cheese that I loved. They also have some smoked meats that will add to any Leavenworth picnic. So stop on in when you have a chance. Yes the place smells like cheese. I will be sure to go back when I am in town. |
66 /100 Ducks and Drakes (Bar) 221 8TH STREET German-style pub fare that’s not bad, a pool tables, sports on all around, but good selection of beers (considering the relative size of the town of Leavenworth and where it is) including Mac & Jack’s African Amber. Worth a stop at the end of your long day of shopping. |
64 /100 The Cheesemonger’s Shop (Beer Store) 819 FRONT ST OK, your’re stuck in Leavenworth. Your wife is in one of the innumerable tourist traps shops selling "decorator" items, and you’re a bit behind on your beer shopping. Problem solved. All the beers here are imports with the Germans, English and Belgians represented. 10% discount if you buy a sixpack, and you can mix and match. They also have a stout-infused cheddar wich is killer! |
74 /100 Ducks and Drakes (Bar) 221 8TH STREET Nestled in the faux Bavarian village of Leavenworth, you’ll find sports on a couple of screens, and a causual atmosphere with pool tables interspersed with dining tables. The big new flat screen was down (black) when I was there. 14 taps with a good selection of micro brews (Leavenworth, Boundary Bay, etc.) plus Bud Lite. Also has bottled beers like Jubilale and Rogue Dead Guy. |
