“Minutes from the ferry terminal, this place is worth hitting if staying the night or passing through. It's a small tasting room, almost feeling like an antique shop, with a very old couch and dining table, plus a few more tables and bar seats. They had a dozen taps when I visited, almost all farmhouse beers, often with unusual ingredients. No tastes, just 6 or 12 oz pours of anything (most 6 oz pours ranged from $4-5). The beer quality is good, but not amazing, sometimes head-scratching in terms of what they were intending. Friendly service. Worth hitting when in town.“

“This is the way a tasting room should be. Vinyl playing, brewer present (and serving the beers), flights available,, and a mellow vibe. Oh, and the beers are special. Highlly recommend this place.“

“Spent a pleasant early Monday afternoon sampling beers here. The ambiance is simp[le but attractive and friendly. A couple locals here but no one else. Beers were all solid and at 1.50 per tasting glass, reasonably priced.“

“Sat at the bar and was given great service; and I loved the local feel. That being said, though the sampler gave you lots of beers to try for a very good price, overall the beers were decidedly medicore.“

“Very limited hours and even when they say they’re open, call first, because they sometimes aren’t. That said, visiting Alpenfire was an awesome experience. You drive up onto the farm on a long gravel and dirt road, with the tasting bar on the left. You can sample all their ciders for $5 (or $7 if you want to keep the tasting glass), which is a fantastic deal given how expensive their bottles are. Service was extremely friendly, and the lady who served us was very knowledgeable and passionate about their ciders. The cider quality was excellent, with a very wild / funky characteristic to a lot of them. Definitely worth organizing a visit here.“

“Dec 26, 2022 review: Just a quick update to say this place is still great. Still a dozen taps, with small pours of anything available, plus a decent can and bottle selection for take-away or on-site drinking ($2 corkage for that). Very friendly and dog-friendly inside, which is great. Still a great spot. Aug 31, 2015 review: Cozy, modern bar just minutes from the Port Townsend ferry terminal. 12 diverse bars on tap, including some nice limited selections. Service is quite friendly and the prices are reasonable. This place also doubles as a bottle shop, with a few fridges of limited bottle selection right when you enter. Definitely worth a trip when in town, as you can’t do any better than this for local bars.“

“Call First! This is a small family run cidery and they aren’t always open on time and on occasion not at all. It is a working farm with a nice tasting room. Service is great and they are very warm and willing to explain every detail. Selection is solid and you can taste almost the entire line up for very cheap, considering how expensive their product actually is. A great stop and great value.“

“A small bottleshop up front, nice bar and huge patio. All nice and comfortable, open and airy. Service was very nice and pleasant, didn’t talk beer but took the time to make sure we were OK. Great small selection of taps and good sample sizes. Prices were good. This is an absolute gem, especially for the area. Definitely take the time to stop in.“

“A surprisingly small and understated brewery right on the way to the ferry. A good portion of locals, who will drag you into a conversation as well as tourists. Service was pleasant. Selection was a fair size with 1$ samples. No food, but people were brining in stuff from across the street. Price was good and beer was average. Perfect to waste time while waiting for the ferry.“

“A charming little place that is quite difficult to find. My GPS said the place was about half a mile to a mile earlier than it actually is, and when you do arrive, the signage is quite bad, so drive slowly and keep an eye out. Once you turn off the main road, you drive up a dirt road for a while to the tasting room.

Many products available for tasting and purchase. It is possible to do a taster sample of 5 ciders/meads/wines for $5, a fantastic deal. The quality of the products was generally very high, and the service was extremely friendly. I highly recommend visiting this place when in the area. It’s a unique experience.“

“Nice small production winery open 12pm-5pm Fri-Sun during the winter, and everyday during the warmer months. The only reason this is on ratebeer is due to the two meads this winery makes, one of which was sold out when I visited; the other of which was a pretty simply dry mead. The wines were all quite enjoyable. Very friendly older man who’s happy to discuss and proud of his products. Cool little stop if you have time and are interested in wine and a couple of meads.“

“Really lovely modern tasting just minutes from the Port Townsend ferry terminal. The building is situated in an industrial park right off the water. The tasting room features at least 10 house beers on tap, including three seasonals. Beer quality was above average, especially the seasonals. $1 for a 3 oz. pour of anything is a screamin’ deal, and the service was exceptionally friendly. Wonderful place to stop for beers.“

“Like the name says, it’s a (grape) winery, but some years ago they started producing a couple of meads too; the place is out in the middle of the country, and not near other relevant places; they open a tasting room, mostly standing place with the classic rural decor. They are open to talk about their products. The two meads tasted are not bad but fairly simple. I hope they will extend their line, and maybe convince more wineries to produce mead.“

“A cute little orchard/cidery about a 10 mile drive off of the road to Port Townsend. We popped in mostly due to seeing the highway sign, but it turned out to be worth it. Friendly proprietor was pouring samples of almost everything they offer (tastes are a little pricy, but whatever). He also had a few cheeses for sale (there was an aged sheep’s milk cheese that was insanely good with the regular dry cider). Chatted a bit about the process (although his wife is the cider maker who really knows the details) and just had a good little visit with him and some of the other folks in tasting. Worth popping in if you find yourself in the area.“

“Drove a long way to get herr but it was totally worth it. i can’t even say that everything went well, but it was perfect for us. Our waitress forgot both our appetizer and our dessert but she was so charmingly clueless that we weren’t even upset. The atmosphere was perfect though. Listening to the waves lap at the shore while watching ferries coming and going under the lilac coloured sky was awesome. It was a bit cool on the patio so they found my wife a loaner jacket from the lost and found that was perfect. Great burger but even if they’d forgotten everything we ordered it still would have been a great visit.“

“Just what Port Townsend needed. A nice taproom/bottle-shop in a scenic location, with great space. 12 taps, with one being reserved for good cider. Just the right number, in my opinion, to provide a nice variety but also ensure a timely turnover for new goodies. It is good to see some of these breweries accessible on the peninsula for the first time. They gladly offer 5oz, 10oz, and 16oz pours at solid prices. Nice 5-6 door, dark, cooler with various sized bottles and cans, both to-go or for on-site consumption. Bottles are WA centric, but there is also a good variety from other places like OR, MT, and CO, etc. They also serve up some respectable regional wines by the bottle or glass. Located right on the water, thankfully tucked just far enough away from the often busy and touristy downtown area. Nice long bar, an ample number of tables, and plenty more outside by the water. There are a couple cozy nooks embedded into the far wall. One is a full-size dinner table and chairs, and the other has comfy furniture and end tables. Looks like a perfect place to settle in and play some of the board games on the shelves. Tons of cool photos of the town’s beer/saloon scene from days past. The beer garden is where this place will shine in the warmer months. Great views of the water/mountains, plans for a small stage for live music, bocce ball court, stone ping pong table, and a lot of space to breathe, etc. They provide small snacks like pretzels, chips, and peanuts; but do not offer food in-house. They encourage you to bring food in yourself or from the myriad surrounding establishments, many of which will deliver to the location. They have both the space and the interest to allow independent food-carts to set up in their beer garden in the future. Really glad to see such a nice place in the general area. They certainly have my support whenever I’m in the area. I wish them the absolute best, and am interested to see how it continues to evolve. Definitely swing by if you happen to be in town.“

“2010-06. Visited late on a Tuesday evening last June, this is the upstairs of a building in town that is dark and lamp-lit and full of books and crannies. The tables are covered in tons of photos underneath a sheet of glass, which makes for interesting finds. We tried a few halves of local brews, all in good shape and solid. I recall it being a long day, which either meant I was tired or just felt like things were taking forever to wrap up. (We had wanted to go to the Water Street Brewing place down the road but it had just closed for eviction four days before!) We ate a tasty bowl of clam chowder and a the Avocado Bacon Cheddar Chicken Melt, both were delicious. Good experience overall.“

“2010-06. Visited late afternoon on a Tuesday last June, we stopped in for a few samples en route to our hostel. Surprisingly busy, I also enjoyed that it was right across the street from a store that had an e-bike for sale. Nice wooden cabin feeling, room for maybe 25 people if standing, we sampled 5 of their brews with the Hop Diggity IPA of particular note. No food served here but a great place to try their beer and soak up some local .“

“Great little roadside attraction in a magnetically quaint little seaside tourist attraction of a town. You can easily convince your wife/GF/date to spend a day or a weekend in PT. That’s one count for PTBC before you even get off the ground with it. It’s a fairly industrial setting, being as it is in corrugated warehouses used formerly for boatbuilding and repair, from the look of them. The tasting room is packed with locals and tourists though, got friendly service, tons of seating, and a great vibe. The beers can be pretty good or they can be just OK, but they have plenty of them on tap and that’s a fact. A great place to stop for beers when you’re in town, to-go or on premise, provided you eat elsewhere, They barely have bar snacks. I didn’t ask, but they might allow outside food.“

“2010-06. Recommended on TripAdvisor, we stopped in after discovering that Water St. had gone out of business. Doesn’t look like much at the door, but once you make your way upstairs it is very nice. Cool leather booths, dark walls, books on the shelf. Business cards and various whatsits under glass on the table. Both funky and classy - it feels like a place for adults and not at all touristy. Gorgeous view from the patio, but we opt for inside as it is cold. Clam chowder is (intentionally) thin but delicious. Bacon chicken avocado melt is delicious, but a touch spicier than my own mild tastes. Server is fast and friendly, splits our sandwich order for us realizing we were planning to share. ($1 charge, presumably covers more salad). She gave me a small taste of a local wine that I wanted to try but wasn’t up for a whole glass. Beer list was not extensive but was pretty decent, we opted for two beers from Port Townsend. Quite enjoyed it, would go back if in town again.“

“2010-06. Missed it somehow on the way into the boatyard and got a tour of the place before finding it on the way out. Stupid GPS! Atmosphere is a bit spartan, basically just stools and tables. Good number of locals in for a drink as well as some obvious travelers like us. As many or as few samples as you like which was nice, we got fewer than I would have liked since I was driving at the time. Unfortunately it is just far enough out from downtown, combined with early closing times, that we didn’t make it back for a return visit as I had hoped. Bartender was quite friendly and helpful, offering a quick taste before I decided on the IPA. One of the locals cheerily chimed in, offering suggestions as I mulled over which samplers to order. Bottles and container fills available to go. Good selection of their brews on tap, most of which are decent or better. I would say it is a must stop if you are in town, I was pretty pleased.“

“Small-town charm is exactly what you get at this quaint little tasting room. Simple set-up of a small bar with additional tables and window seats. No ’table service’, simply grab what you’d like from the smiling lady behind the bar. Locals are unfailingly nice, colorful, and friendly. Their regular line-up is always on tap, and they spice it up with some specials/seasonals. No food menu, but they do offer peanuts and the like. Their core brews also come in bottles. Growlers available too. Solid little brewery that I gladly stop in to support whenever I am in town.“

The Wine Seller (Beer Store)
1010 WATER ST.
“Located in the main shopping section of Water Street, only a couple of block for the Water Street Brewpub. Mostly a wine store, though they have a decent enough selection of micros. I found a bottle of the Deschutes 20th Wit, which I was pretty happy about. If you are in Downtown Port Townsend, this is certainly worth a visit due to his convenience and potential to fine a gem.

64 = ★★ (Just ok)

I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“We visited this brewery on our way through town in March 2006. Great local brewery. A friendly atmosphere with a nice bartender and locals who were a lot of fun. Great courtyard on a sunny day to sit and drink a brew. Overall, the beers were real good.“

“Stopped at Port Townsend Brewing. It is just a taster room so No Kids. So wife and child waited in the car as I sampled some beers. The place is a side room right next to the brewery and if the brewery was running I bet you would get the smells of brewing for sure. It looked really nice had lots of games and a few snacks NO food just peanuts and popcorn. The bartender was nice but not too sure about her beer knowledge but I will give some slack since it was Sunday. I will stop again hopefully too see the brewery in action. Beers overall where not too bad easy drinking stuff.“

“Only beer store that I know of in Port Townsend, but there is probably more. For the area it has a decent selection, have some of the easier to find So Cal stuff that you don’t see around the rest of the area. Huge wine selection, if only the beer selection was as good.“

“Gorgeous setting with the funky up-the-stiars access MJames describes. Not a huge beer selection, but good; wine selection’s better. Good food, decent service, amazing deck, spectacular view. If you’re road tripping or, better yet, in town, you have to stop here. Best food in town is Fins, I think, but this is a better repeat visit.“

“This bar is located just down from Water Street Brewing. You enter on the road and go up to the third floor on an old set of stairs. The pub is located at the back of the 3rd floor, and overlooks the harbor with a fantastic view. We visited on a weekday night after getting some food and beer elsewhere in town, and it was nice to sit outside, three stories up and watch the Puget Sound disappear into the night. The beer selection is decent: a lot of local micros such as Mac & Jack’s African Amber, Port Townsend Scotch Ale, Boundary Bay (I think) and others. Overall it was very dark inside, but it had a comfortable British pub feel, and we got a kick out of the owner’s dog making the rounds and saying hello to everyone.“

“Located in an industrial shipping yard, the brewery is in a large metal building but the beer garden out back is nice, though out of place for that location. Chair scattered about the lawn, it was interesting looking but still odd. I much preferred the atmosphere in downtown Port Townsend at the other brewery.“

“Visited here on vacation in August of 2003. Friendly little tasting room and beer garden attached to this small local brewery. Have about 5 or 6 on tap and according to their website they sell 22 oz bottles in the gift shop. Good local flavor in the tasting room and they never meet a stranger. Beer is above average and their are a few microwaveable type munchies and popcorn. Stop by if in the area - keep your eye out for it it is easy to miss - it is tucked away in an industrial area right when you come into town.“
