68 /100 AKAHO 759-447 Took a short detour 3km from the expressway on the drive north to stop in to get some bottles. Tried the non-alcohol beer on account of being the driver. Tasted like wort with herbs (not very pleasant). Place was busy. Bottled beer was pretty good, though one with "special local hops" slightly sweet for the golden ale style. Would love to go back and hike/camp/drink there. Bakery next door has great offerings too. |
66 /100 AKAHO 759-447 New Rating 8/2020: This is in the tourist center of Komagane. Beers and service are basically still the same. I highly recommend getting one of the all-you-can-drink courses with food. Good deal. You can try several Mars Whiskys here too, but the special ones are best had at the distillery tasting room.
Original Rating: 3/2012: Nice place in a beautiful forested and mountainous area. A bit hard to get to without a car, but I suppose a bus or taxi from the station would work. 5 of their beers on tap, maybe 1-2 more available in the bottle. All decent, nothing stellar this time. Don’t expect the staff here to know about beer--the brewery itself is on the other side of town. Good food. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area. |

72 /100 AKAHO 759-447 Was here with MartinT, where we enjoyed several beers and took in the great scenery on a clear blue sky day. If it is nice enough, definetely try to get a seat outside.
The Katsu Don (pork cutlet on rice) was great, but the ribs looked (and we heard were) fantastic. Very big portions for Japan too. If you are in the area, a definete great place to stop over.
