“A great little tasting room with lots of choices on tap, bottled options, and growler fills. Dog friendly and can get a little busy on the weekends.“

“Close to the highway, but still a little hard to find (at least with our GPS). But just follow the road until the end, when the trailerpark is infront, you have the brewery to the right. Arrived 15 minutes before opening time a saturday afternoon, allready 2 cars waiting, at opening 5 more cars. When we got our beers there was a line out the door - Good or hype? 2 room taproom with brewery in the back, about 12 tap's, IPA's, Stout, Saisons and wild ales. Some bottles to go aswell. No flights or tasters, but small pours is very reasonable priced. Shared a couple of very good IPA's with my wife before mowing on. Very good service. Would have loved to stay longer, but still had about 200 km left to drive that day. Great place.“

“Came an hour or two before closure, the place was rather busy, but not packed so we found a seat without problem Rather small taproom, pleasant interior. 9 taps were on during our visit, all SARA. Quality of beers was great, really impressive how they can do various styles that good. Friendly service as well as the other guests so it had a "where everybody knows your name" feel to it. Well worth visiting.“

“Beer wise these guys are off the charts, but this is a place rating not a beer rating. Located in a tiny strip mall/industrial park at the end of a dead end street, the last thing you would expect to find inside this fairly small place is a brewery making the best beer in the area and some of the best beer in Northern California. Wooden barrels are converted into tables and I can imagine that on days other than a rainy mid day Friday that this place could be jammed. We only ended up here because a storm had knocked out power to all of Carmel and Monterey, which was truly a god send. Every beer we tried was outstanding as I expect to be the case from the 750s we bought to take home.“

“This popped up out of nowhere for me! Took a quick visit after a SARA run a few days ago. Place is effectively in a mall environment, not very large at all. Plenty of parking though is an upside. Inside looks about as Mercutio says. Service was good. 16 taps as advertised. 8 were East End beers, about 5 of the rest were Hermitage (more in a bit), and a couple other locals. All of the house beers are brewed by Tied House; apparently its the same owners and everything (they also own Hermitage, which is why that brewery figures so prominently on the taplist). They assured me that they are not just rebrands of beers on tap in Mountain View, so I guess I will trust them on that one. Most beers available as half pours. They also offer a flight of their stuff for $9, or alternatively a flight of IPA’s for $9. Did not try the food. Beer was actually decent; better than my expectations from the Tied House crew.“

“Modest-sized place south of Capitola Mall, next to the new Capitola Cinelux and Orchard Supply. Same owner-operator as West End Tap & Kitchen in Santa Cruz. About 12 bar seats to go with about 25 tables. 8 in-house beers and 8 other local selections available, all pretty impressive. Lots of good wine too. Bar TV plays sports. Exceptional food. Not as big as West End but won me over.“

“A strange location and only accessible by car, except those living nearby. Lucky bastards! Quite a few dropped by to refill a growler or two during my visit. "Lucybelle" was available to go, I bought a bottle. Beer on tap was available in 10oz. I shared two beers with my wife: 831 IPA (West Coast IPA) and Black Room, Blue Phone. Awesome beers! A must visit, even worth a detour. (Visited with my wife July 2nd 2016) “

“Visited around 3pm on Tuesday 02/02/16 - thanks to Peter Hale Taxi services ... he did make me ride naked in the front whistling songs from the Midnight Cowboy all the way down mind! Smallish taproom in an industrial unit just outside of Santa Cruz. 10 or so beers on tap but no tasting flights offered unfortunately. Solid tasty beers across a number of styles ... average rates must have been something like 3.6/7 which is very high for a brewery tap for me. Only criticism ... beers are way too cold ... to the point they hindered my enjoyment, noticeably colder than any other of the 30 or so venues I’d hit on in NoCal this week. Service friendly and fine, a few locals in the bar also and more began to come in as we left. Just the one bottle for sale .. one of their common offerings. Overall a solid stop for super solid beers ... just a shame they were so cold !“

“Classic middle of nowhere industrial park brewery tap room, parking is available which is nice. Some seating available inside as well. Lots of great beer available on tap, prices are a bit high but at least quality backs it up. A bit unfortunate they don’t do growler fills of everything, I guess they just don’t have enough beer. Anyhow, definitely worth a visit if you can make it.“

“Notwithstanding the fact that these ’rustic ales’ are produced in what is, basically, another industrial lot brewery, the taproom and the beers, especially, are quite nice. The beer range on offer is solid, spanning a range of styles. While small/taster pours aren’t available, they do offer half pours at reasonable prices (I think it was $5 for a half pour, $8 for full). During our visit, they had only one beer available to takeaway in bottle. The taproom itself is small but adequate; it would probably feel crowded with more than 20 people inside. The single server was friendly and efficient. One gripe I have is that the beers were served far too cold, i.e. just a few degrees above freezing, effectively neutering the nuances of the beers. Overall, though, I thought the taproom was very good and I would recommend a visit.“

“We made the 3-hour drive down from Santa Rosa to visit SARA on a Thursday afternoon upon opening. The location isn’t as sexy as I’d anticipated based on the current reputation and buzz around this brewery, but it’s nice nonetheless. It’s at the end of a side road through a neighborhood that feels a bit industrial at the end, and also kind of sandwiched between 101 and a trailer park. Odd. The building is nice, and the tasting room is small and clean and cozy. There were about 10 beers on tap, available in full and half pours, mostly for $8 and $5, respectively. The only bartender working was quick and friendly. The seating is limited and so is the overall space, but we stood at a long high-top and were comfortable for the time we spent there. The beers are excellent across the board. 1 bottle was currently available to go, and a few drafts were available in growlers. Limited but nice merch. Really nice spot, and worth the drive.“

“Pretty small taproom in the front of your typical American warehouse brewery setup. Decor was quite nicely done, mainly with great woodwork in the form of tap handles, tables and whatnot. A bunch of empty, whaleish bottles were standing around, giving it a pretty nerdy feel. The guy behind the bar was kind and served us quick. He also showed appreciation for every tip, however small, which is a great attitude to have. Beers are phenomenal. I think of all 10 beers, none scored lower than 3.7 with many well above 4.0. 10 taps and 1 bottle for in house consumption at the time we were there, as well as 2 growler fills and 1 bottle for takeaway. Crowd was a nice blend of locals and tourists, beer geeks and just regular drinkers. Relaxed and calm ambiance all in all. Prices were fair both for full and half pours as well for growlers and bottles, especially considering the quality of the beers. Solid brewery visit well worth the trip.“

“Small and cozy taproom full of local and import beer geeks. Service is friendly and of course can help you with any questions about the beer. Selection is pretty good, but don’t trust the site or anything else. Stuff moves fast and if you are looking for bottles it is pretty iffy. Only 1/2 pours, no flights and they can be pricey. A nice stop but a bit out of the way and hard if you are alone.“

“A retail set up but the clean and new feel are welcome. I wasn’t a big fan of the tables (barrels), or uncomfortable stools with no backs. You can’t sit for long. Really strong and balanced draft lift of mostly saison, but mixed with a couple ipas and stouts. The saison’s are where its at, but I was a fan of the simpleton. Good prices where you can get a half or full pour, but a flight option would have been nice. Lots of locals, friendly feel. High end beers at a good price, worth the out of the way trip.“

“I’d be here all the time if I lived closer. Liked that we could go with the kids - still a relaxed adult vibe. Nothing special on the outside, but cool place inside. Dog friendly too, and there were half a dozen in there that night, all super friendly. No flights, but we ended up getting half pours of everything anyway, plus a bottle to open there, and one to go. Everything ranged from good to stellar, no misses.“

“Pretty good spot. Beers are terrific, as expected. Half pours available, but nothing smaller and no flights, which I think is bullshit. But I was able to try 4-5 beers, which was cool. I was pissed that their website said West Ashley was on tap and it wasn’t. They also had a bottle for sale but you couldn’t take it with you. Lots of rules here it seems. Lots of charm in this smallish taproom, but honestly it didn’t feel that welcoming and inviting, and everything felt on their terms and not mine as the customer. Reeks of a bit of arrogance to me.“

“Yep, not much here worth writing about. Better places nearby (hell, the Whole Foods and Bevmo are both a lot better, and they are just down 41st). There is one cooler with some bombers in it, but the rest is mostly sixers, with a mix of commonly found craft and macro.“

“A nice place in the lobby of the brewery. 8 taps, unfortunately only 2 Saisons and no other sours, when we were there. Beer quality is very solid. Service is okay, prices are nice - no flights though, you gotta take their small pours which are not too big, but it can get a lot if youre alone. Overall not as awesome as I had expected, but still a very nice place - it was bad luck of ours that they didnt have more sours on tap I guess.“

“It’s not too often when I am completely blown away by a brewery. And these guys delivered. Over two visits, I tried; Belgian Single, 831 IPA, two different saisons, a dark rye beer, and a sour stout with cherries. All were really really nice, with the LucyBelle saison being one of the best american saisons I have ever had the pleasure of trying. Half pours available, which was nice as I wanted to try a lot of different stuff. The guys there were willing to answer the odd questions I had. Tiny little place (I could see it getting really packed) in an odd area, but well worth the visit to try these beers. These guys are truly killing it.“

“Cool little place just of PCH between Santa Cruz and Monterrey. Nice amount of spacing inside, with a few additional spots in one section of their brewery, which is basically just a small garage. Lots on draft, some saisons, some hoppy things a sour and a stout. Half pours were available, which is nice. Their beers were really good. Kind of in a weird end of the road warehouse part of town.“

“AdamJackson and I were lucky enough to meet bytemesis at Sante and shared a few great brews. Small place tucked away in a business park. The tasting room was small and cozy (of course we stopped in on a weekday afternoon) They are dog friendly so I have an appreciation for that, since my dogs are like my children. They do not offer taster samples but they do half pours which means if you have a few people in your group it still works out. Anybody stopping here knows what they will be experiencing with the beer. I hope to return someday! “

“Stopped by with the wife and kids on a Saturday afternoon. Wasn’t super crowded around 3:30pm but by the time we left at 5pm it was pretty packed. Probably the worst thing about this and what I took a lot of points off for is that they are "dog friendly". This would be one thing if dogs were allowed to be on the patio (which they don’t really have but they could let the dogs be outside). Instead the dogs are allowed to run wild. There were at least 3 dogs just running all over the place. This is a big pain when it is already packed and you are now tripping over mutts.

There were 10 beers on tap in a number of styles. No bottles available but the beer was nice. Somewhat unimpressed with most but that might just be a warped opinion since I had seen all the hype on beer bro sites about their saisons and bottled beer.

The service was great for how busy they were. The fact that they only do half pours and full pours probably speeds things along as you aren’t having a line of tickers out the door doing a flight of everything, never ordering a full beer.

Nice place and I’d hope the dog thing could be addressed or they could get a little bigger space.“

“Nice little place, like other said, in a industrial park. Two rooms, one with bar one with tables, nothing fancy, but it’s not dull either. Service was good, but in someways it would be almost deliberate to give bad service because how small it is. Beers were all good, just don’t know what you find here day to day. At least two kegs kicked while I was there, but we’re replace by something else different. No food, no tpcarts or trucks, but I was there in a Tuesday afternoon so maybe no time for that. Fair prices on things and they do half pours which I like when I’m trying a new place. Overall it’s a nice place to hang, locals were friendly, a bottle share broke out while I was there. Hope to here only more good things from these guys “

“Our second stop-off on the way down to SD. I have loved all of the beers I have had from SA so I was really looking forward to checking out their home base. We got there right after they opened and were able to snag a barrel table in the side room. It quickly filled up with lots of people, and about five dogs which was a little weird but whatever. Quality was quite high all around. Lots of nice materials used in the space and all of the beers treated with the highest of care. Service was solid. Tim greeted us as soon as we walked in, I had told him the night before at an event I was stopping in so it was a nice touch. As far as bar service, I didn’t have to wait very long for my beers when I was empty. Selection was great, 8-9 beers on including a special cask. Wish I could have gotten some bottles, I guess they ran out the day before so that sucked. Prices were good all around so no problems there. Overall an awesome brewery that I would definitely make my regular choice if I lived in the area, glad we could make the side trip to check it out.“

“Not really worth going into too much detail as there just isn’t that much to say about this place. It’s a serviceable liquor store to buy some beer, but you’re not going to find anything unusual here. Good prices on the beers, at least, and a friendly guy working there. Conveniently located in the same shopping center as a Whole Foods. The selection is definitely bigger than that of Whole Foods but it’s mostly overlooked stuff because people want their beer to be rare. Of course you still get the greats here like St Bernardus, Orval, Chimay, Sierra Nevada, Lagunitas, etc, and they have some Santa Cruz locals, but nothing that the beer nerds are going to go crazy for.

Service is sparse, prices are better than your average bottle shop, not much else to say other than.“

Whats nice is that this is in the same shopping center as the Bevmo, so it’s two potential stops in one. This shopping center is right across the street the mall. This particular whole foods had more beer than the crummy Santa Cruz location and had an employee near by that was their beer person. He made plenty of suggestions and they carry some imports that I’ve never seen in southern California. Not going out of my way to stop here but as far as Whole Foods goes, this one isnt bad for beer.“

When I first walked in and saw the whopping 3 doors of beer which included some garbage I was pissed that someone had bothered to add this place at all. Then I turned around and realized that the shelves had a bunch of beer on them as well. They arent refrigerated of course but there were a few decent beers around. As the others have said, 41st, just up the street is better, but you can find something decent.

“Visited June 8, 2013.

I’ve been hearing so much about this place and the last two times I was in the area they weren’t open so I decided that I had to check them out (especially after gummybearscantsail’s tasting of all the bottles offered by Sante Adairius). On a Saturday afternoon there were a fair amount of customers already but it was a comfortable atmosphere with a "patio" roped off outside, some barrels to use as tables, and a band playing in the parking lot.

The service was very friendly and were happy to explain some things about the beer. Unfortunately they dont do samplers/flights but they do half glasses and most of the beers are pretty good. They really only had a couple of styles present when I was there, which were the most popular ones: hoppy, farmhouse, and coffee infused. So far I think my favorites are the Berliner and the Saison Bernice (of which they had bottles for $15).

Getting here sounds more complicated than it really is. Get off of 1 and make 4 rights.“
