“Pretty nice beer bar. 16 taps mostly local beers. Flights of 4x5oz. Across the street from a 200yr old mission. Plenty of parking. A bunch of coolers on the wall, but only 1/4 full, maybe it is slow from CoVid.“

“Just Another Liquor Store. I would create an acronym JALS for it, but I don’t like acronyms. They have about 6 individual cans of locals. A dozen large micro 22oz bottles, and a bunch of 6 packs from large breweries. Not worth visiting, but I did see Stone 020202 on the shelf (2022 remake, unfortunately).“

“Initially I would have call this location just another Total Wine. Very similar to other stores, but I found a half dozen beers I wanted to try, which is unusual. Maybe the selection varies a little with location. In general I really like Total wine because they have singles, and many locals, and many 12oz cans, and prices are the lowest.“

“They're in the upper-middle-class of beer stores in the southern part of the Bay Area. Some esoteric stuff on the shelves, some really good stuff that goes quickly, and good stuff on draft. If I lived near them they'd be a goto, although I'd need to supplement with runs elsewhere.“

“It's a Total Wine. Pretty indistinguishable from other Total Wines. Better than Bevmo, fine if it's all you have access to, but better around. In a word, cromulent. I'm hitting them up because I'm in a dry month and so wanted non-alcoholic beer, and for whatever reason they have the best selection of non-alcoholic craft beer. Go figure.“

“Decent. About 32 taps, too many of them IPAs (would say 15-20) but what they do have on the IPA front is very good. Pizza is solid, generous on the toppings (even if the crust is a little too deep). Solid spot.“

“Pretty mediocre. A few interesting singles in the cooler but mostly same old same old for the area. They have a tasting room which didn't have much that looked interesting (although I always appreciate being able to drink and shop). Not a ton of volume and not a ton of depth. Think like an OK corner store more than a place that should be rated in the 80s on here.“

“Visited after dinner on a Tuesday. Located in a commercial, light industrial office park. The tasting room is an old house, and they make nice use of the 4 different rooms, with different places to hang out. They have also commandeered the parking lot in front of the brewery that is used as the patio. Beer selection is 8 house brews, with only of them being German styles, which surprised me a bit. The beers are available as flights, full pours or crowler/growler to go. Food is only a couple of bags of chips. Service was efficient, zero conversation just “what do you want” - they've got that part of German down at least. Brewery is visible behind a glass wall. (Locals should check it out, visitors with extended time) I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“Visited mid afternoon on a Monday. Located just down the block and across the street from Mission San Jose in Fremont, California. Parking is on the street or in a side lot dedicated for California Craft Beer. I’d imagine the lot is key when the Mission is busy. No frills space with some high top tables, a smaller bar, and 5 cooler doors. The beer selection is 16 draft, all California, available as full pours or 4 x 5 oz beer flights. 5 cooler doors, beer to go or $1 corkage for 12oz / $3 corkage for bombers. Friendly service.

70 = **½ (Locals should check it out, visitors with extended time)

I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“Visited for a late lunch on a Monday. Outer parking lot location in a shopping mall. Plenty of parking all around. Sports bar vibe inside, booths, tables and plenty of seating at the bar. Beer selection is 7 house beers of which 3 or 4 seemed to rotate. Brewpub food menu. Friendly service. Small outdoor patio. Sports on a bunch of tvs. Had a burger, which was quite tasty.

64 = ** (Just ok)

I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“Big U shaped wooden bar. Service was slow but friendly. Problems with the a/c when it’s hot outside (today), fake it till you make it! The beers are average, nothing stood out. I wouldn’t stop here for a beer (unless it’s a new one).“

“Another stop on my way to bytemesis’s house for a tasting. A little tasting room and brewery in a small business park. It’s actually kind of just on the other side of the freeway from the Fremont Total Wine, so maybe like a 5 minute drive.

They had eight beers on tap during my visit. I just did a set of four. They mostly do German styles, but also have some oddball things like a Triple Black IPA...okay. I thought a couple were okay and some not so good. Seems to fit in with my experience thusfar with this brewery. The people were friendly and they had the Sharks game on, so a fine enough place to just sit and try a couple beers.“

“My first Bay Area Total Wine tick. Woohoo. Stopped here on my way to bytemesis’s house, actually. Just off of 880 at Auto Mall Parkway, so super easy to get to. It’s in a huge shopping center and happens to be by a Panda Express, In N Out, and hot dog place in case you are dangerously low on calories.

Typical Total Wine setup here with a big open floor plan and shelves after shelf of booze. The beers are more toward the left hand side of the store (if you’ve got your back to the entrance). Pretty decent selection, as expected, with the usual rotten singles sitting out on the shelves...seemed a little light in the chilled beer department here. Anyway, I ended up scoring a SpontanBasil and the new Weheinstephaner kellerbier here but could easily have left with a huge selection of bottles. Plenty of interesting and limited/rotating/seasonal offerings from all over.“

“I can’t believe it took me so long to get here. Finally stopped in on a saturday. As B00by says, make that U-turn at the little "Beer Here" placard. Plenty of parking in the lot. Quiet - maybe 3-4 other folks drinking. 8 taps running. Samplers of four were $8 bucks, if I recall. There are a couple of tables and a small bar with a few seats at it. Would get messy if it were truly busy. Food is limited to bags of chips, pretzels and pickles. Guy working was super friendly and talkative; from him I learned that they are no longer on at Mission Pizza, where I discovered them a couple years ago. He was not sure why, but there was some sort of rift. I focused my sampler on new ticks, which meant German and English styles. All four were solid by my palate. The Pils was pretty tasty, but the "German Pale Ale" was the best of the day for me. I guess the next new beer is a rauch; done now and just waiting for something to kick, which makes me want to go back soon.“

“Now this is pretty awesome. First Total Wine in the bay area, grand opening going on now, which means a free tote and $10 off a $50 purchase. Plenty of parking in the mall area. In-and-out across the lot. I have been to my share of total wines, and this one is typical, newer and cleaner than normal of course. Wine is obviously the big draw, but they had about 6 shelves of beer, 3ish for multi-packs and the rest for singles. This is really the place to go if you just want one of something. Nicely organized by country and style, although they did not separate by state; those were all organized by style alone. Another place with IIPA’s rotting away on shelves, unfortunately. Selection was pretty solid, lots of interesting breweries all as singles. They had a dedicated shelf for "premium craft" which featured things like BCS, Pugachev, Gose Gone Wild, and the like. I came in to look around and get my place tick and left with 7 bottles of beer. There is also a dedicated beer tasting area; I didn’t try it, but it looked to be free. They had a new brewer every day (today was Drakes), but I am guessing that will die down after the grand opening was complete. Finally, the service - A-list all the way. Checkout girl was friendly and helpful and even ran her own coupon for me to save me $10, cause I was too dumb to pick one up on the way in. This place pretty much blows the doors off BevMo. It won’t replace my go-to high-end bottle shop, but it is really THE destination for mainline craft. I just wish it was a bit closer to home, and they refrigerated IPA’s.“

“As Joe says, in a solid area of town, but pretty ghetto inside. At least no porn that I saw. Most beers were in the cooler, but its one of those places that I would hesitate to buy an IPA from; it just doesn’t look like turnover is that great. Selection was in fact decent, and service was fair. They also have a tasting bar in the back with 14 taps running of mostly local craft stuff. Worth a visit.“

“In the area and decided to try it out. Pretty empty on a Sunday afternoon - maybe 4 total people inside when I arrived. Despite that the service was still slow at the bar. I think the bartender was the only person working other than kitchen staff, so she was responsible for everything and everyone, including making photocopies(!) and trying to eat her lunch. They had 8 taps I think, and the sampler included six of them, with customer choice on two seasonals. I ordered the wings on the recommendation of MrHoppy, and they were indeed solid. Beers ranged from pretty Meh to decent. Nothing really special, but nothing with major flaws other than the wheat. Prices seemed a bit hight ($9 for the flight, for example. Not a bad place.“

“I was half expecting another run down liquor store in a dated strip mall, but this place is actually in a pretty nice area of Fremont and in a nice building. Inside however is more ghetto and at first glance doesn’t look very promising, but all the goodies are in the back. They have most of the bottles in cold storage, but some are on the shelves as well. There were several things here that we don’t get up in the northern reaches of the East Bay. Lot’s of Red Branch and Rabbit’s Foot Meads and Ciders as well as some Mike Hess cans and other things I don’t normally see… What the? A Rayon Vert four pack from 2012! Jackpot! Only $8.99 too. Score. I’d be a bit wary of the stock on the shelves though as some stuff seemed a bit old. Buyer beware. They also have about 14 taps of very well selected draft beers. The guy running the place was very nice and attentive although I was the only person in the place. He gave me several samples of what they had on draft which was nice, and made some suggestions based on what his other customers like. The prices seemed maybe a touch high on most things, but reasonable. Overall, I was very happy with this place especially since I scored four bottles of vintage Rayon Vert. Service was great too. Highly recommended.“

“Visited May 17, 2014.

I’ve been eyeing this place on the map since sometime last year and finally decided to stop in. Be warned, if you’re coming from 880 S and you get off at Auto Mall when you make a U turn on Grimmer it’s a very immediate right (second driveway). There’s a small sandwich board on the sidewalk so look for that. Actually either of the first two driveways will work as they both lead to the same parking lot. The next two driveways take you to a private lot where the signs tell you that you’ll be towed. Luckily making u-turns is easy on Grimmer so if you miss then just make another pass.

So apparently these guys have been open, brewing, and selling to bars for about 5 years now, and finally opened a tasting room about a year ago. I had no idea. It turns out that all this time they’ve been brewing on a little 3 bbl system which would explain why I’ve never heard of them (not to mention they only distribute to a handful of bars). They’re actually in the process of buying some 15 bbl tanks but will still be brewing on the little system. They normally have 8 taps going but when I was there the one lager had kicked. They still had a pils and a Maibock so I could see how their lager brewing abilities were. No off flavors so that’s good, but just average quality. The hefe was probably my favorite because it was banana juice. The triple black IPA was kind of bad but they did give me a handful of chocolate chips to eat with the black IPA.

The one employee/server present was very friendly and I had an enjoyable time talking to her and the other customer at the bar, but in the end this is just another warehouse brewery in an industrial park. The over the top German-ness of the place was a nice touch. They had German music playing, obviously the name and some of the beers are German, and they of course have pretzels available (hard pretzels). Nice people. nice place, but the flights were a bit expensive. $7 for a flight of four.“

“Visited December 29, 2013.

I’ve been wanting to stop in here for several years now since it’s fairly close to our data center in Fremont. I’m just there too late usually or don’t want to stop in after a long day of work and then having to put in several more hours in a noisy data center. Glad I finally did stop and I’m glad that I really don’t have to go back. It’s in a mall but at least it’s on the edge of the grounds so parking and getting the hell away from the mall are easier.

I was expecting the worst from the beer, and while some of it was bad (like the porter and the wheat) I think a lot of the hate is people not giving the beer a fair shake and just hating to hate. The doppelbock was drinkable, bordering on decent. The IPA was actually very piney and dank. I was surprised. It was still a bit too sweet, murky, and like all the samples was served in those terrible whiskey glasses, but it was bordering on good. The DIPA wasn’t bad either though it was too boozy. I gave up long ago trying to fight for honest opinions, so what ever. Besides, the place isn’t all that great regardless of the beer. There was a group at the bar that were talking about football and drinking heavily that were friendly but beyond that there wasn’t much going on. The bartender must know them as she was chatting them up the whole time and I couldn’t even get a glass of water. Oh well.

I paid $7 for a flight of 6 beers. They normally do 5 to a flight but I guess you can order as many as you want.“

“Stopped in here on a whim after realizing no one has rated it yet. My rating would probably be higher based on the service and quality of the beers, but there is virtually no ambiance here. It’s basically a tiny spot in an industrial park. No seating inside, just a canopy with some rickety tables and chairs in the parking lot. They get some bonus points for spinning Bob Marley tunes. The service was very nice and attentive. The girl who was serving kept checking on me and seemed interested in what I thought of the beers... speaking of which, they were all pretty good. They only had four beers on that day (usually they have six) and all were above average. They had a new pilsner that was really clean and hoppy. Yum! There was also a 12% black ipa that was a little harsh, but not too bad. Overall, I would be happy supporting these guys. They seem very genuine and they’re making do with their less than stellar set up for now. The server said they are doing very well and hope to expand soon. I’ll be keeping my eye on them.“

“I didn’t have any issues with the staff as noted here; they seemed pretty friendly to me. Decent taplist, with some interesting local/CA beers. Advertised as 500 bottles, which seems a little high. Nothing to spectacular, but they had Lagunitas Sucks, which i have been looking for. All in all it is worth the visit if you are in the vicinity. Bottle prices run a bit high. “Pretty nice new place in Fremont. Good location right by the college. They have a pretty good selection of bottles, but nothing really amazing. The prices seemed a bit high. The bar area is very nice. It definitely has an upscale feel to the place, however the service is a little chilly. I was in there for about 15 minutes, and no one asked me if I needed any help. I ended up walking out since none of the bottles grabbed me, and the prices were high anyway. The tap list was thoughtfully put together with some nice locals. “I can’t believe I’ve never been here even though it’s only about 20 minutes from my house. It looks like any other small liquor store from the outside. The selection is very good, although limited. Only about half of the store is dedicated to beer, and it’s a pretty small store to begin with. The great thing about this place is the small tasting bar in the back. It’s very nicely put together and comfortable. You feel rather separate from the rest of the place. There’s a small TV and about 8 different beers and they offer samples for a buck a piece. Nice deal, considering they had a few one offs and expensive beers when I was there. There is a good singles selection which is a big plus for me. The service was very prompt and courteous. “Sports themed brewpub located in Fremont’s main shopping center, The Hub. I started off with a pint of Hefeweizen and it was a respectable take on a German wheat. The Garlic Fries are by far the best appetizer on the menu and worth checking out. I had a German sausage platter for my entree and it was good but a bit on the salty side.
