68 /100 BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse - Moreno Valley (Restaurant) 22920 CENTERPOINT DR Pretty much across the street from the BevMo. No new house beers for me, which was kind of a bummer--same ol’ regular line up and seemingly the same seasonals they’ve had forever across all the locations. They did have a couple of the usual guest taps like Stone IPA, and they had their berry cider as well. The lady at the bar was friendly, but it wasn’t terribly busy. Guess I was sort of in between lunch and dinner crowds. Prices, food, etc. are just like every other location. |
64 /100 Beverages and More (BevMo!) - Moreno Valley (Beer Store) 12625 FREDERICK ST Big new BevMo in a big shopping center. Selection is a bit lackluster, but I guess that’s to be expected for a BevMo, particularly in this area. They had most of the usual suspects from Stone, Alesmith, Anchor, Sierra Nevada, etc. as well as the big name imported Belgian and German beers. Place was decently busy on a Saturday afternoon, but that’s kind of typical. Service and pricing were pretty much standard for a BevMo store (adequate, but nothing exceptional in any sense of the word). If you live out here, probably your best option if you don’t want to drive to La Bodega or even further to El Cerrito. |

Brand new Bevmo. This can’t have been open more than a few weeks. It’s about the busiest Bevmo I’ve ever seen. That might be because it’s in a big shopping center or maybe because it’s new but I guess things are looking good for this location. The selection however isn’t very impressive. They have all the usual imports like Chimay, Rochefort, Orval, etc and they had a stack of Celebration ale that was about 6 weeks old already... Actually they had a bunch of IPAs that I enjoy but they were all out on the shelves. The only stuff in the fridges was the macro stuff and some of the big name stuff like Widmer, Pyramid, and Anheuser. I caught part of a conversation between a beer nerd customer who was trying to demonstrate how many beers he’s heard of and an employee that knew very little. Nice employees but like most Bevmo’s they aren’t the most knowledgeable about their own products. Prices were pretty good and I picked up several Vitus bottles for $2.66 a piece plus tax and CRV ($6 out the door for both). I won’t be driving all the way to Moreno Valley for this but if they stay this busy maybe the beers will rotate faster. |

This was an accidental find. I was heading back to the freeway and stopped for gas at the 7-11 across the street. While I was pumping gas I happened to see the BJ’s sign. I guess a lot of people on this site don’t bother with this chain because there aren’t very many ratings for them. Apparently this is the place to be. It was packed and the only parking spots to be found were the 20 minute spots (for take out orders). There was a line into the parking lot to get a table. I skipped all that and got the last seat at the bar. I was curious to see what seasonals were on tap but it was the same Hop Storm tap that’s been on for a while. I did get a pumplkin ale, which has always been pretty decent. They have a few guest taps too, half of which were Stone taps. I didn’t look at the food menu but I’m sure it’s the same as all locations, good but expensive. I didn’t look for a bottle list either so I can’t comment on that. This could be a fun place to hang out given how busy it is but 1) it’s in Moreno Valley and 2) it’s the same beer you can get at any BJ’s closer to you. Happy hour prices are good but I was there on a Friday evening so I wasn’t so lucky. |
