“Surprisingly good place. Good draft list (local rarities and breadth from the west coast) and a pretty excellent bottle cooler. Downside is that it's filled with the sort of people who will not care about the excellent craft beer on offer (testimonial to which are the copious varieties of terrible alcohol - Mike's, Zima, Smirnoff Ice, etc) on offer. But there's good stuff here if you're so inclined with some legit rarities in the cooler.“

This is about a block and a half from Pismo Brewing. Unlike Pismo Brewing these guys serve good beer. I didn’t expect much from what I saw on the outside, or even what I saw when I walked into the front gift shop area, but in the back they have quite the bottle selection and a number of good taps. The gift shop didn’t make much sense to me but whatever. Then you walk through a large pool hall with some arcade games around the edges of the room. Interesting. When I’m traveling I don’t feel like spending the time to shoot a game of pool but it’s nice to see a pool hall that has good beer. As for the beer, they have a dozen taps, almost all of which are interesting. The bottle list is moderately insane, and not just for a pool hall. They have half a dozen different Eclipse beers as well as some high end Bruery beers, and a bottle of Utopias… Seriously? Who thinks about buying a $200 bottle of beer to sip on while shooting pool and/or playing arcade games? Also in the fridge were Almanac sours, Cascade fruit beers, Hangar 24 limted releases, barrel aged Old Rasputin, and Bourbon County Barleywine. Wow. At a pool hall. In Pismo Beach. Who would have thought? “

The address was wrong in Ratebeer, but it’s not that big of a deterrent since the address (formerly) listed takes you to an empty lot that is fenced off and this building is the next one down. Parking can be difficult here since there aren’t many spots and the nearest parking lot is a couple block away. The building is right by the beach which is pretty nice, though since it’s two doors down and there is no patio you end up drinking in a bar without an ocean view when you could (should) be 50 yards further west and on the sand. Oh well. They’ve got a nice tap list, nothing special and I wouldn’t make this a destination, but you can get some Port beers as well as some Firestone after a day at the beach, or if you just need a break from the screaming kids. Service was friendly but as expected knew very little about the beer. Prices were high too. Personally, I’d walk a block up the hill and check out Hot Shots if you want a good beer. “

As usual I was skeptical when I saw that someone had added a grocery store to the database, but for a grocery store it’s not bad. They had a fridge full of hoppy beers and Firestone Parabola. There were several other fridges, a set of shelves, and an end cap dedicated to beer as well. One display was of Hangar 24’s Hammerhead barrel aged barleywine. They the rest of the alcohol area was dedicated to wine and liquor. They have a tasting bar in the back and they were just starting up a free whiskey tasting. I passed since I had to drive, and I don’t care for liquor, but it was a nice touch. All I ended up buying was a single of a Belgian IPA that was in the bargain bin (a shopping cart with a paper taped to it) and a couple of neat ceramic coasters with beer labels on them. Not the most amazing selection but I’m adding this to my list of places to check for Firestone releases when heading up the coast. “

“Good sized restaurant and bar visible from the 101 boasting 30 taps and decent wine list. The selection is pretty decent and when I visited they had SN Celebration which I always enjoy. The service was kinda slow when I was there, about a week after their grand opening, so its to be expected but I hope it gets better. The food was definitely the highlight and is a good enough reason for a return visit.“

“Needed a quick stop on the drive up north and decided to make it here. Pretty basic liquor store, but I’d imagine one of the better options in the area. Most of the beers are on the shelf. A pretty basic selection of California beers with your typical Central Coast offerings (given the area). Prices on beers were generally what you’d expect. Not really anything worth writing home about.“

“This place has a Whole Foods feel about it both in terms of the healthy, organic, overpriced food items and the beer selection as well. They probably currently have the best selection in the area. They have a cooler with the typical bottles, but additionally they carry some harder to find stuff (harder to find in this area, not necessarily anywhere). I was pleasantly surprised to find a decent selection beers from Mikkeller. Despite the high prices I’m sure I’ll be back here regularly.“

“Pool hall located across the street from Pismo Market. It can be really crowded in the summer when the tourists flood Pismo. The tap list is dominated by domestic micros, more specifically west coast brews. They usually have a selection from each Alaskan, Deschutes, Sierra Nevada, Firestone and Bear Republic, and so on. As for the place itself, there are probably 12-15 pool tables, air hockey and loud music in a big ass room. Also they have a snack bar that produces everything from a deep fryer for better or for worse...“

“Decent beer selection; one of the best in the area but there isn’t much competition in the area either. Nothing rare or special and prices are average. It is a shame that most of the better beers are on the shelves and not in the cooler. They save the cooler the money makers- BMC and malt liquor“

“On a side street not too far from the Pismo pier. Has the feel of a ’50s dinner inside and they serve their beers with a few guest taps. I opted for the pale and it wasn’t good. Maybe worth checking just to see if any of their beers are better or to pick up some new rates.“

Decided to stop in because it’s right off the freeway and because it’s the only place in Pismo that I haven’t been to (of the two listed here). Standard looking liquor store with local beach combers buying cheap liquor but also a decent beer selection. All the standard CA and import beers but the stand out was the 8 or so bottles each of Abacus and Parabola, though they were $20 and $18 respectively, no limit. On the way out I noticed that this place is about 100 steps from Pismo Brewing so away we went. Vitus Positive.“

“Cute little place near downtown Pismo. Mostly just a tasting room but they were also offering some kind of hot dog special. 5 of their regular beers plus 2 of their special/seasonal a on tap. Not amazing beers but certainly decent. Worth the stop in if you are in the area.“

“Interesting little place. A little whole in the wall market that happens to have a decent selection of beer. Lots of Cali beers plus some imports. Prices seem pretty fair.“

“HOLY CRAP! Found this place unexpectedly while driving through Pismo beach. Went to collect a few beers to have at the hotel. Wow what a surprise. Wanted to cry when I went in here. They have everything from hard to find Firestone walker to belgian beers. And when you think you’ve seen all the beers you notice more shelves with more beers. If you are anywhere near this place you must check it out. Your are bound to find some super rare and hard to find beers. A++“

“Pretty small brewery/taproom. They had a deal going for pints that included a glass, but scrolled past to the flight instead. The beers were pretty mediocre, unfortunately. One girl behind the bar who ways friendly an helpful. Prices were okay, too. Don’t really see much of a need to come back here, though.“

“Visited 12/26/2012 for the first time.

I heard about this place a year ago and heard that they were bottling but I havent been able to find any of their beers in LA county. Luckily they’re right off of 101 near San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles.

Small place with maybe 10 seats at the bar and 4 or 5 tables against the wall. Very friendly atmosphere. If you are into collecting glasses for $10 you get the pint glass filled and you can keep the glass. I think the refills are only $2.50 after that. It was also about $10 for the flight of 6 house beers. The best beer on tap was probably the brown ale.

Service was friendly. Dont think they serve food but there are plenty of restaurants in the area.“

“A small brewpub. Service was very friendly. Their beers are a bit hit and miss but it’s well worth a visit if you are in the area.“
