76 /100 Library Alehouse (Restaurant) 2911 MAIN ST Cool place with a bunch of local California stuff and some other entries. Pretty well curated list with lots of Russian River, Fremont and other West Coast stuff. Flights available at $15 for four. Food was great as well, I had the Korean quesadilla while was awesome. Friendly service. |
100 /100 Burgers n Brews (Bar) 3021 LINCOLN BLVD Best place to watch games a lot of TVs
18 taps Best Selection of beers |
74 /100 395 SANTA MONICA PLACE Large place on the top floor of a 3rd St. shopping plaza, walkable distance form the beach. Quite large outside area and a long bar with several tap of their own brews. Staff not too excited, but ok. Prices ok. Flights available (4 pours for 8$). Ok place. |
72 /100 1920 COLORADO AVENUE, SUITE C Very loud place. But this is place to drink beer and chat with friends, so why need to wait silence from it? Good selection of local beer. |
80 /100 Daily Pint (Bar) 2310 PICO BLVD Good selection on tap and bottled. All other is nothing special. Common bar where you can drink a good beer. |
72 /100 West 4th and Jane (Bar) 1432 4TH STREET Visited on an early Monday afternoon in February 2019. A relaxed place (at least during my visit) with a friendly service. I only hade one beer during my visit. Would not hesitate to visit this place again in the future. |
68 /100 395 SANTA MONICA PLACE Visited on a Monday in February 2019. The place was fairly large with a patio. It was not crowded at all during my visit. The service was fast and friendly. I had a flight and a pizza. The beers were decent as was the pizza. A decent place in Santa Monica that had 27 beers on tap during my visit. |
72 /100 West 4th and Jane (Bar) 1432 4TH STREET Went here after some delicious Mexican food (if you're not local to LA, the Mexican food is top-notch). I was relatively unimpressed by this. The selection is fine - nothing super rare though and definitely stuff you'll see elsewhere in the country (don't know why they needed two Sixpoint beers on draft, and common ones at that). This place is more eclectic than focusing on any one thing. Thing is, California is so amazing when it comes to beer that places that specialize in CA beer will do it better because the beer will be fresher.
If you wind up here it is perfectly fine. But it's not worth going out of your way for unless you really, really want the Founders' Hangouts badge on Untappd (which I already had received). |
80 /100 Library Alehouse (Restaurant) 2911 MAIN ST Went on a Friday night - pretty full with two open seats at the bar. Decent service, decent heavily California tap list. Nothing super rare but they did have two Russian River things on draft so you know they have good connections. Everything I had was good - very good. No bottles so selection is a bit narrow and no super rarities but this was a solid single-double. |
66 /100 West 4th and Jane (Bar) 1432 4TH STREET There is a special badge |
70 /100 Library Alehouse (Restaurant) 2911 MAIN ST 23 years finally i'm here. high five me. absolutely gorgeous location. library alehouse. |
88 /100 West 4th and Jane (Bar) 1432 4TH STREET 12/19/17 - Day trip to LA Beaches and caught two places for excellent brews. This was my first stop. Nice bar, great bartender, excellent tap options. A bit pricey on pours, though they have some excellent hard to find offerings from brewers like Bottle Logic. Ordered a $12 pretzel, tasted good but very small for the price. Had three great beers, overall great place with great service and plenty of great pours. |
94 /100 Library Alehouse (Restaurant) 2911 MAIN ST Super wybór, kran i butelki, świetne jedzenie, ideał |
78 /100 1920 COLORADO AVENUE, SUITE C Finally got to try the taproom for the first time after patiently waiting for it to open on previous LA visits. Although based in a warehouse...the taproom is quite good looking with some very cool beach art and décor. It’s a large taproom with plenty of room to sit and to hang out. The brewery itself is quite large...as it is a production brewery. From the outside you wouldn’t expect this place to come off so well once inside. There were 5 standard beers (these are beers they can and sell elsewhere) as well as 8 seasonals when I visited a couple of weeks ago. Of the standards...the IPA (Inclined) and milk porter (PCH) were my favorites...but the specials were definitely a cut above those. The standout was the Head in the Clouds juicy double IPA (New England style)...I ended up buying 2 crowlers of this...drank one in Vegas and flew one home to NJ! Also great was the Buffalo Trace Bourbon Barrel PCH, the Cucumber Kolsch, and the Chile Pepper Pale. I think these guys are doing a very good job and making this into a must visit when in the area (2 blocks from the metro no less!). Given the basically good previous review I would suggest a higher rating was worthy then as I’ve given now. |
68 /100 1920 COLORADO AVENUE, SUITE C Stumbled across this tasting room on 20th St. on my way to getting back on the freeway. Very warm and comfortable interior with an open view of the brewing apparatus. Food truck outside, though I didn’t partake. A dozen or so beers on tap - all of their regulars plus some experimentals and one-offs, though some had been tapped out. $12 for 4 tasters. $7 to $10 for a pint. |
70 /100 1018 MONTANA AVE [11/1/08] |
70 /100 Blue Plate Oysterette - Santa Monica (Restaurant) 1355 OCEAN AVE. Great restaurant with a small but interesting selection of beers, with an emphasis on local LA/CA breweries. The food here is great. The value overall is pretty good. Ditto the service. This isn’t a place to come specifically for the beer, but if you want some great seafood and a beer, this is a solid option. |
92 /100 Library Alehouse (Restaurant) 2911 MAIN ST Great taplist, great burgers, nice personnel. The best beer-experience on my LA-trip. |
78 /100 Whole Foods Market - Santa Monica (Grocery Store) 2201 WILSHIRE BLVD Biggest selection of craftbeer in Santa Monica, most from California (Alpine, Russian River, Ballast Point, Lost Abbey, Ironfire, Bear Republic, m.m.) and from the rest of the world. If you cant find what you are looking for, you can ask the friendly staff. They got me the last Pliny ;-) |
80 /100 Library Alehouse (Restaurant) 2911 MAIN ST Visited on a Saturday afternoon in March 2016. Located in central Santa Monica, around 15 minutes walk from my hotel. The place was not that big. The service was friendly and good. I liked the selection, some interesting beers on tap and bottle. The hamburger that I had was tasty. A pleasant place to visit in Santa Monica. |
64 /100 Whole Foods Market - Santa Monica (Grocery Store) 2201 WILSHIRE BLVD Visited a couple of times in March 2016 when staying in Santa Monica. The store felt cramped and the beer selection was not that big. (at least compared to the fantastic Whole Foods in Portland that I visited during the same US-trip) Still an ok selection with some interesting beers from California. |
46 /100 Library Alehouse (Restaurant) 2911 MAIN ST Looked like a really cool joint. Came on a Friday night and place was decently busy, service was beyond brutal though. I had one beer and planned to have several more throughout the evening. Server wanted us to get entrees and get us out. Lame because tap list looked great. |
84 /100 Daily Pint (Bar) 2310 PICO BLVD The Daily Pint is a refreshingly divey bar. Actually, if a good tap list is a requirement, this may be the only one in Santa Monica. The inside is pretty large and they have shuffleboard and a projection TV. If you’re into cask ales, they have a few that you probably won’t find elsewhere in town. The bartender was efficient and fittingly surly. I was trying to make it a point to drink as local as possible beer while here, and it was more difficult here than the other places I went to. I think they only had two or three local beers that had small distribution. The overall lineup is of very good quality, however. Prices were fair, a little lower than the other beer bars I went to. |
88 /100 Library Alehouse (Restaurant) 2911 MAIN ST This is a cozy, nicer gastropub. The inside is clean and has a small bookshelf and decorative ladder to hint at the library theme. The blazing hot outdoor heaters were going even though it was 60 degrees outside and sunny. Of course sweater clad Yuppies were gathered around them. Cracks me up. The beer list here is well put together with plenty of local and regional offerings. Beer and food prices, except the oddly inexpensive and tasty chicken wings, are Los Angeles appropriate. Service was good and atmosphere is pleasant. |
90 /100 Library Alehouse (Restaurant) 2911 MAIN ST One of the oldest beer bars in the US but doesn’t feel it. No flaws. Great selection of IPAs pretty reliably. |
80 /100 1018 MONTANA AVE Long, narrow bar. Very dim, dark even. One sports TV with sound off. Quite busy on a Tuesday night -- three of us had to line up behind a single bar stool.Good and balanced tap list, divided into 10-12 each of Malty, Hoppy, etc. Very friendly and efficient staff. The "Office Burger" was wonderful. This is certainly one of the better places in the area. |
62 /100 Whole Foods Market - Santa Monica (Grocery Store) 2201 WILSHIRE BLVD Smallish beer selection (for a Whole Foods store) in a narrow aisle located along the wall across from the main entrance. Okay for California stuff. Some imports. Nice line-up of Bruery bottles. Worth a stop if you are in the area. |
92 /100 Library Alehouse (Restaurant) 2911 MAIN ST Great food. Great tap list. Great service. Superb little area it’s in. Go here! |
92 /100 Daily Pint (Bar) 2310 PICO BLVD Wow. Some rare breed but the liquor. Holy moly. Service was great. Awesome dive bar. Loved it. |
86 /100 Stout Burgers & Beer - Santa Monica (Restaurant) 111 N SANTA MONICA BLVD Great beer list, always rotating. Food is great, simple but good choices. |

Nothing too special, beer was in too shape. Conical pint pours only. Fun place for pool or I guess fussball. |
70 /100 Andrew’s Cheese Shop (Grocery Store) 728 MONTANA AVE Small place on Montana in Santa Monica. The selection of beers is modest in number but makes up for that in quality: the bottles here have been very carefully chosen and include some uncommon and delightful offerings. Prices shade to the high side but I suspect the rent around here ain’t cheap.
Don’t even get me started about the wonderful cheeses... |
88 /100 Library Alehouse (Restaurant) 2911 MAIN ST on the main st, parked up the hill a bit at a meter. small empty bar on a monday afternoon, covered patio area in the back. set of 4 samplers available at various prices. Got some alpine hoppy birthday, and a 3 flight sample of BA Lost abbey from an event. |
86 /100 Library Alehouse (Restaurant) 2911 MAIN ST Fairly small restaurant and bar with a nice, clean, light wooden interior. They also have a cool patio in the background. Just a very pleasant feeling to the place, particularly in the afternoon with the sun shining in.
The service at the bar was very friendly and quick (admittedly I was one of three customers in the place). The beer list was well done with a large variety of styles. A lot of the beers were from El Segundo from some event they were having, which was nice since there were a bunch I hadn’t tried. They serve flights here ($10 for four pours), which is good because $8 seemed to be the going rate for a full glass. Yikes. Food is quite good and fairly reasonably priced, particularly for Santa Monica/Los Angeles. I will say that this is a very solid bar/restaurant. It’s even more notable given a sort of barren LA beer scene. Highly recommend if you’re in West Los Angeles. |
86 /100 Library Alehouse (Restaurant) 2911 MAIN ST This was a very nice, friendly beer bar with a great selection. The ambiance was pretty standard. The place was pretty old, for craft beer standards. The crowd on a Tuesday was mostly middle-aged men and a crew of fixed-gear biker guys. The guy behind the bar was really pleasant and very talkative (which was fine for me because I came alone). The selection was good, mostly Californian (apparently they consider environmental impact in choosing the beers... even though they had Victory Pilsner as well). If and when I go back to LA, I am sure to stop here. Relatively good prices too. |

This has a full kitchen as well that closes late and their food is very good. Fancier burger and fries, which are top notch. Alpine Nelson on tap, fresh keg. Prima Pils and a slew of local brewery medley. Impressed and will be back. |
66 /100 1018 MONTANA AVE Small bar but a decent amount of seating for the space. 30+ taps and a reserve list of 20 beers. Chatty and buzzy crowd but not loud. Pricing higher than what might be the norm elsewhere in California. Couldn’t bring the kids given the bar licence. Didn’t eat bu the menu looked very good. |
60 /100 Umami Burger - Santa Monica (Restaurant) 500 BROADWAY As per the other reviews. The burgers are completely awesome (best I’ve ever had?) and the best list is serviceable but nothing more. 9 taps and some good stuff on my visit (Goose Matilda, DFH 90) so yes the beer is very much a side show to the food and not a reason to visit in it’s own right. Can get busy and noisy. |
76 /100 Library Alehouse (Restaurant) 2911 MAIN ST I think this should be the 1st place one stops, while in Santa Monica. It’s more spacious than Father’s Office, but, in my opinion doesn’t have as good of a draught selection. Anyways, my co-worker and I were able to walk right up to the bar, and grab some seats. Bar service was great. They have a lot more seating in the back, which I didn’t find out until I had to rock a piss, so if and when you go, if they have open seating, head to the back, if the front is full. I just had a salad to eat, which was good, but I can’t comment on the food other than a salad. My co-worker said his wings were really good. Anyways, solid place, with a good vibe. Not the greatest draught selection, but it’s certainly not bad in any light. |
48 /100 Obrien’s Irish Pub (Bar) 2226 WILSHIRE BLVD This is just barely eligible for a ratebeer entry- Irish dive bar that happens to serve enough local beer to qualify: The Dudes, Angel City, Ballast Point (every gas station in California carries Sculpin now). Ambiance is low light, low ceilings, loud. Beers are poured super cold into American pints with no head. Prices are not that bad as the bar isn’t in the greatest location sort of off on its own and nowhere near the Santa Monica nightlife. It’s across the street from SaMo Whole Foods, which is an okay store. Better check out some other places in the area though as this is the bottom of the barrel for ratebeer places. |
