“Stopped by here because its right across the street from South Shore Brewery. Ample parking. Staff friendly and offered help. Selection meh. Lots of out of date stuff, small selection with lots of repeats across the store, and a BYO section with only the most common stuff and no locals. Pricy. Meh, but I suppose its OK if you live here and its the best you got.“

“Came here because I'd enjoyed the stuff I'd had in bottles. Place is huge, with several rooms. Bar towards the left. Comfortable, old school space. Bartender was friendly but service was passive. Did not try the food. 8 beers on tap with some guest taps. Flight of all house beers was $8.00. Quality was really good across the board, though the lactose in an Irish stout was odd and detracted from the beer. This place has an old school vibe but the beer doesn't come across that way. Worthwhile stop.“

“Very nice place to visit and eat at in Ashland. Décor is quite attractive...place is sizable...food is very tasty. They are a brewery too...and the beers were good...but not great. When I visited they had a nut brown, pilsner, wheat, cherry sour, pale ale, and a coffee mint stout. Another of many places we often come across on road trips that have better than macro beer craftbeer...thereby being something good to compliment the food...but nothing to write home about or remember much several days further down the road. So...visit if passing thru...try the beers...especially if you choose to eat here...but don't worry about passing this place by if it's not in your plans.“

“Nice place. Food was good. Bartender claimed there were not enough varieties to do a flight.“

“Grabbed some lunch here on a Monday while on vacation in Ashland, WI in Spring 2011. South Shore Brewery is part of the Deep Water Grill which they have a resturant, bar, and a brewery for drinking there and they also bottle for retail sale; the closest place to buy it is right across the street at Star Liquor. The service was the standard good service you expect. Had a standard variety of sit down food/meals as well as special seafood dishes. Got a lot more food than I was expecting for the price and it was nice to have a local store made brew instead of the major macro-brews which were only $4 a glass. Something nice to try if up north!“

“I hit up this small town Liquor Store in Ashland, WI while on vacation in Spring 2011. For a small town of 10,000 this was a really good store in Northern Wisconsin. Went in on a Monday morning to pick up some local beers. There was help if I needed it, but being a beer snob there was no need for help haha. Decent variety of singles, six-packs, macro-brews, and mix & match. Found a number of products I’ve never seen before in a 70,000+ city. Walked out with a mix and match 6 pack, and several craft singles from local breweries and Samuel Smith’s. Service was very friendly!“

“A solid selection of Wisconsin craft beer, including New Glarus, and a good liquor selection too. It is not a cheese shop, no matter what their website says, but there is a small cooler with Wisconsin cheese. High prices, $8.99 for a New Glarus six pack. No service, but I don’t need help choosing my beer.“

“September 2nd, 2012. A nice place, I understand this is their third location. Good, cheffy menu with a lot to choose from. my sausage was ok, but their wild rice soup is excellent. Service was as attentive as necessary. Try a beer flight for only $5. There are not a lot of options in this area of Wisconsin, so I recommend a stop here. It is only 25 miles from White Winter winery.“

“Visited on Nov. 18, 2011. Awesome atmosphere - very cozy. Only had 5 beers on this day and the service was just okay, but a good experience nonetheless. I had the chicken enchiladas, which were terrific.“

“Excellent food and nice variety of beers on tap. The ambiance was very cozy. We were in a snug booth with its own little light. Tried the Nut Brown Ale, their signature beer, and was very pleased with it. Also gave the Coffee Mint Stout a try. It was interesting, but the mint flavor was pretty overpowering. We really enjoyed our meal and would definitely go back next time we’re in the area.“

“Beautiful place right downtown, nice use of wood, dark green and brown furniture, huge comfy booths for big Wisconsin bellies; 2 nice looking bars and a cool balcony....food was good, a black bean burger and outstanding waffle fries, fairly typical menu....samples on the small size, and most not that good though nothing was terrible. A worthwhile stop but I can’t imagine going out of my way for it unless perhaps on the way to White Winter Winery in Iron River, or up to Bayfield.“

“Decent place. I wish they rotated their beers more often and had a little bit bigger selection. But they achieve what they set out to do. Food is pretty decent and prices are good. Cool building.“

“Is a nice setting, esp considering where you are. I really don’t go for the nautical theme too much. Bar is very nice, bartender was hungover...always a good sign. Friendly place. Food is fine. Beers are above average, with some originality. The old train station location was much better..but this is a great place to visit.“

“Walking into this place was like strolling into a lodge in the middle of the Northwoods. Beautiful wood and dark green motif. The staff seems to have a clue about the beer they serve, which tends to be 4 regulars and 2 seasonals. I had the beer cheese soup which was probably the best I have ever had. It’s probably not worth the trek if you’re only in Duluth, but if you’re crossing Northern Wisconsin anyway, be sure to stop.“
