72 /100 Wild Tomato (Restaurant) 4023 WISCONSIN 42 Great beer selection . Great service. Always packed |
86 /100 Wild Tomato (Restaurant) 4023 WISCONSIN 42 Look for the circle sign on the road, it doesn’t look like much, a stripped down shack with patio umbrellas and an outside bar. First thing I noticed was the chalkboard with JP Weizen Bam on tap, plus an entirely craft draft list, around 8 or so total. They apparently had run out of the recently launched Door County Brewing beers, but their beer selection eclipsed every other bar in Door County, and beyond. It was on the level of specialty bars in Milwaukee and Madison, which was surprising for the area.
There was a wait for tables, so we stood under some fir trees with the affluent tourist crowd and their children, decked out in designer clothes. It was pretty easy to get a drink at the tiny outdoor bar station.
Once seated on the patio, we checked out the bottle list and were surprised again to see Tilquin on the menu for a relatively affordable $14 (compared to $18+ in Chicago). Drafts were in the $6 range, JP was only $6.50. Selection was extensive, options from Founders, Bruery, GI BCS (on the cellar list), Central Waters, Ale Asylum, and many others. Vintage beers like ’11 Sofie, JW Lees, BCS, etc.
PIzza was pretty good, although the crust was totally blackened around the edges, though not on the bottom. The wood-fired crust reminded me of Robeys back home, ingredients were fresh and unique.
Brittany was our server and good about keeping glasses filled and chatting despite the patio being at capacity. The crowd left a little to be desired, but the beer selection was top notch and the pizza was good. Make this your #1 stop in Fish Creek. |
72 /100 The Cookery (Restaurant) 4135 HWY 42 This was a great restaurant with a fair amount of WI beers and a handful of seasonals (menu online). NG Black Top was the best they had. Nothing wild to get excited about, just something decent to pair with a meal. Vibe was sunny, great little porch deck patio, local art on the walls. Food was top notch. |
86 /100 Wild Tomato (Restaurant) 4023 WISCONSIN 42 Visiting Door County and you don’t think you will be able to find a good beer. Not to worry if you stop by the Wild Tomato. Even tho they have a limited beer selection, what is on their list is some of the best you can get, Did I tell you that the service is top notch and ohhh the food, Yep this is the place to stop at for a beer and some good food. If the weather isn’t good, the seating inside is very limited. When the weather is good. a beer from the outside bar is just the ticket while you wait for your table |
92 /100 Wild Tomato (Restaurant) 4023 WISCONSIN 42 They may only have 5 taps inside and add 3 more in the summer on the patio but all their taps are quality and the taps are always rotating with local beers and plenty of Belgian imports. Huge bottle list with an emphasis on Belgian beers and other American craft brews. Was told they have a decent sized beer cellar that they will be featuring soon. This past summer I had a bottle of KBS on the patio. Came in recently and had a bottle of Bourbon County Coffee. Best selection in the area by far. |
90 /100 The Cookery (Restaurant) 4135 HWY 42 Nice selection of mostly WI brews and a few other gems. |
72 /100 The Cookery (Restaurant) 4135 HWY 42 Has New Glarus Belgian Red on tap, which is hard to find. Beer selection is small, but there are a few winners in there. Great food too - big into organic and local ingredients. |
