“Place a little full on a Saturday afternoon. Had their core, BGW, and some seasonals on draft. Service was awesome. They offered pretzels and mustard to munch on which was a nice touch. Purchased some BGW's beers and price was decent. A nice little place to stop by if your in the area.“

“Located in a storefront. Tiny place. Cozy It was very festive when I arrived. Place was packed with a beer class about to start, Kids all over the place. Seemed like a kid's birthday party but it's an odd venue for that. Small bar but I easily found a seat. A few tables. 7 of their beers on tap with a couple guest taps. Their beers are all solid, but need tweaking. All were drinkable, but two were over-carbed and one took on a distinct sulfur aroma as it warmed. Didn't see any sign of food. Bartenders (pretty sure they're the owners) were extremely friendly and service was prompt. Flight of 4 5-ish ounce pours for $12. Easy and free street parking. Very easy access from I-94. This is a nice place, and I expect it to improve. Tyranena has been in Lake Mills for years, and this place makes a nice addition to a small but high quality scene.“

“Randomly found this place. Wanted a place near the highway to fulfill my (legal) pharmaceutical needs and found a nice beer selection here. It's a normal grocery store but it has some charm. Smallish BYO sixer selection for $9.99 was meh. Good selection otherwise though. Most of the beer was chilled. Huge selection of the hometown brewery so if you're driving by when Tyranena is closed stop here. Wide selection of other Wisconsin breweries including a few limited releases. Not worth going too far out of the way but it's just a short drive from the interstate.“

“Maybe I just need to stop coming here on Saturdays because it is always jammed and there’s no place to sit or even stand to enjoy the beer and live music. That said, despite the masses the cheerful staff still offers samples if you’re unsure what to order from the enormous and enormously helpful blackboard, the price tops out at 4 bucks a glass and the beer is consistently delicious. Tyranena Inc. has added nice brewing capacity to the building in recent years. Next time they’re adding on, I hope they blow out one or more of the taproom walls and give more people the room they need to enjoy the expertise of this great Wisconsin brewery.“

“Just off I-94, and not too deep into an industrial park, this place has the look and feel of a standard taproom / brewery - in a good way. Once you enter the place, it’s warm and welcoming without being over the top. Finding seating on a Sunday afternoon during NFL playoff season wasn’t difficult (although the Packers weren’t playing). You’re definitely surrounded by midwest friendliness as the place is a pleasant blend of locals and beer adventurers - and the locals aren’t shy about chatting. The service was friendly and knowledgeable, and there was a good selection - considering they only serve their beers - their 5 regular rotation, 2 seasonal, 3 experimentals, and 2 "specialties" consisting of an Pumpkin Imp Porter, and a Wine Barrel Aged Brown. The downside was that, as far as sampling goes, they only offer two options, 3x samplers of your choosing, or a pre-selected flight of 9 (or pints of course), but with the 3x sampler package, you can’t order a second round of samples ... weird rules, but oh well, the flight of 9 has an awesome price tag ($10 for 5 oz samples!) and covers their standards, seasonal, and specialties quite nicely. I was informed that they do live music pretty regularly that sets up right in the tap room and plays ambient music so as not to disturb any conversations.“

“Stopped by shortly after they open at 4:30. Not too crowded. Bartender was friendly and offered samples. About 10 taps which includes 3 seasonals. Prices were fair. No food available. Didn’t sample anything poorly crafted.“

“Arrived right at the opening bell on a Tuesday in July. There was a handful of other folks there too, a good sign. The bartender was nice and efficient, maybe not as beer savvy as you’d expect ... correct pronunciation is a pet peeve of mine. The tasting room was clean, neat and attractive, as well as quite comfortable. There’s also a nice outdoor patio. All the beers we tried were in the average range, but all were also without technical flaw, displaying great cleanliness. Nice place. (Brewery #604)“

“A favorite Wisconsin brewery with easy access from I-94. In an industrial building on the east end of town. Gets quite busy some evenings, with lots of local residents. Devil over a barrel and barrel-aged imperial porter are very tasty, but cannot be purchased in a growler. Recently bought a growler of sheep shagger scotch ale for $8.50 and was very pleased. They will only fill their growlers. No food other than pretzels and brown mustard. Can bring in food.“

“Brewpub by itself on the edge of town. Small bar area with 15 stools and 5 pub tables, plus an outdoor patio. Going there on a music night - it was good music - meant no room. 12 taps, including a single guest, and 2 hustling tenders. It is a place with its own ambiance, and not bad, but also not the most inviting place around.“

“Brewpub has a quint British Pub feel to it. The staff are always willing to give you free samples if you aren’t sure what you’d want. Their selection is quite excellent, you can buy 6 packs there for a good price, and if you want a souvenir glass they are also well priced. Should I ever find myself in that neck of the woods again, I will be stopping there again!“

“Big production brewery with a nice little tasting room and not far off the highway. Service, selection and value were all above average. Some really tasty beers. Very cool, low key place that I’d see myself hanging out at if I lived near by.“

“great brewery in a state with very good breweries. A drive from Madison, and a bit of a day trip from Milwaukee. Check the hours before you go. I had no indication it was open only at 430 pm and doors locked to the very minute. A decent sized room with a bar and tables, and lots of great glasses to try or buy. Not that much of a selection but of course all very good beers. Bartenders were competent, and i was nit getting answers by these ladies to basic technical questions. Most staff concerned with the big orders, and the multi growler fills. Being allergic to dogs, the constant presence of one by staff was not helpful.“

“Stopped here on the way to GTMW. It was packed right at opening with others headed in town as well. I have to fault the management here as they did not have beer to go stocked, they were out of growlers, and people were kind of hanging out in an office while the bar area was way the heck understaffed. I have to say though that the young lady working the bar and the tables did one hell of a good job. If there had been 3 people working in that room they all would have been busting ass. Kudos to her. Big open room with a long bar. Tables in the back. Nice ambience. There was a brewery dog which is always cool. It’s an industrial park setting, so there is plenty of parking. No food, but you can have food delivered. Samples were available for a buck each. Prices for pints didn’t seem to expensive but as I was heading to the GTMW pre-parties I dare didn’t indulge.“

“Driving from Minneapolis to Milwaukee this is a short stop off the highway. You pull up to a newer looking wharehouse. You walk in to an office on the right, the brewery straight back and a bar to the right. The bar is spacious and new looking, but pretty boring overall. At least there is a cool selection of clothing to buy on the wall. The beer available was 6 regulars and 3 special beers that we’re nothing at all special. The server was fairly knowledgeable and pleasant. They offered no food which sucked as we were famished. This place is in the middle of no-where offer some food. Not a place worth going if your traveling buy. Their beers aren’t great and the chances are they won’t have anything special.“

“Stopped in on 10/16/10. Nothing extravagant about this place; just a taproom. But it’s a taproom that serves Tyranena beers. Great beer and friendly service. I don’t need anything else.“

“A nice little tasting room in a non-descript industrial brewery. 9 or so taps of their beer. Nice little patio beer garden with a gas grill that you can use to cook your own food. Friendly service and friendly dogs hanging around the bar. Decent prices for beer for there and to go. Did not get to do the tour.“

“I stopped here for a short visit with my wife, friend and a few other beerpals. I’ve been wanting to check it out for quite some time now. Having been a huge fan of Tyranena for years, our visit seemed long over due. Nice little bar area with all the fixins. A very unassuming place. If you didn’t know your way around Lake Mills (which i don’t) you would probably pass by this place not knowing it was even a brewery. A friendly little biergarten in the back with friendly dogs to accompany it. Overall, it was a nice visit and i will have to make sure i stop by again very soon.“

“I visited the tasting room by myself on a sunday. It was around 1:30pm. when I arrived and there was about 3 other people there. They where locals and came to watch some college basketball. I was there just to have some beer. I ended up trying the 9 samples they had and two pints. I stayed for two basketball games and had a great time talking to the locals and the other people coming in and out to purchase growlers. Definite must stop if you’re in the area and want some pretty good craft beer and chat with some nice small town folks!!!“

“Disappointing. Completely. This rating would be twice as high if they’d had Spank Me Baby on tap, but they didn’t. The bartender was kind of a tard, too, knew nothing about beer, and gave me the wrong change.“

“Quick stop off of 94, and worth checking out just to see what couple of rarities they have on tap. We just went to the tasting room, as tours weren’t going when we got there. Ten beers on tap when we visited, including BA Spank Me Baby and an Oktoberfest (I’d had everything else in bottles). Solid service, relatively cheap prices, and the locals are really friendly. Outside seating area and a well-furnished bar. Comfortable, quick stop between Milwaukee and Madison.“

“Small tasting room bar inside the brewery in Lake Mills. Cozy atmosphere with only Tyranena on tap, including Pretty Damn Black Stout, the reason for the stop. The night I went they had live music playing to a crowd somewhere around 30. It was non-smoking but there was a golden retriever dog walking around in the bar… a very friendly dog that would knock into my legs every ten minutes or so. While the musical genre the day I went wasn’t up my alley, I would go back to see something that was. There were games available to be played too – backgammon, chess, cribbage, etc.“

“A nice cozy bar. The staff is very nice and talkative, always willing to answer questions or give a quick refill. They provided me with all the snacks that I wanted. Many people were there just talking, it wasn’t loud or rowdy at all. I know they have breakfast specials on Sunday but other than that there is no menu, which is sort of a bummer. The Brewmaster shows up a lot and seems to be available for questions and conversation.“

“Clean and industrial. Nothing out of the ordinary on tap, apparently I just missed the aged barley wine they had on tap. the bar area was cozy and the staff was friendly. They had a brew tour we went on which was short and to the point with a decent guide showing all of the equipment off. Overall worth the stop if you like the beer.“

“This is one of my favorite haunts.. too bad that it isn’t convenient for where I live. The small-ish indoor seating area is cozy, and more importantly non-smoking!! They have some nice TVs for game watching and set out little snacks occasionally. Their beers are significantly better on tap here than in bottles, and there are usually 1-2 special non-bottled beers available. Prices are very good, and the staff is most always friendly and attentive. They have regularly-scheduled concerts that are a blast (often folk/bluegrass type bands), and during the summer these are outside in the patio area, with a large surrounding grassy space for picnics, frisbee, kids running around. Very family (and dog) friendly. I stop here whenever I have the chance.“

“Visited on 6/9. Had visited before to find the place closed. The bar is well done, and the outside beer garden offered plenty of space for drinking and for tossing around the football. They offered live music, which brought out a number of people, probably 40 in total. Tap selection was impressive. Service was a bit lacking -- the bartender was slow and not all that eager to help us it seemed.“

“I visited the brewery on a Sunday in the dead of winter, but I was still impressed by the casual warmth of the place and had a nice time there. The tasting room is located in the brewery, which is a pre-fab warehouse-looking building in an industrial park. But, the tasting room is cozy, with dim lighting, a nice bar, and the board games on the window sill indicated you were welcome to stay awhile. The brewer’s retriever circulated through the bar also, which made me feel at home. The brewer (whose name I don’t know, but whose face I recognize from being on the brewery’s e-mail list) was on-hand tending bar, which was great, although I didn’t ask him any of my beer geek questions because of the company I was keeping on this particular visit. I had the honey ale, porter, and 2006 scotch ale. Of these, the scotch was head and shoulders above the others. The Spank Me Baby barley wine was still listed on the board, but I didn’t ask for it so I’m not sure it is still in stock (it is very good also). All-in-all, I was happy with my visit to Tyranena, and would recommend stopping by for a beer when between Madison and Milwaukee, or when a significant other drags you toward the Johnson Creek outlet mall.“

“I was here after an event at the brewery. Despite a large crowd, there was plenty of seating available. The selection was not that great as they kept running out of taps, but at a non-busy time there should be about 8 offerings. Services was great considering the number of people.

The variety is nice, covering several different styles. When I was there you were able to purchase 4 or 6-packs. Prices should be pretty competitive with local stores.“

“Don’t believe their web site as to what’s on tap. That’s my biggest dissapointment (my bad for not calling ahead). Only had beers that were bottled on tap (web site listed Wannabe Extra IPA & Vanilla Blackhawk Porter). Wouldn’t have made the 1hr drive out (but again, my bad I guess). I liked the inside tasting room, especially no smoking.“

“This brew pub attached to the brewery is a great place to sample Tyranena’s selections. It’s not large but large enough most nights with the exception of Saturday nights when there is usually entertainment. Those nights it gets crowded but with good reason. Mangement brings in some great bands ranging from blues to bluegrass to zydecco. In the summer, the party spills out into the beer garden where there is plenty of room. They usually have up to 8 beers to try and growlers if there is one you really like. No package beers here but plenty of stores in the area carry their brews. No food but munchies are available. Staff is friendly and knowledgable. Lots of regular patrons. If you are in the area, don’t miss this one.“

“Very nice place. Clean, smoke free seating area inside with a patio outside. Have a window from the patio outside connected with the bar so you don’t have to go inside to grab another beer. Most of their beers are on tap. When you leave, you can take a growler or a 6 pack with you. Pretzels and mustard are offered. A must stop if in the area.“

“I really liked Tyranena. Not only did I finally learn how to pronounce it, but I got a damn good offering of their many beers as well. $8 gets you a sample of everything that they have on tap. In my case, it got me 8 different 4 oz. pours, plus a sample of root beer. In follow-up visits, it’s been big 16-oz. pints (and 16-oz. of a Tyranena beer is such an enjoyable experience.) People were really nice, environment was inviting for families and was smoke-free. The beer garden is equally beautiful and well-landscaped, with a grill available on a first come, first serve basis. Great times. I’m going to stop here every time I’m passing through - takes about 25 minutes from Madison and about 40 from Milwaukee.“

“Can’t figure out why they picked the location. Stuck in an industrial park in that is hard to find. Well, maybe that is a good thing. The tasting room and patio are very nice. The pace is very laid back (so is the service). As my wife said, any place with the owner’s (or brewer’s) dog inside is a good sign. People are great. Beer is unpredictable. Great way to waste away an afternoon.“

“Commenting on Tyranena’s tasting room. Enjoyed my visit, the people there were very nice, and I really appreciated the no-smoking policy (that’s what the beer garden is for). Free snacks provided, and they have some good mustard available for pretzel-dipping. Recommended!“
