60 /100 Swansea Food Centre (Beer Store) 227 HIGH STREET I really like places like this
Convenient if you like some rare ticks
Very close to the train station
Perfect with a cold beer for the train (or Hotel room) and some food
|
78 /100 PILOT HOUSE WHARF If there is one place you have to visit in Swansea
THIS is it
Lovely place by the harbor
Fine patio at the front. The pub is at the upper floor
Even a lift so it is possible for everyone to get up
Nice beer selection. Both on tap and can/bottles
Excellent pizza.
Highly recommended!
|
56 /100 No Sign Bar (Bar) 56 WIND STREET Anonymous on the outside. Cool on the inside
Just like me. Ha ha
Long and narrow pub.
Historic cool place
Absolutely a place to visit
Unfortunately not that good beer selection
Fine patio
|
56 /100 Bank Statement (JDW) (Bar) 57-58 WIND STREET You know what you get when you enter a Spoon
But the beer selection was a bit limited here
Also outdoor seating
Better place next door
|
54 /100 Cross Keys Inn, Swansea (Bar) 12 ST. MARY STREET The best thing with this one is the beer garden
Really nice
Also a bit Spoon ish. But not really any good beer selection
|
52 /100 Hogarths (Bar) 2-3 ST MARY ST After visiting the same pub chain in Newport. I had not much hope
This one was far better than the brother in Newport
Nice good looking interior
Clean toilets
Also a bit Spoon ish
But this one, as the one in Newport, had not really any good beer selection
|
60 /100 Griffin (Bar) 8-10 WIND STREET/CASTLE SQUARE Large spacious pub
Spoon ish
Decent beer selection. You can watch sport here, and eat
Region in Wales #4 |
80 /100 PILOT HOUSE WHARF Cool place overlooking the water near the sea. Fairly big outdoor seating area, and another section upstairs. They have a good selection of their own stuff, then a few other Welsh breweries and some other UK stuff when I visited. Friendly service. They pour thirds here. |
46 /100 Swansea Food Centre (Beer Store) 227 HIGH STREET Handily close to the railway station this is an East European Shop with a reasonable selection of beers from said area. They are a little jumbled about in there with the beers distributed across 3 areas on my visit. Found a few that I lugged back to the camp site. |
64 /100 Queen’s Hotel (Bar) GLOUCESTER PLACE This is multi roomed, traditional pub towards the marina. On a god-awful day in Swansea beer hunting this gave a chink of light. Friendly and comfortable there are local beers on sale in good condition. The food is home cooked and very pleasant. Well worth making a detour for. |
60 /100 Griffin (Bar) 8-10 WIND STREET/CASTLE SQUARE Large, architecturally splendid, ornate pub occupying a corner spot on the appropriately named Wind Street. Televisions placed on every wall, happily showing the 5th day of the 2nd Test against New Zealand but otherwise would be overbearing. Some beer interest with a couple of Welsh beers on. Worth a peek. |
30 /100 Hogarths (Bar) 2-3 ST MARY ST Large pub, opposite the Cross Keys Inn. This chain seems to have dropped its interest in beer now and become a Wetherspoons copy. Lots of screens showing afternoon tv. Little of interest on the beer front. |
40 /100 Cross Keys Inn, Swansea (Bar) 12 ST. MARY STREET This is a large, chain type pub just off the main drag in Swansea. Similar to a Wetherspoons in style. Very limited on its beer range, TT Landlord and 6X on my visit. The garden was pleasant. |
38 /100 Eli Jenkins Ale House (Bar) 24 OXFORD STREET A large chain type pub seemingly modelled on the Wetherspoons chain, I had to check to see I wasn't in one. Tables covered in menus and tat. Little on the beer front, just normal nationals. Not a beer hunting venue. |
42 /100 Potters Wheel (JDW) (Bar) 85-86 THE KINGSWAY Wetherspoons just off the main shopping area in Swansea, huge and sprawling through what feels like an old department store. The usual Wetherspoons set up, little of interest on the beer front unfortunately. |
58 /100 Copper Bar (Bar) 38 CASTLE STREET Bar reasonably close to the Railway Station, made it our last stop before the train dash. It has the post industrial feel of a modern craft bar but with a copper coloured tint. It's rather chaotic in here, the pub dog getting the run of the place and escaping every time a door is left open. All keg beers, the link with Boss long gone, beers from various Welsh Breweries on our visit plus the usual national brands. |
82 /100 PILOT HOUSE WHARF This is a brewery and tap room right on Swansea Marina by the mouth of the River Tawe. It looks a little bleak from the outside with its navy blue colour but inside it is most welcoming. The tap is on the upper floor, up some steel steps however there is a lift for the less able via the brewery entrance. The beer board is confusing as they do not list the brewer so you could end up with a beer from elsewhere without knowing it, best to go by the keg fonts, which may take more time. A good selection of their own beers are available, all keg. Seating overlooking the harbour, there is bench seating by the brewery but it looked a little bleak down there. It is the must visit place in Swansea. |
68 /100 No Sign Bar (Bar) 56 WIND STREET As others have intimated, this appears to be a small pub from the front but it really does go back a long way, it's actually very roomy in there. Opens nice and early on a Saturday, the bar is in the second seating area on the left. Rather like a Wetherspoons it is a mission to get to the toilets upstairs, there is a small seating area to the front, a basement for music events and a garden I think. There is an interesting beer range, particularly on cask. Well worth visiting. |
38 /100 Bank Statement (JDW) (Bar) 57-58 WIND STREET Large Wetherspoons on the way to the Marina area from the railway station. Busy on a Saturday morning pre opening time for everyone else. All the usual Wetherspoons plusses and minuses. Very limited range of cask beers, nothing unusual at all. Not the most exciting venue but we know that before enrering. |
68 /100 No Sign Bar (Bar) 56 WIND STREET Deceptively large pub on the main drinking street in Swansea. Four hand pulled ales available from local breweries (Mumbles, Gower) and some local real ciders too, plus Beavertown Neck Oil on keg. Delicious Sunday lunch. |
46 /100 Swansea Food Centre (Beer Store) 227 HIGH STREET Not really a bottle shop, but a continental supermarket with a pretty large selection of macro lagers from all around Eastern Europe (Baltika from Russia, Ciucas from Romania, loads of Polish stuff). Probably a few ticks available for those who haven't frequented that part of Europe. |
84 /100 PILOT HOUSE WHARF Lovely bar right on the marina with easily the best craft selection in Swansea. 4/5 of their own on tap alongside national (Verdant, Thornbridge, Newbarns) and international (Lervig, Põhjala) brews. Cans and bottles available too but didn't look at these this time. Prices very reasonable (£5/pint for a Verdant 6% IPA) |
26 /100 Hogarths (Bar) 2-3 ST MARY ST Big multi-room Wetherspoon type pub. Apparently this place had some interesting beers once upon a time but it certainly doesn't now. There were some handpumps but none were in use and they were only Pedigree/Doom Bar style anyway. Keg beers all macro lagers, Guinness etc. Not worth the bother. |
94 /100 PILOT HOUSE WHARF Cracking place for a pint. The Flamingo Lingo which they make there is my favourite. If you're after a cheap pint this is not the place for you but if you want a really good selection of very good beer, served by very nice people then look no further |
48 /100 Queen’s Hotel (Bar) GLOUCESTER PLACE A busy traditional pub between the marina & the city centre. A choice of 4 handpumps. The beer was good, the ambiance was decent, the downside was the smell of the place, like it needed a good clean. |
70 /100 PILOT HOUSE WHARF A pity I only had the time for one beer in this modern brewpub above the marina in Swansea. They have 15 taps, a half dozen or so of there own beers. It was pretty quiet been a late Tuesday afternoon so the ambiance could be better. |
66 /100 Swansea Food Centre (Beer Store) 227 HIGH STREET International food type store not far from Swansea Station with a rather large selection of Eastern European and Russian beers in bottles & cans plus even afew ciders, worth looking in and exploring to pick up some country ticks. I got a Bulgarian lager and Latvian cider (not yet on ratebeer) on my visit. |
54 /100 Griffin (Bar) 8-10 WIND STREET/CASTLE SQUARE Majestic interior in this chain type pub in central Swansea with lots of big screens for watching sport, very standard range with three real ales on handpull |
70 /100 Copper Bar (Bar) 38 CASTLE STREET Bar in central Swansea with reclaimed feel, main bar with 5 Boss Brewery beers on tap, also a Boss cider when visited, plus 3 additional guest taps. Lots of seating including outside and downstairs, with tables & chairs, plus some comfy sofas and a further bar downstairs. Worth visiting |
54 /100 Eli Jenkins Ale House (Bar) 24 OXFORD STREET Standard JDW-like chain type pub in central Swansea with afew real ales on hand pull |
58 /100 Potters Wheel (JDW) (Bar) 85-86 THE KINGSWAY Sprawling large JDW just out from the centre of Swansea with long bar and selection of real ales and 2 standard BIB ciders when visited. Usual JDW prices, regular festivals and food. |
62 /100 Queen’s Hotel (Bar) GLOUCESTER PLACE Lively traditonal one roomed ale house not far from center of Swanse towards the marinas, with central bar offering afew real ales |
56 /100 Bank Statement (JDW) (Bar) 57-58 WIND STREET Large JDW in central Swansea with bar at the front and lots of space with numerous rooms inside including a roof terrace. Standard JDW range and prices, with 2 standard BIB ciders when visited, usual JDW festivals and food. |
74 /100 No Sign Bar (Bar) 56 WIND STREET Long narrow historic pub in central Swansea next door to the Bank Statement JDW on Wind Street. Some seating at front then main side bar with selection of taps & real ales and also good range of ciders, then table seating and through to another wine bar & table area towards the back. Pleasant on a Monday evening, worth visiting. |
62 /100 Potters Wheel (JDW) (Bar) 85-86 THE KINGSWAY A rather spacious and long room in different sections, including a library lookalike room to the left. This JDW is located close to a busy roundabout and has got an outdoor seating space in front of the pub. A couple of Welsh beers among the six rotating cask ales. Polite service. Decent traditional breakfast before taking the nearby bus to Mumbles. (Visited with Finn 04.10.2018). |
60 /100 Griffin (Bar) 8-10 WIND STREET/CASTLE SQUARE Large pub. Former bank? Seems like a Spoons. 4 casks. 20 fizzy kegs. 1 cider. |
54 /100 Griffin (Bar) 8-10 WIND STREET/CASTLE SQUARE A monumental, large corner place with one spacious room and high ceiling. Welsh beers among the four cask ales. Popular for sports and late night party time. Very JDW look-alike, but more limited beer menu. Central location facing the Wind Street. Had a Gower beer as a partner to a salad with bacon and chicken, and was satisfied with both the food and cask ale. Polite service. (Visited with Finn 01.10.2018). |
68 /100 Hogarths (Bar) 2-3 ST MARY ST Good-looking modern pub. 6 casks. 30 kegs. Some bottles. |
60 /100 Wig and Pen (Bar) 134-135 ST. HELENS ROAD Good-looking modern pub. 7 casks. 30 kegs. Most of them fizzy. |
62 /100 Bryn-y-Mor Hotel (Bar) 16 BRYNYMOR ROAD Good looking modern pub. 5 casks. 13 fizzy kegs. Ok food. |
62 /100 N.D. John Wines Merchants Ltd (Beer Store) 90 WALTER ROAD Good bottle shop with an ok range of beers. Friendly service. |
52 /100 BrewStone (Bar) 33 UPLANDS CRESCENT 8 kegs. Ab. 15 bottled. House beer. Modern restaurant with some beers. Not worth the detour. |
60 /100 Noah's Yard (Bar) 38 UPLANDS CRESCENT Jazz place. 2 casks. 2 kegs. Some bottles. Cozy! |
62 /100 42 UPLANDS CRESCENT Semi-modern pub. 4 casks. 30 kegs. Only half of them were on during our visit on a Monday afternoon. |
62 /100 Brunswick Arms (Bar) 3 DUKE ST 6 casks. Ab. 10 kegs. A few bottles. A bit worn & torn. Cozy! |
64 /100 Hogarths (Bar) 2-3 ST MARY ST Quite a few interesting Welsh beers both among the many kegs and the six cask ales. Central location just down a narrow alley from the busy Wind Street. A large modern pub divided into different sections and snugs. A long stylish bar with a huge selection of gin. Hogarths gave a comfortable, clean and rather cozy impression. No food. Polite service. Background music from a Zombies and Spencer Davis Group at our stay. (Pub crawl in Swansea with Finn 01.10.2018). |
52 /100 Wig and Pen (Bar) 134-135 ST. HELENS ROAD Comfortable seating inside and outside at this rather spacious, modern pub with a bar counter to the right offering five cask ales on hand-pumps. L-shaped room mostly in stylish, light coloured layout. Polite service. (Pub crawl in Swansea with Finn 01.10.2018). |
52 /100 Westbourne (Bar) 1 BRYNYMOR RD Five cask ales to the line-up of taps at the bar in the middle of this medium-sized, classic-modern, British pub. Street corner location not far from the inner city center. Large food menu. A well kept pub in light colour interiors, and a few seating outdoors. Polite service. (Pub crawl in Swansea with Finn 01.10.2018). |
58 /100 Bryn-y-Mor Hotel (Bar) 16 BRYNYMOR ROAD A rather spacious community pub close to the central part of Swansea. A Greene King pub with five cask ales and a few craft beers among the range of kegs. Food options, my cheese sandwich was well made and tasty. A well kept pub, airy and in light colour interior design. Polite service. (Pub crawl in Swansea with Finn 01.10.2018). |
64 /100 N.D. John Wines Merchants Ltd (Beer Store) 90 WALTER ROAD Mainly a spacious wine store but with a very good selections of canned and bottled beers, including a few shelves marked "local Welsh beers". They even got four different bottled beers for the Norwegian brewery Nøgne Ø. Friendly and attentive service. Good prices. Located in the Uplands area. This was the only wine and beer store we found in Swansea. (My place rating no.1000) (Visited with Finn 01.10.2018). |
