52 /100 147 N 1ST STREET A cozy friendly place. Beer styles are pretty traditional. Service was slow. Did not try the food. Not bad. |
76 /100 846 E MAIN ST Comfortable low key brewpub, hit late happy hour (2 pints for $5) and dinner. Tried 5 of their beers which were ok to good. Good food, they do own BBQ, staff were really nice. |
84 /100 320 E MAIN ST Very pleasant space right on Main Street. The beers I tried were all delicious, as was the wood fired pizza. This place is a gem. |
50 /100 846 E MAIN ST A brewpub stuck in the 90’s, offering a basic selection of recipes, and the few I tried had problems. Decor is brewania bric-a-brac and antlers and license plates and such. Food is nearly all meat-based high fat content (cheese, bacon, avocado, etc. on everything), with a short vegetarian menu that didn’t look appetizing. Very unpolished beer and unclean food, I would not recommend this place to anyone passing through Montrose (2 Rascals seems more promising but they were closed the night I stayed in town). |
64 /100 846 E MAIN ST Stopped in here for lunch. Decor was license plates and coasters nailed to the wall with a few big screen tv’s showing football repeats. Has sort of a sports bar feel. Beers were unremarkable, but the food and service was excellent. |
74 /100 320 E MAIN ST Visited here yesterday for dinner with my wife. Had the Cowboy Pizza and it was awesome, The pizza’s are wood fired in a brick oven. Also sampled two of their beers that they were offering on cask. The ESB and the Irish ale. Neither was exceptional but both went well with the pizza. Recommended stop if you are in Montrose fer sure. |
82 /100 The Liquor Store (Beer Store) 1601 OXBOW DR, STE 300 A large liquor store well staffed with lots of friendly people. Beer selection was much better than average and they have a number of rarities. Prices are competitive. This will likely be my go-to store from now on. |
52 /100 The Pour House (Beer Store) 10 BRISTLECONE DRIVE I left without buying anything. Selection was not satisfactory for a beer geek. Nothing to offer here that you can’t get at any number of grocery stores or common liquor stores. Staff did offer to help but I declined their offer. |
68 /100 Corks Fine Wine & Spirits (Beer Store) 16420 S TOWNSEND AVE Decent liquor store with a fair selection of beers. This is mostly a wine store and craft beers are sort of an afterthought. Prices seemed reasonable. Staff asked me if I needed any help. |
78 /100 320 E MAIN ST Visited here for a late lunch on a Tuesday afternoon in early December ’15. Quaint location in downtown, has more of a malt shop feel to it rather than a brewpub, bright and airy. Have about ten of their own on tap, a few of them available on cask; also had a regional guest tap. The beer was pretty solid, good wide variety of styles. Several sizes available, which I like, The pizza was outstanding, have about fifteen or so different varieties if I recall. That’s pretty much all that is on the menu, but they do it well. Friendly, down home service. Stop by if you find yourself in these parts. |
100 /100 The Liquor Store (Beer Store) 1601 OXBOW DR, STE 300 Excellent staff! Incredible selection! I always get my alcohol from them. I highly recommend them! |
70 /100 The Pour House (Beer Store) 10 BRISTLECONE DRIVE Calm and clean atmosphere. Staff is amazingly friendly, if not necessarily the most knowledgeable. Selection is probably second best in town for beer and includes singles. Prices are good and their beer of club has a pretty good return. Overall, I really enjoy this liquor store, but it is only really good considering the location. |
82 /100 The Liquor Store (Beer Store) 1601 OXBOW DR, STE 300 Nothing really to say about atmosphere other than clear and neat. Service is really good. Selection is phenomenal for this side of the state! I was blown away. Value is about right, maybe a bit cheap. Overall, the selection and price make this the place to go. Very surprised. |
66 /100 147 N 1ST STREET Fairly new taproom with a beautiful space including a back balcony with hops growing. The beers were pretty good. The service while we were there was pretty slow and needed some work. Worth a visit when in Montrose. |
40 /100 846 E MAIN ST Beer is very bland- zero character at all. The Amber has next to no hop bit and same with aroma. The Jazzy Raz is just their blonde (that’s again nothing special at all) with lots of raspberry flavoring.
The decor is very college frat house style! |
80 /100 The Liquor Store (Beer Store) 1601 OXBOW DR, STE 300 Large liquor store with a lot of booze and wine. Also a very nice beer selection and nice staff. |
80 /100 The Liquor Store (Beer Store) 1601 OXBOW DR, STE 300 A great selection with plenty of extras and specials. I am always surprised to see some of the more unusual selections they somehow get their hands on. Easily the BEST bottle shop I’ve been in on the west slope. |
74 /100 846 E MAIN ST A solid start-up (well, only a couple of years old). They are spot-on with all the styles I’ve tried and the pints are affordable and served without attitude. Now that they are in their new, bigger building and an easy walk from downtown, the crowds have picked up Best of luck to Horsefly ! |
74 /100 846 E MAIN ST Update 12/5/11: The brewing crew at Horsefly has really been expanding their horizons lately, much to my delight. Right now they have a really superb American IPA and spiced holiday beer on with a high gravity winter warmer to come. Good things are happening here!
Original Review: A great local place to grab a beer and some better than average pub food. Their beers tend to be solid, great examples of the style but Nigel the brewer shies away from any extreme or experimental beers, sticking with mostly British stand-bys. Everything is crafted with care though and above average, sometimes great for the style. |
94 /100 The Liquor Store (Beer Store) 1601 OXBOW DR, STE 300 I love beer and have been home brewing in Montrose, Co for many years. I used to have to drive up to Denver to get many of the incredible beers that they stock. Liz, the manager was very helpfull and they have been able to get allocations of the most sought after beer on the market. It is a must stop if you love beer and are traveling through Montrose. |
80 /100 The Liquor Store (Beer Store) 1601 OXBOW DR, STE 300 This place has a good selection of local beers! |
86 /100 The Liquor Store (Beer Store) 1601 OXBOW DR, STE 300 i went here on a whim and WOW! there it was the beer that i cant get in montana (due to the stupid alchohol limit law on beer)- dogfish 120 minute IPA! i bought as much as i could with the money i had. then i started noticing the rest of the selection. i was stunned. who would have thought that a liqour store in montrose CO. would have the best beer selection.they have pretty much whatever your want. if you have any reason to go to montrose then make damn sure you stop here. the scotch prices are awesome also. |
86 /100 The Liquor Store (Beer Store) 1601 OXBOW DR, STE 300 I may be biased to this place because I entered it on RB, but while visiting Montrose, CO, I stopped in here frequently because of their large west coast selection (RR Pliny the Elder, Lost Abbey/Port Brewing, Odell, Deschutes, etc). Eventually I met Liz and Jason, two of the managers. They both go beyond knowledgeable, helpful and generous. What’s more they both listened to my preferences and my requests. I understand this place is fairly new, but I think with all the new construction going on, in and around town, it will do just fine. |
