80 /100 991, RUE RICHELIEU Large place right on the river, with a convenient parking area just behind the building. You also enter the building from the rear, which takes you into the stone-lined basement. You pass the brewhouse on the left as you enter and then you see a long bar plus restaurant tables. Ten or so beers on tap plus a cider from Milton. Beers ranged from OK to very good, so it sounds like they've improved over the years. Food is mostly burgers, which were OK, but they also have some local game and other specials. Service is friendly and attentive. Would be improved by tables on the water, but maybe they do that in the summer. |
66 /100 Metro Plus - Riendeau (Beloeil) (Grocery Store) 1030, RUE SAINT-JEAN-BAPTISTE Huge store with easily the best selection of beers, organized by brewery. More bottles that other places too. Grocery choice was above average too. If you only make it to one grocery/beer store, this one would be my choice. |
60 /100 SAQ Classique - Beloeil (#23246) (Beer Store) 1006, RUE SAINT-JEAN-BAPTISTE Small place next to Metro Plus. Beer selection is tiny but did include Mikkeller's Beer Geek Breakfast. Cider selection was better, and there were three ice ciders. Sadly no poire' de glace. Staff were helpful. OK for cider stuff. |
56 /100 IGA - Pépin (Beloeil) (Grocery Store) 825 BOULEVARD YVON-L'HEUREUX N The selection here is fairly large, a separate cooler labeled "Craft Beer" to the left as you walk in, but be careful - a number of macros lurk within the micros. Keep walking and there's an unexciting section of just macros. Prices were fine. |
68 /100 991, RUE RICHELIEU Great location on the Richelieu River, this newer South shore brewpub has a nice terrace facing said river, beautiful heritage building, nice Gastropub with decent menu, terrines, burgers, game, pizza, and pasta. As for the beer, there is lots of room for improvement, the stout being good to a burning unbalanced barleywine. Hope they can improve. Samples are 2$ each. |
74 /100 991, RUE RICHELIEU Went to Brasseurs du Moulin 5 days after the grand opening so my review will probably be updated later on.
Nice big terrace with a nice view on the Richelieu River. The bar itself is on a building basement. Quite rustic place, really nice. At the time we went, they didn’t have wifi yet but were supposed to have it set up soon so since this is in a basement, I suggest you get a place near the outside if you want to have cell signal. There were not many guests at the time we went (lunch on a Wednesday) but I have no doubt the ambiance must be really nice on a busy day. Really like that it’s in a basement.
The service was really fast since there weren’t many guests and they were pretty much over staff, probably because on their first 2 days of existence, they were a bit overwhelmed by the popularity of this new place The waitress knew the available beer on tap but it seemed like it was by heart, more then because she knew beer. But that isn’t t an issue for me.
The selection of beer is currently limited since they don’t have their brew permit yet so until then they offer beers on tap from different micro all around Quebec (and Ontario). When I went they had Frampton Brasse IIPA, Hopfenweisse and Nuit d’Automne, also had Beau’s beers, etc.
The food selection is quite small but when going into that kind of place, I’m not expecting a 5 service food menu. They had some nachos, pizza, burgers, duck sandwich, etc. I had the burger with a Ceasar salad on the side and thought it was good.
Beer price is ok, not the best I’ve seen but we’ll see when they start selling their own beer. I’ll sure update this review at that time.
Overall. This is definitely a nice place with a great view that will sure be a success if they brew tasty beers. Even with a good rotation of micro beers from other brewery that will probably be a good success. Oh... make sure to try the Frampton Brasse Imperial IPA they have on tap. The aroma on tap is insane, way better than in bottle.
