“There’s a surprising dearth of good pubs in Barrow town centre. Ok, maybe they are around but I couldn’t locate them (and Lord knows I tried)! So a JDW is actually very welcome, especially within a few minutes’ walk of the railway station. Normal Wetherspoons selection is complemented by a notably local guest ale twist: two Cumberland ales along with Dent Aviator, were available. It loses some of its price ’specialness’ as the pubs in Cumbria are so bloody cheap anyway.“

“Large and relatively soulless hotel bar close to the railway station. Decent bottle selection, nothing too terribly exciting but lots of internationals worth looking through. About eight cask and various demi-craft keg. You’ll find something to drink here for sure, but it really isn’t a place to linger. Also quite expensive for some bottles.“

“I remember when this imposing street corner hotel and bar was on its last legs thinking what a great place this could be. A few years ago thats what heppened and is now a hotel and a very pleasant modern bar serving a good range of ales and a decent selection of foreign bottled beers including a few US craft bottles. Not stayed in the hotel but the rooms do look good in the photos. Very handy for the station.“

“In a parallel, beer-centric universe what all hotels are like. Mellow, broadsheet-wrestling vibe; bare boards, no dogs, hooligans or kids; marble counter, oversized glasses full of immaculately conditioned beers from Lancaster and beyond; a vault below promising interesting music. Didn’t eat. But did Enjoy the door labelled ’Complaints Dept’ that opens onto the street. Polite and attentive barstaff. Fingers crossed Boro get relegated just so I can come back here next season. Barrow not the irredeemable shithole it’s commonly portrayed as- it’s got this place, other handsome buildings, a somewhat otherwordly sense of mist-enshrouded bleakness and a befuddling, massive bronze of Emlyn Hughes outside for a start. Very highly recommended.“

“One of the Wetherspoon’s opened in the 20th’s century, this one adheres to the traditional look and is a comfortable place to drink among the oak tables and paneling. it can be a quiet place in the daytime to eat or drink and there are two rows of ale pumps with rotating crafts to enjoy.“

“Opened Nov 06. Very pro-craft beer establishment. Shared ownership with the Lancaster Brewery whose beers are always on.“
