“A community owned pub which also incorporates a post office, café and shop (not a grocer’s - more arty and crafty things). Three hundred local people chipped in to buy it three years ago and it’s run as a social enterprise. We visited on our hop on hop off bus tour of the Peak District. The nearest stop if you’re travelling on a First South Yorkshire ticket is Bamford station, just under a mile away - uphill from there to the pub and on to Ladybower and the Snake Pass beyond, downhill on the way back - but there’s another bus company that stops just outside. We made the trek as we’d seen that there was a beer festival on but were disappointed to find this just meant they had five taps as usual with a rotating range of local beers and ciders over three or four days. Having bought festival cards (four pints for £10), I was wondering how we were going to spin things out for a couple of hours until the next bus but actually it turned out very well. The locals were really friendly, welcoming and justifiably proud of their community hub. They even brought us a plate piled high with barbequed chicken wings to keep us going. So, all in all, I’d recommend it highly and encourage people to go there, although if you’re going for their “beer festival” it’d be wise not to expect a tick fest. (Visited 19 May 2017).“
