“Been here a few times over the years, last couple of times was a pretty impressive selection over tap and cask, lots of South London breweries like Mondo/Drop Project/Brick plus a few national good names like Siren. Cask was in good condition last visit. Pretty nice venue, staff good (although can get really busy at weekends) overall worth a stop.“

“After visiting the better Brixton venues I have popped in here a couple of times over the last few years before getting the 109 bus back home to Streatham. Typical Spoons really, maybe a bit rougher round the edges, still score the odd cask tick every now and then.“

“Visited early afternoon Saturday 5th August 2022 - already well acquainted with their Penge bar/bottleshop heard this place had just opened so combined a visit here with the close by Friendship Adventure brewery tap close to Loughborough Junction. Location is on a small side alley which you can approach from 2 different roads (gates are locked either side before open) on entering there is seating and beer fridges to the left and a bar straight ahead on the right with 10 taps of really good craft choices (similar brewers to the Penge place across both tap/bottle) friendly staff and decent prices and they do thirds. Took the steps up to the higher level and there is loads of bench seating and a big projector screen at the end. All in all another good edition to the Craft Metropolis world, and will definitely return with its convenient access to Loughborough Junction. Recommended.“

“Visited early afternoon Saturday 5th August 2022 - nice under the arches brewery location close to Loughborough Junction (and also just round the corner to the great new Craft Metropolis bar/bottleshop) nice brewery taproom under the arches with a fair bit of bench seating and a bar serving around 10 of their beers. I had tried one of their beers elsewhere a while back and was not great, but the two newer IPAs we had were pretty decent. Staff very friendly and free popcorn, and water bottle delivered to table without asking on that hot day. Overall not going to be blown away here but worth combining a stop here with Craft Metropolis.“

“Cosy and spacious taproom not far from Loughborough Junction station. Bar is on your right as you come in with some of the tanks on your left. They offer 7 of their own beers plus a guest (tonight it's Cloudwater). It'd be a brilliant place except for the fact that the beer needs work. There are some good ideas here but in their current state not all the beers are enjoyable. Now I believe in allowing breweries to adapt and improve. Not all of the best UK breweries started out knocking them out of the park. But for now you may want to stick to the guest beer or manage expectations.“

72 /100 ARCH 547, BRIXTON STATION ROAD
“Decent little archway taproom in Brixton. Single room with seating for about 35 with a bar in the back dispensing 8 taps. It is macro of course, and it's not got a lot on tap other than their core beers, so understandably wont be everyone's destination. However there are plenty of Brixton cans for the ticker, and it's got a pleasant if quiet atmosphere. And the beer is decent enough.“

“Pleasant little pub close to Tulse Hill Estate. It's a little bit rustic with wooden flooring and tastefully mismatched chairs. Loud but listenable soul and light jazz piped music. Service is friendly, they were short-staffed on the day but coped admirably. Beer list unfortunately is pretty dull, with about a half dozen ex-craft taps (Brixton and Beavertown) among the loud and proud macro. A comfortable half hour spent here but the beer list let's it down. Some proper local craft would make this place worth checking out, as it is it falls under the 'only if passing by' category.“

“The Effra Social is a fairly large pub on the Effra Road (unsurprisingly) just before it becomes Tulse Hill. I came in early on a Sunday and only the downstairs bar was serving. It's an open-plan room with a small bar to the right and a stage up front (although in the absence of live music, the stage houses more seating). Service is incredibly friendly, making you feel like it's your local if even for a short time. Piped Music is loud but it features some 90s tunes that I dig so I'm okay with that. The beer, while not anything too exceptional, is certainly solid. There are a couple of cask ales and about 6 keg that could be called craft or faux-craft. Brixton, Gosnell's Mead, By the Horns, Big Hug and Siren are represented. A few cans as well from Siren and Hammerton. Pretty much all sessionable. Free WiFi. Worth checking out.“

“Privileged to have this as my local bottle shop. Fantastic, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Amazing variety of tap and bottled/canned beers. My wife and I have very different tastes (sours, Gose and ciders vs IPAs, lagers and table beers) and can always find something new and different for both our tastes. Lovely little beer garden in the back too. Fun stash, good rewards system and a genuine pleasure to shop here. Don’t miss out!“

“This would have been my second visit here but the first time I came it was so busy that we went to the Spoons prior to a gig. Did not take to this place. Two cooler than thou bar staff stood giggling with each other. The beers I ordered were off and the above bar menu was difficult to read in the gloom. If passing would return to see of there are any ticks but the ooptions just seemed limited compared to other CBCos.“

“What to add? Well, a small shop unit with fridges down two sides and some shelves for stouts/porters. Also some organic wines and such like. Wide range of London, UK and World beers. Only 6 taps but it was a Bruery takeover. Limited myself to 4 as it the first stop on a mini-crawl prior to a gig and they had various Imperials on. Friendly knowledgeable guy running the place. Also openly trusting as he left me and the other customer alone when he nipped to post something. Was unsurprisingly quiet due to the whole Covid-19 situation but if it gets busy the couple of tables down the middle and bar seating around the windows will get rammed. A great place. Just don't look at the prices.“

“A very small store with shelves on one side, coolers on the other (with pretty much the same beer), and a large island in the center where you can sit to try one of the six beers in tap. Eclectic selection of beers with lots of local and UK but also Euro and US. A bit pricey. Definitely worth a visit.“

“Finally visited 29th June on what was at that point the hottest day of the year, so the best thing about this place is being in there under the railway arches to take a break from the sun. Usual size setup as other under the arch breweries throughout London, lots of picnic benches, only about half full on our visit. Staff were friendly enough but beers were served too cold (maybe good on this visit but hopefully not the usual case) Beers were pretty basic generally, but as a place although not being by any means essential - its easy to build this into a Brixton visit being just down the road from Craft Beer Co and not far from the other must visit venues.“

“Visited here many times while on trips back to London and always enjoy seeing what they have to offer. This is also an untapped “verified” venue which is well maintained so easy to check your ticks before arriving. It’s a small place just tucked away under a railway arch. Not allot of space to sit inside, on last visit 06/2019 a new small seating area to the right as you walk in, and a few stalls here and there, but in more clement weather benches are available outside. The main beer board has mostly their own brews across the 14 taps available, rest made up with some interesting guest brews. They still do their ticker friendly 5 x 100ml pours for £6 which on each of my last 4 visits have always yielded 5 new ticks. They have a couple of fridges with both their own and guest beers, and it’s the same price to drink in or take away which is cool. Staff are friendly and prices good. Lots of home brew equipment scattered around and they were running a brewery tour upstairs on our last visit. Overall really like this place and now visiting on each trip back every 3 or 4 months when visiting the family.“

“Have visited pretty often now, especially since the refurb in late 2017 and overall like this place which is situated on a street corner close to rail/bus/tube connections so is an easy place to reach for those not familiar with the area. A pretty small main bar on ground floor level with some high tables and stool’s and more seating can be found in the nice upstairs seating area or outside. Lots of cask/keg to choose from as well as bottles/cans. I normally prioritise cask for my visits as have always found them to be in good nick, and often get some pretty rare ticks like on our last visit. Staff are friendly, and ambience on our visits (mostly weekend afternoons) has been fine. Overall a good stop. Recommended.“

“Visited numerous times now, both weekdays and weekends and really like this place. It may seem a little bit of a trek if you are coming here first straight from regional transport links but it is still easy to build into the best of what Brixton offers not being far from Brewdog etc. Situated on a street corner it’s a pretty decent sized place with cans and bottles both across shelves on the left and in the many fridges on the right hand side.as you enter. They also have 6 taps of which you can obtain thirds and we have done so on each visit as the selection always seems to be the newest available releases and definitely turns over fast when checked against their untappd verified venue updates. Seating is available both inside and out, and we made use of the nice back garden area with benches (thankfully with some covering in the then 34c heat) Tried a few beers on tap and then took some interesting cans/bottles home. Definitely one of the premier bottleshops in South London and well worth a visit.“

74 /100 89 EFFRA ROAD
“As someone hailing from South London and fondly remembering the late and great Catford Bridge Tavern and Ravensbourne Arms, its good to see Antic is still going strong and their portfolio of pubs is growing. The Effra is another great example of what Antic does best, e.g buy an unloved/disused/abandoned old building, bring it back to life as a pub but restore it with references to its past/history in the local area. The Effra social on the Effra Road is easily accessible and more or less equidistant from Herne Hill / Brixton train stations. It is a grand old building that used to function as the areas local conservative club from the late 1800’s to more recent times until its Closure. Upon entering there is still allot of original features, with pictures/books/maps and quirky reference to its conservative past with Churchill pics everywhere as well. On the right is what would be a sitting room with its own bar, so now a separate functioning bar, then from behind the bar it stretches into the back of the building and into a function room with old dance floor where the main bar and restaurant is. There is also garden seating in both the back and front. Staff were friendly approachable and was pretty quiet on our visit on a Saturday afternoon. Beer wise there is 5 cask and around 12 keg spread out, mostly South London based breweries on at the time like Mondo/Gipsy Hill/Brixton etc plus some further away guest beers. Overall, I would say beer selection was nothing amazing to go out of you way for but purely from a “place” perspective this is pretty unique and worth a visit for sure.“

“Online order. Huge selection, well over 400 beers to choose from, mostly UK but a pretty decent selection of international stuff too, particularly US. I did notice a couple of breweries beers priced around £1 (or more) dearer than other shops which was odd, but in general the prices were fair. Service was excellent, I ordered on a Sunday afternoon and was given a tracking number for my delivery in under an hour! Delivery was free for orders over £70. Beers all arrived safely, not in the strongest of boxes but plenty of packing peanuts keeping them all padded in tightly. Overall I was pretty pleased with this place and would certainly recommend it, and would definitely pop into the shop if in the area. Seems to be one of the best in London.“

“Excellent Japanese restaurant in the heart of Brixton. Small and crowded, it still maintains a friendly and cosy vibe. The beer list is limited, however there is a specially brewed IPA from Pressure Drop that you can try with your food. There are a few sakes available but as many of them are only available by the bottle you're unlikely to tick that many in one go. Not a bad place to try the traditional shochu: they even have a tasting board. Verdict: go for the food, and the booze is a bonus.“

“Visited a number of times on Thursday and Friday afternoons around their 4pm opening since July 2017 A small bar and bottle shop attached to a working brewery under a railway arch I'm Brixton just a few minutes walk from the tube station and across the main road. Up to 14 beers on tap with usually 70% from their own brewery and/or roaring four and a few guests ... often more small scale London nano breweries. Good range of styles but usually a lot of hoppy offerings and good for a DIPA or two! Beer quality ranges but most offerings are of a decent standard ... lots of small batch / experimental one offs. Combine this with a tasting tray of 5 x 100ml for £6 and this becomes a tickers paradise especially if youre working on your own ! Allied to the fairly extensive tap range he bottle shop, standard shelved products and a couple of fridges , offers a good range of beers at reasonable prices from their own stable, London locals, Europe and beyond. Service is super friendly and you can sip your beers from one of the high stools or browse the bottle range. The Lab would probably seat 8 or so people at a squeeze to give you an idea of size. Overall a great ticker friendly venue and we'll worth a spin to the end of the Victoria line which can now be combined with a number of other venues.“

“An excellent bottle shop, with the option of drinking beers on site (cans and bottles, or four keg taps, which are also for growler fills). The selection is great, and half the shop is given over to fridges. Lots of UK and London in particular. Pretty decent prices on these beers. There's also good range of imports, and these are more, and sometimes much more, expensive. They have some spirits as well. Friendly staff. Definitely a must-visit if you're in the Brixton area.“

“Another day, another railway arch brewpub (not that I'm complaining). It's a bit cramped inside but the October weather was kind today, so I sat outside. They have a good selection of beers on tap: 6 of their own and 8 from London and farther afield. Familiar names such as Partizan, Deya, Anspach & Hobday. The bottled selection is decent, and the prices are reasonable. Tasting flights (5 beers for £6) are available, and they run brewing workshops which sound like a fun day out.“

“Situated a short walk outside of the Brixton market area, this is a lovely little bottle shop. I say little. While it is small, it's chock full of interesting and exciting beers. They focus on Britain, and London specifically; however there's also considerable choice from the US (e.g. Pizza Port and Stillwater), Scandinavia, Australia/NZ and a few other places such as the Garden from Croatia. Four taps to try by the glass or the growler, and the packaged beers have a £1 or £2 corkage charge (depending on size). They don't seem to carry 'traditional' outfits from the UK or Germany, but they do what they do extremely well.“

“For beer geeks this is probably the best bottle shop in London right now. They clearly work extremely hard to bring in stuff that you will struggle to find anywhere else and have an awesome range. “Visited on 15 April 2017, for the first time since their opening day. It's a fairly basic affair with a couple of tables inside and the bar to the left. If standing outside, you have to resort to loitering around, and resting your beer on, the wheelie bins or crossing the road to the sunny (if you’re lucky) side of the street and standing around there. The Brixton beer range is fairly static, and they’re all available in bottles, so this is a missable stop if you’re already familiar with their beers. We probably wouldn’t have lingered, except for the fortunate happenstance they had a new beer on tap. Unfortunately, the draught beers were served in plastic cups. On the plus side, they were a touch more rigid than many of that ilk. Service was friendly. Worth a look if you’re in the area, or are new to Brixton beers and want to pick them all up in one fell swoop. Otherwise, not worth a special trip.“
