“Chilled-out, scruffy, old-school boozer. Great tap lineup, hands down. Seating out back outside. What can I say, they have an awesome lineup and reasonable prices. Love it.“

“Typical pub - youngish crowd and busy. Cask beers and ciders though nothing notable when I was there. Maybe worth dropping in, if in the area, but would not make a special trip. Not getting the vibe... Highly overrated“

“Nice pub with a good selection of cask beers and ciders, good ambiance (there was a woman playing the piano when I visited, also they played vinyls) and really good prices. The only downside was one waiter that was rude.“

“A beer institution. You can say that ’times haves moved on’ and the Southampton Arms’ focus on cask is a trifle outdated, and in some respects you may have a point. But their signature siren call of ’Ale Cider Meat’ is deliciously accurate if you discount the 2 keg taps and the veggie Scotch Eggs. The atmosphere is brilliant, but it’s one of those narrow pubs where you can’t move if it’s crowded. I counted 18 handpulls: 11 beers and 7 ciders. They seem to be fond of certain Brewers here, with Dark Star and Howling Hops as standouts. Mostly sessionable and all delicious. I noticed that many of the other punters were drinking cider; I’m no expert on the availability of cider in London (and coming from the shires it isn’t in short supply), but perhaps the cider choice/condition is a big draw.“

“Mix of modern and traditional with a welcoming bar area surrounded by tables for lunch / diner .. if you are fancy only for beers go the Southampton arms just few hundreds yards down the road .. but if you want to have a good beer with special food this is the right place for you .. British/ Mediterranean kitchen maybe a bit expensive but always good !! After a good lunch you can recover yourself at hamstead Heath which is really close ..“

“A few minutes walk north-west of the Southampton Arms just before Highgate Road meets Hampstead Heath’s eastern extremities, this is a traditional London corner pub on the main road in a mostly residential area. There’s a few modern touches inside and the large tables by the window seem to suit diners best, although the impression I got was they were certainly looking for people who want to east and drink here rather than just the latter, however if the weather is good the picnic tables that line the wall on the outside of its large glass windows are a more than convivial place to people and traffic watch whilst you sup. Beer drinkers are serviced well enough in craft and keg on the bar along the inner wall, although I was a little disappointed not to find anything new for myself here.“

“An easy walk east of Gospel Oak railway station, its a few doors away from the road junction you’ll come, on Highgate Road next to a railway bridge. It has a very small front, and the pub itself never gets wider than this - as such inside you have a long thin bar against one inner wall, with small chair and tables lining the one opposite and at its front. There is an atmospheric urban courtyard area at the back which certainly helps increase capacity. Despite the lack of space there’s no lack of cask ales, with a very long row of regular and special ales from a wide range of microbreweries. It’s arguably the best place for cask choices in the area. A few keg options can be found on the bar as well. Traditional in style, with a welcome ambiance from its worn fixtures and fittings.“

“Uno dei pub che piu mi è piaciuto a londra con una folla molto eterogenea , il bello di questo posto è che per venire qui bisogna uscire dai soliti giri turistici, bella selezione di classiche ales e cidri senza troppi fronzoli e senza troppi stili rappresentati , qui però si respira l’aria da pub genuino .. Cibo più che altro per placare la fame con pork pies e simili, servizio veloce e piu gentile che in altri posti“

“Fairly small and long old school bar with a run down wooden feel. It’s fairly popular and lively with a great selection of casks featuring local and other UK breweries. Worth going there early as it gets pretty busy later in the evenings.“

“Kind of a "rustic" pub, with a used feel, propably not for everyones taste, but I really liked it. There’s also a nice courtyard in the back. Unfortunately located quite far-off (near Hampstead Heath), but definitely worth the trip.

The lowest prices I’ve experienced in a London craft beer bar! Tap list isn’t the most extensive, but they had some really interesting stuff, for example an extended selection from Howling Hops. Maybe the only downisde is that they serve all beers in dimpled mugs, but then this fits very well into the down-to-earth atmosphere of this place.

Overall an authentic experience and very good, local beer, definitely recommended.“

“Visited the 14th September 2015 - Really nice and pleasant place. Good music and amazing atmosphere and ambiance. Very nice staff. Selection is mainly on cask with just only two taps, all beers are British. And prices are really smart for London. I recommend extremely to have a stop there, because this is the way a modern pub must be in Great Britain. Good symbiosis between modern and tradition! If the weather is nice enjoy the patio, it’s amazing! Notes: only cash accepted !“

“Finalmente qui ! Gran bel posto fuori dalle zone turistiche del centro ma facile da raggiungere con tube, piccolo e stretto nella zona bancone propone un 6/7 real ales ,6/7 cidri tutti a pompa e 2 spine un po più commerciali . Bello l’ambiente ed il servizio rapido ma attento , c’è una zona che funge da beer garden per i fumatori . Non ho provato il cibo che sono solo snack cmq .“

“A long one room pub, quirky and a bit dingy looking but I get the feeling this is part of the charm of this establishment. An eclectic range of ales, mostly from small micros I had never heard of, my two pints of beer from somewhere in Hackney were pretty damn good and keenly priced at well under four quid. Some eccentric characters were present and the old vinyl records being played do give this boozer a very distinctive atmosphere. Different, but worth it.“

“Nice old pub a few minutes walk from Gospel Oak station. One long room all decked out in wood with a covered smoking area out the back it’s quite a small place and is often packed. Quite often the ivories are tinkled which loses more space. Decent beer range. Well kept. Prices not too bad either. It’s a nice place.“

“Pretty good spot. Definitely an upscale pub - to be expected given the area. Decent range of beers spread across five casks, a few kegs and about 10 bottles. A few things on cask I’ve not come across before, which was fun. The kegs had some more macro-style stuff, plus Five Points and another London brewery I forget. Some decent craft options in bottle: Tiny Rebel, Wild Beer Co, a few others. Premium pricing. Friendly service from very hip, attractive servers. Nice decor and ambiance - so long as you don’t mind a few mounted bull heads. Didn’t have any prepared food (only peanuts) so can’t comment on that front. Definitely a worthwhile stop if you’re in the area but not a pub to seek out specifically.“

“my favourite place in london .. great selection of ales and cider .. simple food but very good (especially the meat) piano play on tuesday .. REVISITED 3 times at the end of Nov and I can confirm all my previous feelings .. The atmosphere here is great and remind me to the wenlock arms of 10 years ago .. Smaller selection but more "soul" than any other craft beer pub in town !!!!“

“AMAZING little pub. Great ambiance and decor. Very warm and cozy. The beer list is not huge, and unfortunately mostly cask ales, but a very decent one. I just thing that craft beers fit better into kegs and not casks. Besides that, I think its one of the best pubs I have ever been.“

“Great little bar in in North London, interior is old school pub, cleaned up and stopped down. Staff and especially the manager is is really friendly knowledgable guy. Beer selection is mostly cask so for someone who isn’t into casks (cue for gasps from english ratebeerians) might leave a bit to be desired. But their selection nevertheless is VERY good and well kept. MUST VISIT PUB in london. Blows all the other "craft beer pubs" out of the water.“

“I’ve now been here three times, so time for a rating. Ever changing selection of cask ales and cider. Busy pub and seating is sparse. This pushes people into the patio area, which is very smokey. Open fire in the winter which is always a good thing but it can be a bit intense in such a small venue. Friendly service and beer was in decent condition. A good one for a local.“

“Traditional pub, pretty simple and quite in the afternoon. Music when I was there was the blues and made it just that much better.Small bar, decent staff and a good well priced selection of beer and cider. Food is the basic English pub fare, but I didn’t eat.“

“Didn’t start well, when the bar man tells you that the beers are too expensive and then goes on to recommend better establishments nearby, you know it’s not a proper craft bar. But it’s a pleasant hybrid pub/restaurant, tastefully decorated with vintage photos, maps and taxidermy.“

“My favorite boozer in London bar none. Once you step through the door it’s like you’ve entered a slightly parallel universe somewhere around the period between the two wars. So the selection isn’t going to beat the likes of Craft Beer Co but the atmosphere more than makes up for it. If you like cask beer you aren’t going to care anyway. As most people have said it does get very packed so try to time your visit earlier in the day if you can. You won’t regret it.“

“One of London’s best pubs, possibly no.1. Always a remarkable selection of real ales and ciders. The roast pork baps are to die for. A very mixed clientele locals and visitors of all ages. Good friendly bar staff who also have to change the vinyl records (of all styles) every 20 mins or so even when it’s busy in the evenings. No keg (except for Camden Helles and Ink) or foreign beers I’m afraid. I love the sign at the bar saying all produce sold is from small independent producers - which sums this venue up.“

“A decorative pub from outside. Inside more like a restaurant with a small bar to the left of the kitchen. However I was impressed at the beer selection - available in bottle/keg/cask. And not just boring big-boy brands but well chosen ones including local and good Belgian ones too. And amazingly the quality of both I had from cask was top-notch, particularly their house beer made by East London Brewing, called So Solid Brew 5.5%, fantastic Galaxy hopped IPA. The food looked and smelt delicious, though not cheap! ***Please note the proximity map is totally wrong! Despite the postcode being correct! It is actually other side of the Southampton Arms, on the corner of Highgate Rd and Woodsome Rd***“

“Very cosy but small old school Pub. But visiting early afternoon we had the pub more or less at our own. Excellent selection of casks, including Dark Star, Fyne, etc. 2 kegs aswell, Camden and Howling hops. Good conditions of the beers.Very freindly and knowable service. Had a pork roast sandwich for lunch that was really good. Will love to go again. Good value for money“

“Cracking pub - only issue being that it’s often rammed. The bar kind of backs on to the seating and it’s often a real squeeze. However, if you visit at a slightly less busy time then it’s 10/10 - awesome selection of real ale and real cider, nice sausage rolls and meat pies, decent music, nice staff and decent prices.“

“Visited several times, and I just love this place :-) For the beers, the ciders, the cosy atmosphere, the friendly staff and off course for the lovely old, black dog that from times to times are around the pub, and know where the sausages are :-) Always a huge range of beers, mostly in good condtion, and a great selection of traditionel ciders, from smaller cider producers, as well. Can at times be a bit crowded, but then you can use the small beergarden in the back. They don´t do food, but they have some lovely bar snacks thats worth a try :-) For sure a pub worth visiting...“

“We visited here yesterday Sunday 31st March 2013, just me and Loz. The bus 214 we caught from nearish Old Fountain stopped right outside the pub (bargain!) This is a lovely little pub, a real treat, wonderfully simple decor, all old wood, old wooden tables and bench seating along with wooden chairs, a really lovely looking charming old place. The beer selection was mostly localish micros’ I had a Notting Hill ruby red to start with and Loz had a Stiff Upper Lip, we then both had a Buxton Jaw (something) before I finished with a lovely Wilkins cider, Loz had another Buxton, but would probably have had a Dark Star Six Hop had I have realised it was just going on after I’d already ordered. This is a very friendly place, the sort of pub where you share a table with others. Food choice was very simple but looked good, I saw some very decent looking Pork Pie amongst the offerings. We sat near the front window but getting a seat was tricky in here and we were lucky. I really liked this place and warmed to its charms the longer we stayed, ok so there are better beer choices about I don’t doubt, but this seems to get everything right and ticked all of the boxes for me.“

“Great local boozer 7 or 8 minutes walk from Kentish Town (Northern) or 3 minutes from Gospel Oak (LOROL). Largeish single roomed boozer from around the turn of the last century, joanna in the corner, bar carries around 10 to a dozen cask lines and 5 or 6 keg taps which also carry decent offerings. Plenty of emphasis on local London micros but I’ve also hit on things like a Tempest offering on tap. Great hot pork rolls available! Clientele is largely locals, plus the odd beer geek as it’s well worth a visit here. Saw Trigger (Roger Lloyd Pack) on my last visit here if you like to spot famous folks. He ordered two halfs - wonder if he was rating !!! Great place, gets busy fairly early so if you want a table on a Friday best get there before 5ish.“

“Straight out of Dickens or Potter, the hellishly crowded Southampton, condensation dripping off the ceiling into your pint. Old bird banging the joanna dementedly in the corner. Standing room only, wedged contortedly beneath the coat hooks trying vainly to extricate your phone from your pocket, buffeted relentlessly by the toilet-going public. No respite or room in the backyard to move your elbows to rate, so forget about it and get the Dark Stars in. Visited November 2012 before Bobby Womack’s gig at HMV Forum. The most atmospheric London pub I’ve visited to date, with about the most impressive cask range.“

“If only this was my neighborhood pub back in Norway! Dream on... I have to stick to crap beer or craft beer at horrifying prices. The only problem was that the pub was so packed that I could barely squeeze in. I hardly managed to drink my beers and at the same time relax and enjoy my stay. But, I loved this place. If there is a next time, I will visit earlier in the daytime. (Visited February 16th 2013)“

“The looks are horrible: old and dirty. But they serve loads of (rare) local brews, all on cask. No bottles. No plastic payment, just cash. Very good prices: all beers are priced the same. Atmosphere was very friendly, with lots of locals and the occasional tourist (like me :P). Just see through the crappy looks and you’ll see easily one of the best bars around!“
